Here Come Some Feds

  • About 20 additional agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are headed to Chicago, less than two weeks after President Donald Trump threatened to “send in the Feds,” sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

David Coulson, a spokesman for the Chicago field office of the ATF, said: “We are always seeking to enhance the enforcement efforts of ATF … in conjunction with CPD.”

[...] Sources said about 20 agents will join the Chicago field office, which has a total staff of about 120 and covers the city, the suburbs and northwest Indiana.
There should be a serious federal effort to take gun crimes federal...you know, the way that Obama's Department of Justice completely neglected to do. Serious sentences will put a certain dent in crime, giving lie to the oft repeated refrain of, "We can't arrest our way out of this situation."

Bullshit. You arrest the right people and send em away, you'll sentence your way out of 800 dead this year for starters.

These savages dont care if they get caught with a gun. If you give them real jail time, in a real prison, far away, not in crook county, they will think twice about carrying illegal guns. Call our bluff and see what happens. I hope they start locking up these guys and they do serious time!!!

Simple.

Felon with a gun? He or she has earned a ten year sentence to a Federal Prison.

How many thugs will he kill in Chicago for the next few years? ZERO! NIL! NADA! NONE!

And he is very likely to end his sentence alive and unperforated.

Lock them up! They are safer in prison!!!
And the Neighborhoods are safer too!!!

Charge anyone committing a crime furthered by firearm under State and Federal statutes that apply.

State: Lack of FOID, Possession of firearm w/o FOID, Possession of Ammo w/o FOID, Aggravated this or that with a firearm, possession of firearm by felon... Every time they shoot at someone different - make it a separate charge. Figure 10 years per charge and that's 50 years. No plea bargain, no parole, no early release, no home monitoring, no bond, no "time served", no day for day... no bullshit. Make all the sentences serve consecutively to each other.

Federal: Possession of firearm by felon, Lying on the 4473, Selling to a prohibited person, crossing State lines w/the firearm to sell to a prohibited person, Using interstate transport (Expressway) to commit felonious acts, whatever they can come up with. False ID, etc... 10 years each there too - same sentencing. Make it happen AFTER the State charges are completed - so there's another 30 years...

Put Pookie & Co. in jail for 80 years for what they call 'clownin' and make sure everyone in the Community knows about it. Put up billboards, and handbills all over with Pookie's Mug shot, Prison #, Sentence, and his location so his Crew can get in touch to say "Happy Birthday" for the next 80 years. Wanna bet even the most thick headed M'fer says "Hell, it ain't worth it... Might as well start selling black market untaxed loosie Sodas on the corner..."

Back in the day in the mid to late 90s when the fed had a gun task force in conjunction with the CPD, a lot of prosecutions were brought in federal court. CPD officers were detailed to work with the US Attorney's office to make gun cases. One of the USAs was Ginny Cowhey who was a tough federal prosecutor. If a defendant is convicted in federal court they must do 85% of their sentence before being eligible for parole. A lot of bad guys were sentenced under the federal statutes and some are still in the federal penitentiaries. Ginny Cowhey is now US District Court Judge Virginia Kendall. She is an excellent federal judge. Under Obama the US Attorney's office was not directed to team up with CPD to roll up the gun sellers and offenders. If that would start again, it would get guns off the street and put some sellers away for a long time.

Here is a very simple way to "Enhance" the ATF/CPD relationship and reduce Gun Violence: PROSECUTE FELONS WITH FIREARMS FEDERALLY! Make them serve the Federal 80% of the sentence and house them as far away from Chicago as possible! It was tried here and elsewhere in the 90's and it worked. But never forget Two Components involved in anything related to Chicago or Cook County Government: RACE and POLITICS! Nobody from the Mayor, Superintendent of Police, Aldermen and or the State's Attorney is going to do anything without considering the Racial and Political Impact of that action. Preckwinkle is the heart of the Black Political Machine, and she feels that CPD and "Da System" is putting too many people of color in jail and prison. The Chief Judge is Black. Judges in this System have credibility issues with cops as do Prosecutors; so people who should be in the Ill. Dept. of Correction System serving their sentences, are on the street. Start sending them away for 80% of their sentences and there will be Less Shooters=Less Violence. Remember the old Crime Triangle: Victim, Location, Offender. If you removed any of those from the triangle; the circuit is broken! Locking shooters up for extended periods of time will reduce crime, but Politically and Race conscious Cook County judges are Reluctant to do that! Politics = Chicago Values! Do as Little as Possible, at some point it will have to change. Baby"G"

Sending in the Feds to starting enforcing Federal gun laws is certainly a good idea, especially since Rahm talks a good game but Rahm and Kimmy and Toni don't deliver results.

And it is interesting to watch Donald Trump (who is not from Chicago), do more in 8 days than Barack Obama (who is from Chicago) do in 8 years. But I digress.

But how much difference will it really make? Oh, you might shave 20 basis points off the murder rate. And that would certainly be a good thing.

But the gun problem in Chicago is driven by gangs. And the lifeblood of the gangs is drug sales. You can throw as many people in jail as you want to, but when it comes to drug sales, there will always be newcomers eager to step in and fill that void. Ain't no shortage of laborers for that job. The profits are just too high, and too enticing.

