Ethics Violations? (UPDATES)

We're pretty sure this was forbidden to us according to the Ethics test we take every year:
  • Cubs offering 2 free tickets to Alderman. Don't they take same ethics test we do ? Are they prohibited from accepting gifts (which these can be several hundred dollars apiece) from a company (Cubs) that do business with the city ?
In the aldercreatures defense, this might be classified as a "once in a lifetime" event. But hey, rules were made to be broken, right?

Wasn't Rahm behind home plate the other day? How much were those tickets? Face value? StubHub? A grand each? They don't just sell those to anybody.

UPDATE: Okay, not freebies? Just moved to the "front of the line" so they wouldn't have to actually sit on hold and hope for the best. Not like they're going to vote on any improvements or zoning variations in the near future, right?

UPDATE: So, kind of like when Daley was offered a condo at that Loop development at some ridiculously low "introductory" offer of a few hundred thousand bucks....and then after the complex was completed, he and the missus were sitting on an un-lived in property worth well over a million. That kind of bribe?

Ethics is for blue shirt lackeys!

Burkes law firm works on city contract.

Rahms Brother owns UBER and lalapalozza.

Cardenas gets a piece of riot fest as donation.

And the media worries about tickets at face value prices.

Soooo it is not a bribe if you pay face value. I can live with this.

By the way the Alderman are not calling themselves for the tickets they have their staff members call. Expect to see realtives in the seat and the seats spread out so the media will not be able to focus on a section and say those are the bribe seat.

But will they be on the ethic statement which is required by law?

According to the Trib......The team offered each of the city's 50 aldermen a pair of terrace reserved tickets on the first level under the balcony at the standard price of $64 to $74 each, team spokesman Julian Green said Monday.

Alder-creature ethics should be same as our ethics. Remember those Values, Rahm?? Its for the children. Guess its wrong for us but not wrong for them...turn the other check routine, huh. What a joke. Its a bribe no matter what way one cuts the cookie..if it walks like a duck, its a duck..if it acts like a bribe then its a bribe. Once-in-a-life-time Tickets costing tons of money are bribes NO matter which way the cookie crumbles. This stinks.

(OT) Here is toni precwinke "add a tax" "To many black n brown felons in jail" adding more taxes for crook county! She is also relying on a 21 million increase in taxes due to a better economy! ERR Toni Oh Toni over here what better economy?? Are you putting anything into the pension funds? Everyone look at your cable bills today look at all the taxes, look at all the extra taxes on cell phone taxes where do these billions go? Please Trump win, send in the FBI strike force along with U.S. Attorney to do a huge forensic audit of city/county/state line them all up we will help load the federal buses with the elected thieves right to the federal building then to prison!

Months after winning approval for a controversial penny-on-the-dollar sales tax increase, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle now wants to extend the county's 3 percent amusement tax to cable TV and recreational activities such as bowling and golf.
n addition to bowling and golf, the county amusement tax also would be extended to the markup on sports ticket resales. City Hall already imposes a 9 percent amusement tax on cable TV, recreational activities and ticket resales, Samstein said.

Beyond that, Preckwinkle will propose a new county tax on the liquids that fuel electronic cigarettes to bring in about $1.5 million a year. The county would charge 20 cents for every milliliter of liquid sold under a plan similar to one put forth by Mayor Rahm Emanuel as part of his 2016 budget.

Preckwinkle also is relying on nearly $21 million in tax revenue growth mostly due to a better economy, nearly $12 million in state reimbursements for probation costs, more than $6 million from special taxing district surpluses and $6 million from cracking down on cigarette and gas tax collections.

Where you're most likely to be a victim of violent crime in Illinois

GALESBURG, Ill. | An inmate who says a Chicago police detective tortured him into confessing to robbery and murder is to be released from prison on Wednesday, two months after an appeals court vacated his 1991 conviction, according to Illinois Department of Corrections officials.

Shawn Whirl has been held at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg. He was convicted in the 1990 fatal shooting of Chicago cabdriver Billy G. Williams and served nearly 25 years of a 60-year prison term.

