20 Shot Last Night

  • A 17-year-old boy was killed and a 20-year-old man was wounded during a shooting late Friday in the Englewood neighborhood, police said.

    [...]

At least 18 others have been wounded in shootings since Friday night at 9:45 p.m.
And you know where no one got shot this year? Billiken:
  • The sunshine and humidity made for a muggy step-off at the annual Bud Billiken Parade on Saturday morning, but most didn't seem to mind.
This may have been the quietest parade that we can remember in decades.

The Billiken parade has reached an almost sacred status. It is so revere that no one wants to do any shooting during the event.

Good to hear nothing erupted at the Bud Billiken Day parade.

As for Chicago in general, something has to change - dramatically.

You said 20 were shot (so far). WHO is keeping track of all the Medical bills?

I remember reading on SCC that the "average" treatment for a gunshot wound at the hospital is $250,000. That would mean so far, it has cost somebody (us) about $5,000,000 just for HALF of this weekend so far.

WTF?? THAT is real money. Depending on how many are shot, that is $5,000,0000 to $10,000,000 a week. - That could be anywhere from a quarter to a Half Billion Dollars a year!!!!

No one is talking about this. #BlacklivesMatter? What about #TaxpayersMoneyMatters ??

WHO is picking up the BILL???? Pookie, the gangbanger isn't. And neither is his Mom.

I was there 2 hours before it began and an hour after it ended (CFD). Everyone was very nice. There were a few fights but nothing major.

Worked the parade, it was for the most part quite. We had a good police presence and were proactive, stopped shit before it got out of hand. The fact that they curtailed the bullshit events that go on in the park helped a lot, no rappers or D.J.'s made for a quite day. I can't tell you how many people came up to us and thanked us for what we do, a lot of positive feedback from the community. A lot of people told us that all the bullshit police hating is exactly that bullshit, they said if it wasn't for police cities would burn. It's funny the only one's that seem to hate the police are the white liberals, media and the ignorant.

"This may have been the quietest parade that we can remember in decades." Except for when they didn't have a parade. There were some years skipped along the way.

Who Cares . Just a lot of reports and wasted paper. But everyone went home safe that's all that matters. Police work is becoming like a clerks job. Do a report and wait for other people to clean up the messy scene. No one has been fired for nothing on these scenes. Be safe for yourself and the family you go home too every night.

Well...no offense SCC, but maybe that depends on the meaning of 'quietest'.

I was listening to **Citywide Six** and later on in the afternoon some 'teens' apparently got bored and a 'group of 30' (per the radio) went on a little Wilding Spree and caused a little havoc for the coppers on duty. About the same time another group, this one of 100 'teens' (per the radio) went on their little spree; Blocking traffic on one major street (can't recall name now), and generally causing more bullshit for the cops to deal with.

And I know there was at least one, 'man with a gun', call that went out over the radio too. It's great nobody got shot. But it sure sounded like that was just do to shear luck.

Things could have went downhill really quick.

But why doesn't the media say, who is shooting who? Seems to be a problem with minorities with firearms to me.

NOBODY shot at the parade. That should be the lead story on the news. Rahm could present civic awards to the community leaders. Gary could point out how crime is down from previous parades,

All the cops at The Bud parade did an excellent job. However, the honor students still acted like fools - running - fighting etc. and the park was one big cloud of marajuana smoke. 200 plus floats/entries. And a parade that lasted over 5 hours due to huge gaps in between floats. I'd like to see the final bill on this. Half the entries had nothing to do w/ back to school ? What do black lives matter / Hare Krishnas have to do with going back to school?

Hell yeah , black lives matters .
Only when shot while attempting to disarm a police officer , neighborhood watch person or while resisting arrest .
New time low in America , Felons are now the new heroes .

Is the Spirit of Chicago dinner cruise safe and enjoyable on a Friday night?

Is the clientele normal?

9:22...

1.) Quiet, not quite.

2.) You will be fucked if you are unfortunate enough to encounter a Michael Brown, regardless of what the parade goers told you yesterday. The vast majority of them will be on the "Lets fuck 9:22!" bandwagon. Darren Wilson did nothing wrong, yet he is now a pariah.

Don't be the next Darren Wilson.

Used to do the BBP in the 80's and except for one dead baby crib death before the parade began, I usually made the best of the day. Walking and working the park later while eating any ribs or drinking any beer that was offered. The deuce is a retirement district these days.

That sounds a bit high. I had triple by-pass surgery and the bill (before insurance) was about that same amount. SCC - could you post a link to the article that Heartless Taxpayer is referring to ? Thanks.
