Registration Comment

Once again, WBBM 780 plays a piece of audio tape, then doesn't post it anywhere were we can link it or dissect it. We're going from memory here, but J-Fled made another dumb comment about how the gun registry is necessary so "we know where the guns are."

Huh?

Those aren't the guns that are causing all the problems you twit. Shortshanks and J-fled are making law abiding citizens jump through hoops and come up with hundreds or dollars for a Right all citizens should be free to exercise, yet we'll guarantee tens of thousands of gang bangers won't be rushing in to register weapons.

Who's keeping track of those weapons J-Fled?

If you're interested in registering a weapon so Daley can come confiscate it at a later date, here's a link from Channel 7 with .pdf files for people to sign away their Rights "to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures" if you're so inclined. But if you aren't keen on inviting the government into your home or onto your property...

UPDATE: The Sun Times has the quote WBBM doesn't:
  • "We want to know who has weapons so that first responders can be aware of that information before they enter a home," said Police Supt. Jody Weis at a news conference.
Any officer who goes into a home not thinking there might be a gun inside is forgetting one basic tenet of policing - THERE IS ALWAYS A GUN THERE. AND YOU BROUGHT IT.

We don't know about you, but we're a bit insulted that J-Fled and Shortshanks keep using the argument, "Won't someone think of the first responders!" the way Helen Lovejoy screams, "Won't someone think of the children!" in The Simpsons. It's a tired and hackneyed phrase liberals use when they want to shut down intelligent debate.

I was hoping you were going to do a post on another J-Fled dumb comment. I heard him say on the news, "we will try to make gun registration easier so we know who has the guns and then first responders will know when they respond to a call at a residence." First, again J-fled we always assume there is a gun at every call. We prepare for the worst, always. You wouldn't know because you are not a police officer. Second, if he or anyone thinks that dispatch will have information on who has the guns and actually give that info. to us by the time we get to the job, then I will tell you the Cubs will win the World Series this year. Third, who give a fuck what BS city law Daley made up, the courts will never enforce them and nothing will happen. UUW State law is the only one they "occassionally" enforce.

J-FLED you are too funny (and ridiculous)! A "gun registry"? How about two registers: One for the law abiding citizens and one for the gang bangers! That's not hilarious: It's farcicle & laughable!!

The new ordinance also requires a permit for the individual, doesn't it? At $100 per person? Do you need a permit for each type of firearm (rifle, shotgun, pistola)?
I think the permit is supposed to certify the individual's proficiency with the firearm.

Of course, Daley's objective here is making firearm ownership financially prohibitive. This is NOT a law created for revenue.

I agree that the registration system is a violation of our right to privacy.

I would think that when a 'first' responder is sent to a home where guns are lawfully registered they'll still be vigilant but might be less concerned knowing that law-abiding citizens reside therein.

There is some misinformation (surprise) in the comments. It is $15/gun one-time registration fee. It isn't clear that there are any more fees for the gun. The 'permit' is renewed every 3 years, probably at $100 again. Not sure yet if re-training is required on renewal. Wouldn't surprise me.

7/13/2010 12:27:00 AM

You're kidding, right? If they read the Second Amendment like they read the others, gun ownership would be mandatory. As it is, this is their take on the Heller decision:

Heller Decision and the Second Amendment
So, we've been getting a lot of comments about the ACLU's stance on the Second Amendment. For those of you who didn't catch our response in the blog comments, here it is again:

The ACLU interprets the Second Amendment as a collective right. Therefore, we disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision in D.C. v. Heller. While the decision is a significant and historic reinterpretation of the right to keep and bear arms, the decision leaves many important questions unanswered that will have to be resolved in future litigation, including what regulations are permissible, and which weapons are embraced by the Second Amendment right that the Court has now recognized.
As always, we welcome your comments.

http://www.aclu.org/2008/07/01/heller-decision-and-the-second-amendment

Isn't a good thing that the Supreme Court is the arbiter of what the Constitution means instead of the ACLU?

Doesn't this sound like a violation of the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment? Do we have a right to be secure in our homes or not? Does anyone see the potential for crimes being committed to the homes of registered gun owners if, God forbid, these databases were compromised by non police civilians who are crooked but not on the radar? 1:08 PM (DALEY'S LASER BAN)

What's his problem with lasers? After mastering the iron sights, zeroed-in lasers should actually be encouraged , not banned.

What possible pretext will Shortshanks offer for such nonsense? He's just trying to create every conceivable obstacle to gun ownership by eligible law-abiding citizens.

Hey ACLU, there is no such thing as "Collective Rights". All Rights are INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS not just the one's you happen to like.

God Bless Officer Soderberg and his family and Thank God they caught the animal who did this.

When will they catch the animal that murdered Officer Jose Vasquez?

How can a Chicago Police Officer's murder go unsolved and with nothing ever mentioned about it?

I always thought that an officer's murder was the top line priority. Jose has been murdered for over three years and yet, nothing?

And don't forget Detective Robert Soto in '08...

The right to keep and bear arms is not about hunting and self-defense. It's about keeping the government at bay. That's what the Founders were talking about. I'm not advocating taking arms against these lousy elected shits that represent us, but they are the ones that are kept in line by an armed citizenry. It helps to keep them in line, not doing any of the outrageous nonsense that they have been doing for years now.

The other day a reporter on Fox said the registered gun can never leave the home, so if you want to practice with it you must rent one at the range. The city is suggesting that you rent a gun of the same exact type. I suppose next we can only have 1 bullet that must remain in your shirt pocket. This ordinance is going to make alot of lawyers rich on the taxpayers dime. bs