And the sales of drugs is not just a highly paid entreprenurial activity, it is also a lifestyle. Complete with bling and a rap music sound track. It is so engrained in the culture, it can never be eliminated. N-e-v-e-r.

After decades of the War on Drugs, I don't know if it has gotten any worse but it certainly does not seem to have gotten any better.

The only way the problem will ever be solved is to put the gangs out of the drug business. And the only way to do that is to go nuclear. Legalize drugs.

Puts them out of business. Overnight.

A perfect solution? Probably not. The re-legalization of alcohol was certainly not without its drawbacks. But on balance, it was much better than continuing the policy of Prohibition.

And if legalizing drugs doesn't prove to be a net-net positive for society, we can always go back to the failed policies of Rahm Emanuel that haven't produced any results.

You may agree with me. You may not. But if you don't agree with me, what's your solution?

Call the next case. Not a cop.

Maybe just coincidence but there wasn't one major federal prosecution of any gangs from Chicago during Obamas 2 terms. Then at the end of his term he pardons one of the highest ranking GD's in the city. You would have figured he would have wanted to clean up where he came from. But maybe that would have pissed off who helped put you there in the first place.

Remember this next time you watch Senator Durbin screaming for tougher gun laws. There are 94 Federal Judicial Districts, the Northern District of Illinois which Chicago is part of ranked 93 in prosecuting gun cases under the Democratic President from Chicago

This is all smoke & mirrors. Similar to how we get detailed, the Feds can get sent or volunteer to go to Chicago or wherever with the reward bring that they get to leave and assigned to somewhere they're trying to get to. Spend 6 months or so there and then you can leave, no one will remember by then.

A lot safer, taking down Myron, that mixing it with 20 hood mopes raiding a boxcar full of M-4's around 2 am in freakin' Chicago Riverdale.

Then again, the possibility that the head agent would now get a call from President Trump asking him exactly what he was hoping to accomplish busting poor Myron gives me...hope!

I want to say something regarding poster 2/5/17-330AM. You are so right regarding the Federal Gun Task Force with Officers from the CPD. There are two issue that always stood out in these Federal Task Force is that they have all the time in the world to build a case. The second issue is money. If they need money they go to the justice department and obtain it. There is no hurry up and lets make a pinch so we can have numbers. If Trumps does this, then this is a great start. I hope this is what they do. As one can see with Emmanuel, everything is optics. Make several arrests and he has cameras all over it. I hope whoever is in charge will start up this fine program, give them the resources to make it successful, and hopefully get the "RIGHT" Officers (Workers, no hacks) for this detail. This could be the start of Making America Great Again.

To all the new police, don't ever trust a FBI agent on an investigation and that goes with merit bosses.

What a great job to be an ATF agent in Chicago. CPD does the real police work, makes the arrest, then some ATF agent slaps a cover report with a criminal history on the existing CPD reports, then "presents" the case to the USAO. The felon in possession of a firearm (bad guy) gets charged with federal crimes and does a longer sentence than if convicted of the equivalent ILCS charge.

Now for the reminder: if you haven't gotten the memo yet, you are expected to write detailed, accurate and true reports. This is the way it should be. So if you're used to embellishing a little on reports to make them sound better, or to make your case better, DON'T even think about it. YOU WILL be a defendant in Federal Court if you get caught. Do your job the way you know you are supposed to do it. If a case is weak, so what! Play it straight (like you are supposed to) and all will be well.

Just because assholes lie on the street all the time, does not justify us doing it.

I worked on a state-local-federal drug task force in southern Illinois several years ago- DEA, IRS, state police and local cops. We took down a lot of hoodlums who had laughed at the state court system. Many got 10-20 or more years. Many are still doing time (in spite of Obama). It might work in Chicago, too. But you need a U.S. Attorney who wants to prosecute people. Jeff Sessions will emphasize this.

"What if the Feds find that CPD officers violated the civil rights of offenders during an arrest?? Will the Feds then pursue charges against the officers??'

Feds don't make charging decisions, AUSAs do. But to answer your question, yes. If ATF observes or finds evidence of criminal violations by CPD, they will present the evidence to the USAO. If it's civil rights-related, they will turn it over to, or at least work it with the FBI. Most won't want to chase after the police, but if a copper puts them between a rock and a hard place, the copper will be on the losing end. No fed will risk being charged with obstruction of justice to cover for unlawful activity. This is the same concept the Department wants you to adopt.

That being said, why the fuck would you intentionally act like a cowboy and put yourself at risk? Those days are long over. Law enforcement is a profession (it always was, but some acted like no real rules applied.) Who cares if dude has an attitude? Who cares if dude (with an IQ of 38) tells you to fuck your mother? Who cares if dude runs away from a crime? None of that means you get to use unreasonable force.

Use your brains and catch dude, handcuff him/her, write real, factual reports, and go home to your family. Or, don't catch dude. Don't lift a finger to do anything. Make a choice and do it without jamming yourself or your parter.
