Great Job Maldonado

It was a brilliant idea to not only allow beer and wine at the PR fest, but also distilled spirits this year. What could possibly go wrong?
  • Thousands of revelers descended on Humboldt Park for this weekend's Puerto Rican Festival and Parade — but the weekend also saw an uptick in shootings, including one that left a 33-year-old man dead.

Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) did not respond to requests for comment on the violence, but said in a statement that he'd spoken to Kevin Navarro, the first deputy superintendent for Chicago Police, "to express my deep concern about the recent increase" in crime in the area.

Maldonado said he told Navarro police staffing had dropped in the area, and that there was a "clear need" for more police.
Shootings nearly doubled. The number shot tripled.

The first rule about "manpower" is that you don't mention "manpower." Ever.

Second, are you dense? You've been approving the budget for how long? You've seen the closing of how many police stations? The disbanding of how many units? The cutting of over 1,200 budgeted police positions? And suddenly you see a "clear need"?

Tell us, what was your first clue? Was it this?

Because that was all weekend from what we heard, even if the lame-stream media didn't cover it. DNAInfo did, and they're the only ones doing any real reporting lately.

Maybe they'll pick up on your desire to drive over crime scenes soon?

Can someone please tell me what exactly this shit show of a fest is for? I asked several people of Puerto Rican decent, both civilian and CPD. The most common answer was "I'm celebrating the Isla yo". But most of the people I asked simply didn't have an answer. I guess what I'm trying to get at is. why doesn't the city just shut it down for good? But I think we all know the answer to that question.

Just erect a 12ft fence around the park with signs in English and Spanish stating that "What happens in the park stays in the park". Kind of like the Vegas motto. Police and fire will only be dispatched to protect the vendors. All others enjoy the festivities. What happens when the gentrification of the Humboldt area takes place and there are no more PRs living there? Will the white urban pioneers then be accused of culturally appropriating the holiday?

This ain't shit...I the 90's you couldn't even drive by that parade without catching a bullet, fist, knife or robbery. While this is horrible I remember it being MUCH worse. BUT with that shooting caught on video last year on division and Campbell and now this it looks like it's def heading back in the direction of the old ways.

This is what happens when you have no manpower! Get use to it. 014th district has low manpower and 012th district, well let's just say when the brain trust merged the two districts 012,013, manpower was about 525, now 269. So who really loses? The people!

This city is about to explode with violence and you have clueless police brass admitting personnel levels have dropped. Several politicians are asking for more police service in their wards due to increased violence. Now you have Ferguson telling all the coppers everything is legit just do your job. And now news the pension will be broke by 2020, that's three years. Good luck motivating the troops! Somebody better step up an address this shit before you have huge numbers of coppers hitting IOD and medical. In case you forgot you have a big weekend coming up. Let the killings begin...

I went to a fest in another state. All types of food and booze. Music. GASP I even saw open carry. I didn't see any cops although I'm sure there were a couple. No fights, batteries, robberies, mayhem, or shootings. People said excuse me, thank you, and were for the most part polite. I felt like I was on another planet. I just can't figure out what the difference is....

More police for the area? From where? We're short all over. And isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Navarro telling YOU we need more police? You approve budgets, not him.

I count four separate trr's from the incident. ISR's are stupid and I don't think they should be done because they are only useful to a lawyer scum anti American looking for money. But alas 4 should be completed and every supervisor or every rank needed this fight on his log because it's in the park. So if not 4 ISR's then there is hell to pay.

There are food pantries everywhere, so people are able to eat if they are willing to go get the food and not depend entirely on food stamps. America should at least be able to feed their poor or those temporarily unable to feed themselves because of employment problems or bad health.

If you were to tell me that was 1986, I would believe you.
Nothing changed in Humbo-Park since, even transplant snowflakes are leaving...again.

If Maldo had a discussion then it makes sense that the 'seasoned gang specialist' K-N doesn't want a mention of manpower shortages.
Promise made, promise to be kept. Sick Ed is going to create a permanent opening soon.

Crooked Maldo'nado and his real estate team came in way after the late 80's gentrification, yet he is making money hand over fist like it's 1990 all over again. As long as he votes with Rahm and Louie GutterRAT and they get their share, it's all good.
Petty squabbles by a very festive people, since there's no guns it's not a crime to be overly festive...
Touhy-Herbert Park included.
Good thing no festival participant was hurt or otherwise the instigating, disruptive police would be sued.

I respect you officers.

Please do us law abiding taxpayers and not the ghetto trash a favor, please.

Patrol our safe areas where we support you and welcome you with a wave or head nod as you drive by.
We want your help, we are not the ghetto trash trying to git the lottery by cathcing you in a predicament on our cellphones.

We respect you, its a shame you dont patrol our areas because we need you. The trash is moving in and walking through our areas bringing their crime with them.

Wouldnt common sense(sorry there is none in shitcago under rahm) say that you should patrol the most in the areas contributing the highest totals towards taxes in the not support those that actually pay and not takers and leeches in the city and state?

Why keep going to the same ghetto trash places where you meet all this trouble? Even if i was in the zoo, I know how to behave because Im an adult.

Oh, and fuck you rahm.

They need to add 1500-1800 coppers to the districts. They then need to make a citywide unit again that people with only 5 years or more can go to. Condense gang enforcement into one unit again and one building. Keep the saturation teams as is. Have your gang enforcement teams focus on search warrants, buys and working with detective shooting and homicide teams. Have one Fbi, atf or dea agent assigned to each gang team to facilitate federal prosecutions of good cases and get CIs paid. Have your 400-500 man citywide team do the sos/msf/tru type mission and saturate areas of shootings. Put them on 10 hour days and have a couple dozen saturate hotspots south and west. Along with sat teams, gang teams and tact teams CRIME WILL GO DOWN!! I'm not even saying you have to light the world on fire with arrests, just some proactive visibility and work will send crime down.

Come on, please ! This was nothing. I worked that fest all through the 90's. This years was downright enjoyable. We used to have to follow groups of gang bangers through the park calling out the zones they were walking to. Exhausting !

Hope that would work, but realistically manpower isn't going to make the difference. It would be great for us because of datYs off, more backup available, etc
Think about it. Like a week ago the CPD was touting no shootings in a 24 hour period. That was great but in the next 1 hour period there were 3 separate shootings. During all this time the same manpower but for some reason conditions weren't right, gang rivalries whatever that kept the fools from shooting
