Scapegoat #1

  • O’Hare Airport security chief Jeffrey Redding was fired Thursday from his $118,020-a-year job for failing to fully disclose the sexual harassment allegations that prompted the Illinois Tollway to get rid of him.

Redding has been on the hot seat ever since three of his aviation police officers boarded a United Airlines jet on April 9 and dragged a bloodied and flailing Dr. David Dao down the aisle for failing to give up his seat for a United crew member.

The incident is the subject of dual investigations by Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans and Inspector General Joe Ferguson.

But Redding’s firing has nothing to do with the viral video that has damaged Chicago’s reputation as an international tourist destination.
You know what else "damaged" Chicago's reputation? 1,000 people shot in under 120 days.

The viral video also seems to have nothing to do with someone (anyone!) in the media actually looking into city hiring practices, whereby clouted problem children are shunted from one taxpayer-funded job to another when they do something stupid to bring heat down on the Machine and themselves. We still don't believe for a second the story being spread in our comment sections about this guy leaving IAD on his own, especially in light of the corruption we've been pointing out there for years, up to and including the testing scandal.

This guy is shit-canned after a seven day investigation? Odds are there's something else in the background that Rahm doesn't want exposed, and Redding being front and center only increases the odds of it leaking.

He'll land another government job before Christmas.

Hey - live by clout, die by clout.

I don't feel sorry for this guy. He stole a job that someone else - better qualified - could have had.

Not only did he steal one job, when he screwed up, he was "rewarded" by his clout with another six-figure job.

That's what's fucked up in Illinois.

Incompetence gets rewarded -if it is clouted,
Mediocre people get hired (but never promoted), and
Really good people may get hired - but never promoted and eventually leave out of frustration or turn into "do-nothings" just to get through to a pension - if they last that long.

We all know IAD ascends straight to Heaven without an interview, probably with a promotion thrown in with it, so enough of this rumor mongering.

Perhaps a new administration came in and he simply left throwing away a pension and bennies because of it. However he does deserve his own statue in the Police museum for being the only copper who left the job voluntarily with 19 years on. This Dr. Drag stuff is a trivial matter and these thing happen just about everyday in the airline industry.
Notice how the Fake and Lazy Media is reporting these incidents every day.
For instance this week, guy gets booted for peeing, lady can't take stroller on board (but they don't elaborate on the goof who stood up and threatened the attendant), gal sues for pervert wanking next to her, giant rabbit kilt for no reason.
The Fake and Lazy Media really likes to stir the pot.
And by highlighting this, it really opens the door for more airline disruption and tantrums from passengers accustomed to getting what they want.

Getting back to Rahm's guy, The Fake Media won't dig into the Ohare politics, that's too hard. They don't rely on insider tips, Rahm & Ginger wouldn't approve stories like that. The doctor drag was settled very very quickly. Two weeks for a huge settlement is mighty quick to believe that it was just United paying out. Did The Worm Rahm send in his negotiating team?
Hey TSA, make him go through the magnetometer and screening next time he flies United. Let's see what's in those bags.

There's no mention if there was any settled lawsuit payouts paid for the sex harassments allegations Redding cost the agencies.
Maybe the scoop is coming after more deflection. But here probably digging into Reddings temporary replacement instead.
Redding could wind up at the new improved Cook Co Homeland Security.

All of the above is true until you compared the plane incident with L McDonald. Lets just focus on plane, I'm a Chicago Police Officer and its been pounded in my head never get involved in any labor or cililvil issues no matter what your opinion(s) maybe. The plane incident occurred because of an over booking issue. Then to assist some pilots and flight attendants getting to their destinations to work they offer money's for passengers to give up their seats. Sounds like a labor issue to me; then the United people have a procedure for over booking which again is not in the criminal realm but more a labor and cilivil action. That's the big problem with getting involved with something like the United flight being over booked as the Airport Police did, which was not right. Any CPD Sgt. of worth would never have been involved with what happened on that plane period. First, was the passenger a security risk, was he violating a law, was there a criminal law be violated or he attempted to violate; if your answers are no, then WTF are doing on that plane dragging this jagoff around. The bottom line, no United personnel will be disciplined but the officers are in trouble for trying to get free flight tickets or a blow job from a fight attendant. Take your choice female or male. But seriously, if it's not criminal it probably not a police matter.

Dear Aviation Security Officer,

Please stop posting comments like this over and over. It was a civil matter. I also didn't see the Asian guy wielding a knife. Stop comparing an unruly customer with an armed assailant. Also, you ARE NOT POLICE. Attending a police academy and passing the state test does not bestow police powers upon you. Anyone can attend SWIC academy with no sponsor and when they graduate they are not the police until they are hired as such and commissioned with police powers, which none of you are. You're not going to get police on your side by likening yourselves to them. You are not the same. You are gunless security guards. Make your case another way. In the meantime you are insulting police who have had to go through the process of being hired and serving as actual police by saying that you are the same thing. Please don't be that weird security guy who calls us "brother". Get through this scandal and either enjoy continuing to be the best paid least worked security in existence or become real police if you want to. But stop saying you're the same as us. It is alienating you.

Think what you want SCC, but Redding was not under investigation when he left the job to join the tollway authority. He was not part of a scandal and he wasn't running away. It was just a much better job offer. Plenty of people from exempt on down to his co-workers and close friends tried to talk him out of it. Or at least postpone it for a few months until he hit his 20 years. He was thisclose to completing 20 years and being vested in a pension as well as qualifying for IROCC. He didn't care, he just wanted to move on.

What he may have done afterwards I don't know. Did he harass a subordinate at the tollway? Only the two of them know the real story. But he wasn't dirty, nor he was he under investigation when he left.

