Rahm: "Raise Taxes!"

Typical democrat - never met a tax he didn't like:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Wednesday that the federal gas tax should be raised by up to 10 cents per gallon during a discussion of the $1 trillion infrastructure plan being touted by President Donald Trump.

The mayor was speaking at a Wall Street Journal-sponsored breakfast in Washington when an audience questioner proposed a 5-cent gasoline tax hike.

"I'm for your nickel and I'll up you a nickel," Emanuel responded. "I'm for a dime, you want to do a nickel, whatever."
Anyone know when the last time it was that Rahm paid for a gallon of gas? How about slashing government - all this "Assistants to the Assistant," Deputy Chiefs, layers of bureaucracy, etc. Oh wait....Chicago. Sorry.

How about no illegals aliens here and you wouldn't have to ask for taxes to be raised. The left is hellbent on destroying our country. I hope the Feds start charging, convict, and carry out sentence quickly on these globalist.

California just raised their state gas tax 25 cents a gallon. They need for tax revenue to support the millions of illegals who poured over the border the last 8 years. I say raise the Federal gas tax by $5 a gallon. Sure the politicians can find plenty of ways to p*ss it away.

Citizen reader: Well the good news is Trump officials are unlikely to listen to anything Rahm says because they like the rest of us are not listening to social policy from someone like Rahm. When he demonstrates he can effectively manage Chicago, then he can move his stature forward. But now, lets just agree the guy is a loser. And look at all the examples that support that thought.

A raise in the federal gas tax does not become a windfall for the city. The tax itself hasn't been increased since 1993. Can you say that about any other tax? There is no way that even comes close to keeping up with inflation. Since gas is still relatively cheap, it makes sense to increase the tax. Bridges are falling apart, roads are falling apart, the roads weren't designed to handle the amount of traffic they handle, etc. Where do you think the money came from to rebuild the Kennedy? Or to rebuild the circle interchange? Or the ramps at the Stevenson and Lakeshore Drive? Almost all the funds are federal funds. The federal gas tax is a tax that really does some good. The alternative? More toll roads, and even private tool roads. Now THAT is something the politicians can manipulate to line their pockets.

True. But I would ask "high salaries and benefits" compared to whom. My brother was a union electrician and a friend of mine was a union tool and die maker (back in the day stuff was actually manufactured in the USA). Both of them made a heck of a lot more money than I did on the CPD. But I did have the "benefit" of working nights, weekends and holidays without extra compensation, they both said they would never do that and if they did they'd be in hot water with their union

I also had the "benefit" of studying studiously for promotional exams, always scoring very well only to have promotions I deserved given to others who in my opinion weren't deserving (meaning they scored lower than I).

Read the article, it's a national tax increase he's pushing for. My guess is if the federal tax goes up 5 cents, look for Illinois to go up another 10 cents. Neither has been raised in over 20 years. And they will use Trump's infrastructure programs as the reason for the increase.

This is typical for Democrat Politicians. Remember when Hillary admitted she had not driven an automobile since the 1980! When was the last time Rahm or any of these Hacks even made a payment on a car note? The Reality is that these parasites live in a world of sucking up our money. Rahm must go, but the threat of a Rod Sawyer as a replacement is very real. Unless a credible candidate surfaces soon; those of us dumb enough to stay here will suffer greatly. Baby "G"

The democrats in Illinois have fine tuned government. It is a system that is there to put money into the pockets of the political class, not a system that is intended to run government efficiently. Over 7000 units of government all with pensions and great pay, more then double that of any other state in the union. And, as somone pointed out, unnecessary job titles, unnecessary jobs and a pay rate much higher then the private sector. Not to even mention that many people do not work within their job titles. The Office of The First Deputy was always the place to hide job titles, people holding these titles that do not work in the police department. But, they get great salaries, take home cars and who in the hell knows where they work?

I buy gas for both cars on the way to Maxons. It is 2.89 a gallon for high test. Ten cents here, five cents there after a while it adds up to the point of making it hard to live in the city. If Rahm does not leave, we will have to. We both work hard and he is squeezing out the working man from a working man's city.
This place sucks so bad and we are all hostages to the midget. He gets away with all kinds of fuckery you can read about here on SCC, and we can't even pay the tax. How does this midget MF find the dough for his pet projects? Amazing.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE POLICE PENSION FUND IS GETTING ADDED TO? Fucking midget.

This was an obama thing, since every car on the road is getting high mileage per gallon, gas is plentiful and sales are low.
Solution - Raise the tax.

Oh it's for the Roads, believe me. It's for a safe, clean green city livelihood, really.
Tax money goes to social programs benefitting corrupt politicians, connected suppliers and the deadbeats, plain and simple.
That will never change. Get it - Spend it and demand more.
There's a Fed limit to gas taxation and Illinois,Cook Co Chicago sure would like to get some extra freeloader money. 10% now but only limits of 1% per year cap thereafter.

Go out and buy a hydrid or an electric car and save the world. Believe that do ya?
Higher registration fee coming and expensive technical maintenance for these cars.
Change over to a water meter to "save" on the $1200 annual bill.
And when enough taxpayers fall for that trap, Rahm (or whoever) sells off the Jardine Plant, the new private entity will raise that rate even beyond any non meter rate.
Look to LAZ Parking for an example of what happens when you sell off public revenue sources to privatization.

My last Chicago gas tax contribution was $10 worth of $2.89 Regular in 2015 only because I didn't fill up the day before in Dupage.

you want to see a raise in taxes? You have not seen anything yet. Wait until the democrats get ahold of the governor's house. Look for a constitutional referendum to institute a graduated state income tax and a tax on pensions. And, they might try for an amendment to alter pensions. Everything will be up in the air next governor's election, the only time they can do this every four years. If the politicians can get these possible amendments on the ballot and they get majority votes, then the matter goes to the state legislators for a 2/3 vote.