Whirl alleges he was tortured into confessing by a detective who worked under disgraced former Chicago police commander Jon Burge. Whirl said he was slapped, stepped on and subjected to racial slurs. He said at one point, the detective used a set of keys to repeatedly scrape a wound on Whirl's leg until it was bloody and raw.

An appeals court threw out Whirl's conviction in August and a Cook County judge dismissed all charges on Tuesday. The Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission also ruled that Whirl's conviction was coerced.

"How do I feel? Relieved, but also nervous because this feels surreal," Whirl said when he was told he would be released, according to his attorneys.

Whirl is represented by Flint Taylor and Ben Elson of the People's Law Office and Tara Thompson of the University of Chicago Exoneration Project.

Retired captain and convicted felon Ronnie Nash is dead. Anyone who ever worked with him knows what a hateful and miserable human being he was. He was the youngest man to ever make captain on the CPD, and yet that wasn't enough for him. He strolled into a chop shop, which was actually a federal sting targeting auto thieves, and demanded to be given a cut. He sold his badge along with his dignity and his honor. And then along comes his son, who was convicted in a disability scam wherein he went on disability pension from CPD and then got a FULL-DUTY investigator spot with the Cook County Sheriff. Just google their names and you'll see that it is all a matter of public record and the TRUTH.

Jesus Christ you will whine about everything won't you?

Don't say you would act any different.

This is how it works. If you don't like it, become mayor. Or alderman. Or rich so you can buy tickets.

Who is hurt by this? Another phony from Michigan who went to Northwestern and never left after she graduated and who tells all her friends she "bleeds cubbie blue" but can't name 1/2 the starting line up? That's 85% of cubs fans. The other 15% are idiots who don't understand the economic principles of not rewarding a franchise that refuses to spend money on the players needed to win a World Series.

So Brett and Sara and Logan and Katie didn't get Cubs tickets. Who cares. Grow up already.

A mayor was shown favoritism in getting tickets to a sporting venue. No shit. Wow.

You think he even noticed or cared where he was? Like those shots of him pretending to read a newspaper on a CTA train.

Too busy on smartphone, engaged in global currency manipulation or something.

Two legs, two arms, a head, people jump to conclusions that they're looking at a normal human.

Applies to Mr. "Know whum sayin" "Swiss-cheese-brain" who was so aptly described here. Don't ever overestimate the, uh, abilities.

Applies equally at the other end of the Bell Curve. Don't underestimate people like Rahm -- and I don't mean that in a good way. "Hafen gonif brennt a hittel." Guy working so "fast and furious" on his next move that the brain-heat is setting his hat to smoldering...

Didn't think so.

Speaking of ethics
Did commander small balls kj ever restore those officers back on tact. Heard they were oust for impounding police Officer SD family my member car because the passenger had marijuana on him and no identification.
So because you work around the bosses at headquarters Officer SD you cry like a bitch To chief Tracy, SC and a few others tell the goofy commander in 005 to get rid of the officers. Total violation of ethics and everyone involved should be oust. Officers impound vehicles everyday for the same BS. That's why everyone is bidding out of 005 th district because KJ does not support his officers.
Ask him about those search warrants he executed in 7th district. Lots of lies told and I'm surprised he's not in the penitentiary.

9:15pm....are you seriously comparing cops receiving two free tickets to a Sox game to a playoff Cubs game?? The Sox are obviously struggling to get people through the turn styles and need asses in the seats, plus the games they chose were played against horrible teams. That in contrast to politicians being given the opportunity to buy seats that most ordinary people couldnt get there hands on, that go for hundreds of $$$ on the secondary market and people would die for for face value. Come on man!!!!

I don't know, I went in soft clothes, I was paid, on the payroll, I got free lunch and I left early. And you are crying because you heard some rumor about going in uniform? Here is the solution: Don't go. It is optional, you don't have to go. Problem solved.

Dear SCC

Here is hope that you are well and this this blog continues to be the shining beacon of hope to cops in Chicago for the next 100 years or more.

You have said that you are not a baseball fan and certainly not a CUBS fan.

OK, that is your God given constitutionally protected right. But many, if not most at this time, of your fans, readers, congregation are CUBS fans. Right now this is a once in a lift time occurrence. So why not give your people some postings on the CUBS progress to the World Series.

