Oh, Poor Criminals

  • Plans to delay bond hearings at Chicago branch courts by more than four hours have been slowed after five top Cook County criminal justice players voiced concern about the rollout.

A joint letter signed by officials including Sheriff Tom Dart and State's Attorney Kim Foxx expressed concern to Chief Judge Timothy Evans about how the time change could result in defendants charged with misdemeanors lingering in custody for hours longer.

"It seems particularly unprecedented to have all the stakeholders in the county making this plea to the chief judge," said Cara Smith, chief policy officer for the sheriff's office. "We're not always on the same side of issues when it comes to reform."

Chicago's five branch courts currently hold bond hearings in the morning, usually 9 a.m. Judges there decide whether defendants will be held on bond or released with instructions to appear at their next court date.

Evans previously had planned to push all those hearings to 1:30 p.m. to allow more time for staffers to assess defendants' backgrounds and flight risk so judges could have more information to make their bond decisions.
You'd think that with Dart's record of releasing dozens of violent criminals to rape, kill and main while on bond, he'd be more on board with a more thorough background check to weed out those who need to be housed until their next court date. You'd think with almost 500 "inmates" missing who are supposed to be on Electronic Monitoring, Dart would be especially supportive of extensive vetting of the arrestees. An extra few hours to ensure the safety of the taxpayers would seem to be paramount.

You'd be mistaken.

Remember, Dart is a lawyer, not a policeman, not a Corrections officer. He knows zip about either profession. He is a typical democrat political hack who has never worked a day in his life and NEVER WILL

What the article doesn't state is the Sheriff holds detainees for hours after court before they are released. Dart just paid out a 2 million dollar suit for that specifically. I truly think that spokeswoman Cara Smith is a pathological liar.

Someday the mass releasing of these POS will spill over from the hood and severely bite the progressives in their rightly deserved asses.

7April@12:33 - You correctly observe that Cara Smith is a pathological liar, thus sparing TV Tommy any embarrassing media moments. Since when does a "chief policy officer" act as a press aide? Guess a new title justifies a higher salary. Is reporter Mike Fannery's kid still a policy officer, too. When it comes to the 19th Ward, mediocrity is its most important product. Like AlderCreature Matt O'Shea caving into #blm and Dan Hynes getting taxpayer funds for his alma mater, De Paul University's stadium. But the morons in Beverly are actually proud of all their neighbors with unmarked Sheriff's squad cars parked in front. They think that it makes the neighborhood safer. What they don't know is that Dart the Fart will not let his top staff carry firearms. Fancy new squad cars and more gold stars running around like Barney Fife.

When will someone in the newsmedia ask Dart about the 500 inmates that Dart has put on Electronic Home Monitoring and have disappeared? They apparently have cut their bracelets off and Dart cannot find them.

Out of curiosity, how much does a monitoring bracelet cost?

For the 500 missing people (and folks), how many monitors are recovered?

Why don't we just use save a piece of paper we use for the anov program we could go to the scene have the victim sign their name on a complaint then we have the offender is a copy they can sign that they promise to come for a hearing then they can go after they promised to come and have fun the rest of the day. Tommy wants warrants to expire after five years maximum why even bother issuing a warrant wasting time this county city and state are so full of corruption the criminals are obviously running the system they elected here are the worst in United States we need to concentrate and have the feds looked into using the power of attorney general Jeff sessions into why our pension is the worst funded and under 25% in the country. That is our money that is obviously without a doubt not being contributed to and or being misappropriated look at some of the loans given by the Pension Board $60 million to the Family of the X mayor and how much more.

Gee wonder how far that money could've went helping the retirees from the Chicago Police Department who need healthcare that was viciously taken away by the mayor viciously ripped from them these officers working the streets many are broken many and their health destroy and now this was taken away this benefit was removed the mayor and the 50 involved in this should be removed from office not only for doing this for all of the carnage all the bodies hitting the floor the swap needs to be drained here don't know how long it's going to take but so far President Trump has kept his promises we are the forgotten man and women not just of the country we have the forgotten man and women of the Chicago police department.

I think bond hearings should be held at 7:00 or 7:30 A.M. But I suppose having to get up to go to court at 9:00 A.M. and go to work and do their job must be a big inconvenience to some judges.
Funny how Officers, at any time during their shifts, can almost invariably make correct life or death decisions. Just ask them who needs to be kept in a cage.

Well first of all presumed criminals. But seriously THAT's her biggest concern here? Because you'd have to wait extra 4 hours for the system to make sure you're not gonna shoot up someone later that day?

Public safety is the least of their concerns. "Stakeholders?" No, Foxx, Dart, et al. are political players, the tax paying citizens who are criminally victimized are the stakeholders.

The goal for Dart and Preckwinkle is that anyone charged with a property crime, felony or misdemeanor will not spend a day in jail awaiting trial. They are considered not dangerous and because they might be poor cannot afford any bond and then are being punished for being poor. It is coming to a neighborhood near you. Everyone will be I bonded out within days of their arrest.
