There are always possibilities. The Church, however, need to stick to "church" things. How about the need for a traditional family where the father is actually in the picture? How about personal responsibility? How about morals and such, you know, those parables that teach you life lessons? This is where the church needs to stand up and be heard.
How about the Catholic Church stays out of politics. OK, we all know they have to watch out for their best interests, but the blatant political work on behalf of some politicians and in some areas is beyond the pale, activist priests and the like. The current politicians in charge of the Catholic Church have made it easy for so many to walk away from organized religion. Decades from now people will look back on these days and wonder why they didn't see it coming.
Sadly it's not St. Sabina Catholic Church, its the "Faith Community of St. Sabina". 95% of the attendees and enrolled at St. Sabina "Academy" aren't even Catholic. By the way, wasn't Father Phleghm supposed to have been given stuff to do at St. Margaret of Scotland?

Well, you are partially correct in this. But, I think white people have the answer to slow down the violence. No one has the answer to stop the violence for it has been going on in the black community for over one hundred years. What is stopping any meaningful programs to stem the violence are the black legislative caucus who refuses to back stricter sentencing for gun violence and demands no change in prison rules that lets people out early. The democrats run Chicago and Cook County and they have not put the resources into the black community that is needed to strengthen the family, job training and most of all schools as they are too busy taking money from the teacher's union. Blame the white and black democrats for the mess. Not the police

The Catholic Church in Chicago has been selling out Latinos for decades now. I can remember when they closed St. Francis on Roosevelt Rd.( since reopened), ignoring the fact that working Mexican Americans, who were putting money in the collection plate, and receiving shit in return! The Church went out of its way to recruit Black Protestants, (Southern Baptists) for their colleges and law schools, ignoring qualified Latinos. All through the 70's,80's and present time, the Church offered scholarships to Black, while offering crumbs to Latinos. The role of the Latino in the Catholic Church is on his/her knees, to be obedient and to shut up. Except on the issue of Illegal Immigration, so more Latinos can come to the Church. For the Illegals, the Church will even break laws. This is why the Mormon faith and other Protestant denominations are making such inroads within the Latino, especially Puerto Rican communities.
So, now the Church shows its ignorance of Reality again. Does this meeting mean, we do not have a gang, drug and violence problem in the Latino communities? None of the dead youths in Chicago are Latino? Really; tell that to the clergy in Humboldt Park and Pilsen. What Catholics, all over the City need to do is to take One Sunday, and contribute NOTHING, not a cent to the Church. One Sunday, as a Protest! Shitcaga is so rotten it can even corrupt a religion,. An agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement shot and wounded a man while serving an arrest warrant Monday morning at a Chicago home on the Northwest Side, authorities said.
The shooting in the Belmont Central neighborhood occurred around 6:20 a.m. in the 6100 block of West Grand Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The father of the person wanted in the warrant pointed a gun at the ICE agents and one of them fired, hitting the man in the left arm, police sources said. The 53-year-old man was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, fire officials said.
Police sources indicated the father had fired at the ICE agents, but a statement from the federal agency said the man "pointed a weapon toward agents. As a result, a special agent discharged his firearm and shot the individual, injuring him."
Both the man at the hospital and the person named in the warrant were in police custody, officials said.
Chicago police officers weren't at the scene when the shooting happened after an "encounter" between an ICE agent and someone in the home, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
"CPD officers did not participate in the federal initiative today but officers responded quickly to the shooting involving the federal agent," the department said in a statement.
The Chicago Police Department said it would "investigate the underlying criminal offense" and work with the federal Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. attorney's office.
ICE said its Office of Professional Responsibility would review the shooting. "Due to this ongoing review, no further details will be released at this time,” the statement said.

The church can start by using their political muscle to promote fair , legitimate CPD promotional exams. A city with 800 murders a year can't afford a CPD promotional process where 30% of the promotions are given to people based on family relationships, who their lover is and political relationships while another 30 to 40% outright cheat by attending secret study groups by invitation only where certain bosses have the test itself and tutor these special clouted people in return for a fee charged. My god , what will it take ? A 50% drop in people shopping on Michigan ave and white flight from the city before the CPD is ready for reform?

The church selling out Latinos? Where do you get that nonsense? It is well known fact that Latinos are church going people. But, what they are not are strong financial supporters of the church. The collection plate in Hispanic parishes is always a little lite. Now, you can blame that on poverty if you want to, but the same pattern is found in Mexico and Central America.

Nope. First guy was right and Cupich is a disgrace. It's a very weak argument to just say there is nothing he can do. In fact it is no argument at all. He wears it like a stain and has done nothing about it. Because of that, more Catholics march away from the church.
I graduated from Quigley South in the late 70’s. My life has been severely impacted by this catholic institution. Father B (librarian) and Father D (religious ed) … I wrote a letter to Cardinal Cupich. I pray others were not impacted.