We know they are not perfect, that Wrigley Field got all kinds of taxpayer perks. But right not they are the only thing we can be proud of in this town.

All things considered, this is a great team. They are not bating their wives, using corked bats, getting caught gabling on baseball, fathering dozens of bastard kids or being found comatose in a Vegas brothel.

Hey, it's for the children.

Wasn't Rahm behind home plate the other day?

Actually, Rahm attended BOTH games. Both times he was in the area behind home plate. The cheapest tickets I've found so far would cost $411, Upper Deck,Row 539. Were Rahm was seen sitting, well for the NLCS series, it would cost him any where from $1578 (Club Box 19, Row 8) to $2012 (Club Box 19, Row 5).

At least Cubs fans have gone to college. Not like Sox fans who, for some extra dough, rent their residential permit parking stickers on game days.

NOT FREE. The White Sox and Cubs have both done this as far back as 83.
All 53 elected city officials are allowed to buy 2 tickets at face value per game.

But even given the chance to buy them without having to jump thru hoops
IMO isn't right.

Good point. The rank and file are told that they can't even accept a free cup of coffee. Our masters. masters, masters tell us it put's the whole dept in a bad light. Accepting something that is not available to everyone else reeks of impropriety.

But accepting tickets to play off games that, let's face it, are historic to this city and which a great number of it's citizens would snap up if they were offered them, goes against our alleged ethics training.

I am really tired of listening to all the whiners: He got tickets to the game. He got a take home car. You all sound like the Democrats screaming about 'income inequality'. It's ridiculous.

Believe me when I say I don't like the Mayor. I loathe him as much as the former Mayor, but he is the Mayor of the City and like it or not he should be at the game.
There are advantages to being on top. It's a fact of life. That's why we work to be top dog. Whining like this is not only poor manners, it sounds churlish. It sounds like class envy. It sounds like a Democrat.

Now, about those Aldermen being there.......they keep showing up and the goat might be off the hook.

10/14/2015 05:05:00 PM

Does anyone think Daley paid for World Series tickets? Not a chance. Daley marched into the Sox stadium and ate for free and got his tickets for free and had his ass kissed by those outside whose job that is.

If Rahm had any balls he would walk up to the "Special People" entrance and say "Hey, what the fuck, I don't pay!" The first time anyone gave Rahm a hard time getting in would be the last. An army of fire inspectors and police would close the place long enough to throw the TV schedule way out of whack. The dickhead doesn't know how to be the Mayor.

Who are these guys wasting their time coming on here to defend these criminal professional political assholes? "They were offered at face value..." Get the fuck outta here with your face value. Face value my nuts. Who else can get those tickets at face value? That's right, no one.

It's a favor and everyone knows it.

And to the poster who compares this to the Sox giving police cops 2 free tickets (and I say this with no rancor or offense intended), it's not the same. The Sox are showing their appreciation to first responders because WE RISK OUR LIVES EVERY FUCKING DAY WE PUT ON THIS UNIFORM AND PATROL IN A CAR. What do the Mayor and Aldermen do that compares to what we do? What else can they get for free or practically for free that they don't get already since they got their license to steal because they won some rigged popularity contest that maybe 6,000 people turn out to vote in?

I think it's misleading to compare this contemporary class of political cowards to the royalty of old. A quick scan of historical battles shows quite a few royals fighting and dying in the wars they started. When was the last time an elected official of our political elite, at any level of government, was KIA in their nation's wars?

In the earlier days or our Republic, many men went to fight for their nation eeither before they ran for office or during their term. Nowadays, with this professional class of two-faced lying carpet baggers we tax payers are forced to support the rest of their lives since getting in office? Not so much.

I recall that when the Cubs went to the playoffs in 1984, The Tribune, which had just purchased the team, offered 20 or 30 playoff tickets to the 018th Dist. The tickets were allotted by a raffle for each of the first two games against San Diego. The tickets had to be purchased at face value. After the Cubs won those two games, the Tribune did the same thing for the World Series. I had won one of the World Series tickets. They were good seats too, somewhere in Sec 125 or 126. That was the closest I came to going to a World Series game. Those three games lost in San Diego were disappointing to say the least.