Not sure what you mean by the "North Shore" but if you're talking about Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park I would stay away at night also. Lots of robberies and sexual assaults. Hey even if this guy is a total goof, so what. I'm a CPD Officer who like other Police Officers have been told over and over, "never get involved in any civil matters dealing with a labor issue." The comparison of another goof running up and down the street on south Pulaski, armed with a knife is not even close to what happened to the goof just sitting in his assigned seat on an airplane. Like what was said above, if it's not criminal or heading in that direction, you have to pause and think about what you are going. It's very clear to me, the Airport Police or whatever you want to call them, should have never gotten involved in a non-criminal incident. Their actions should be used in the Police Academy as a training film for years to come and the lesson, do not get involved in civil or labor issues.

I heard that CPD responded to the United call at the same time as DOA. The CPD officer said the job was not police related and left. The DOA officers stayed and got involved. The officers have to scan their ID before entering the jet bridge so there is proof of who was there. DOA never asked for supervision and became involved in a non-criminal event.
Redding has several DOA officers dress in plain clothes to catch airline employees for minor violations. Again without training and no supervision. Redding never had control over his agency. Ginger Evans should be embarrassed for hiring him without a background investigation. Is anyone in charge at the airport? The Chicago way, hire only who you are told to hire.

Lionel Hutz gave good advice, but I would add tourist's should stay away from Chicago. It is much too dangerous now including during daylight hours. If you must visit, (but I wouldn't if I were you), be very careful, stay sober and aware of your surroundings while being transported to and fro in a vehicle with a driver you trust. Not a police officer, just a Chicago civilian.

Fact is new video and testimony proves that the "victim" banged his own face in the arm rest and caused most of his injuries. Don't know how mush this moron got but it has to be in the $millions.

Yep. I know the CPD guy who works that terminal that was in those videos the other day. Good copper, great instincts, solid guy. He'd never be stupid enough to be a jagoff for the airlines. This is something that happens ALL THE TIME with the airlines. Most of all with the Tac guys who end up doing most of the pinches out there. Tac has put these airlines in their place more then a few times, "signed complaints or nothing" and there has to be a crime or the plane could sit on the tarmac forever for all we care.

Most of the guys on AVS are real good guys but they have a little crew who were going to force all of this no matter what, time and again. And their supervision encouraged it, even letting them go plain clothes and get all "Training Day". I'm kind of surprised it took so long for this to happen. To bad cause I'm retiring in a few years and it would have been a good job to have.

Answer: The downtown area and Mag Mile are ok during the day but once the sun goes down it gets dangerous. The savages are out looking for easy prey. Not sure what you mean by the "North Shore" but if you're talking about Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park I would stay away at night also. Lots of robberies and sexual assaults. And please stay off the CTA trains and buses and take a cab or Uber. There's a dark underbelly to this city that's not talked about in the mainstream news and it's getting worse.

Whose call was it? Who was the defense attorney? Who was the ASA? Who was the Judge? Where is the media on this? A PO gets charged with a crime and can't walk across California without a herd of media in his face and the story leading the newscast. This offender cost the city 10's of thousands of dollars in manpower and responding emergency personnel, unlawfully possessed a firearm (remember Foxx, Supt, and Rahm all complaining about lax gun laws and how we need to get tough) and then they drop charges. I am sure they dropped these charges because the police failed to do their job, always the scapegoat.

Unfuckingbelievable.

The pension is vested after ten years if you don't tap it. But the federal law (LEOSA) required 20 years service and you had to be collecting a pension. Then it was changed to 15 years, and finally 10. But at the beginning it was 20.

"Leave the airplane"

Guess what? You don't own the airplane fool. If someone from the airline tells you to leave, you have leave, it is their plane, you are trespassing. That's the criminal part. The civil part is when he gets a refund from the airline. It's not that hard. They should have told the airline to sign a complaint or get fucked but it doesn't change the fact that it was criminal. Class dismissed. I

It's not trespassing when you pay for a ticket and that payment has been accepted. Add the fact you are given a pass to board and your ass is already in the seat. It was unequivocally a customer service issue and any CPD officer would have figured that out. Let's just say for argument sake that it was criminal trespass, shouldn't he have been cuffed as part of his arrest status? He wasn't, because he was not in custody. There were good reasons for this: Department of Aviation security officers DO NOT have powers of arrest and these goofs were acting on the misconception that their demands to leave and his denial to comply was enough to permit them to go hands on. Wrong! They unwittingly acted as bouncers for the airline, while having no clue (due to zero training and zero experience) of the legal aspects and ramifications. Had these goofs not over stepped their authority, none of this would have happened, the doc would have his nose and teeth intact and United would not have a lawsuit and viral media nightmare to contend with.

Oh for fuck sake.
United's own 32,000 word contract specifies all the conditions. It's the ticket.
The guy fulfilled all of his obligations - violated nothing.
He paid, cleared security. He was set.
United boarded him. No violation of rule 25.
He behaved well. No violation of rule 21.
Now guess what, idiot, there's no legal basis to throw him out. NONE.
And just because 'somebody from the airline' says something, it doesn't necessarily mean shit.
Trespassing???? On what legal basis is 'someone from the airline' going to sign the complaint? There isn't one. NONE. ZERO.
720 ILCS 5/21-2 which is the applicable Illinois statute requires that you 'knowingly and without authority enter(s) any part of or operate(s) (the vehicle). He had authority to enter and to be where he was. Period.
And oh...that's right...they didn't sign a complaint did they? Ever wonder why, genius?
Guess what. Because there was no criminal action - no legal basis to allege trespassing. That's why.
Goddamn.
Stay away from law enforcement. Far away.
