- Baltimore's police union expressed their frustration on Wednesday that the city doesn't have a plan to crack down on crime.
The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) issued a release that unleashed searing criticism toward the city for not really doing anything after FOP warned about the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) being "critically understaffed" as crime soared in the city.
"In reaction to this surge in violence, and in particular the recent six homicides in a 24-hour period, Police Commissioner Kevin Davis cancelled leave and placed our officers on 12 hours of duty in order to stem the violence," the release stated. "This, however, is merely a stopgap measure and not a long-term plan of action, a plan to fight crime that the Baltimore Police Department still doesn't have in place."
The release added that stretching out the understaffed police's hours has caused the officers to be "fatigued and morale continues to decline."

I heard on the news yesterday that BPD don't even have computers in their cars. That's pretty pathetic. Just goes to show how much their mayor and other politicians actually care about the police and fighting crime.

Have you ever actually been to Detroit? For that matter, have you even been in downtown Chicago in the past few years? Detroit is a city that has a few safe blocks in which you can safely walk around, and they've literally had to raze entire neighborhoods of houses because there were only a few people living in them. They eliminated those neighborhoods so they could stop providing services to those sparsely populated neighborhoods.
I can think of at least 12 huge apartment and condo buildings that are either being built, or were built in the last year. There's a huge residential project planned for the lakeshore east neighborhood. The Chicago river is being transformed from Kinzie to Fullerton. Don't forget about the continued transformation of the west loop, humbolt park and Logan Square. There's tons of money for the city to properly fund pensions, but the city doesn't know how to properly budget. Chicago may be a tale of two cities, but it's not Detroit.

I don't know why -- actually I do -- but lately when I read articles like this from Baltimore and all the one's right in good old Rahmistan with Tiny Dancer & Special Ed pontificating for the news media about the gang violence being "unacceptable" and how it sickens them, and blah, blah, blah.
