Raise Those Taxes!

  • With the state on the cusp of a catastrophic credit downgrade, the Illinois House on Sunday voted to end the historic budget drought by passing a long-awaited spending plan and seeking to pay for it by hiking the income tax rate to 4.95 percent.

But nothing is ever easy when it comes to patching up a political feud between two of the state’s most powerful men: Democratic Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Rauner’s administration on Sunday night said he’d veto both measures as soon as they hit his desk, should the Illinois Senate concur with the House on Monday. The administration also advised that members of the General Assembly “shouldn’t go anywhere.”
Madigan is such an asshole. We certainly hope the FOP is adjusting pay raises proposals upward so that we can afford to live in this rapidly emptying city.

There is no other way around this mess other than to declare bankruptcy. The pensions were a fucking bad idea. The math never added up. How can a person only contribute 100k but withdraw over a million? Then on top of that, if you take a gig for only a few weeks you can triple your pension. Or take a gig for even a day? But with the state constitution no one could make changes. So you have employees retiring at 50, taking another gig with another pension and really cashing out. There should have been limits to begin with. When the contributions from the city were not made, what happened to the lawsuits? Why the pension holidays, why allow borrowing from the pension funds? Why are the experts at managing the funds still being paid but the returns are shit? But lets blame this on EBT users not paying soda tax. We all are going to pay for this mess.

My question is what is happening to the money that has been pouring in to the state since the last budget. They haven't stopped collecting the current taxes and aren't paying out on many obligations. I would think that the interest earned should be more than enough to negate the need for a tax hike. I would think it might even be enough once a budget is passed to move us out of the red and back into the black...

Its the Madigan way of crooked politics, raise the taxes paid by the people and then blame the people. That is why the city and state is so broke and screwed up. If he had to run a business he would have been broke and in a gutter in his first year. but when you have an endless tax payers piggy bank to take from, it eventually runs out. It is not the fault of the workers nor their pensions, it is the fault of thieving politicians like Madigan and the stupid voters that keep him in office. He is not for the middle class and the unions, he destroyed them. Get in the real world people.

AH HA!

Finally the light bulbs are coming on!

The entire government has been taking in record amounts of tax revenue, if it's not being spent to pay the bills then where is it being stashed...???

We do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem...

If any of us (& some do sadly) ran our households like the government we'd be flat broke & in bankruptcy...

The talk of this money is also of going "to the children", aka the teachers union.

And they continually turn out failed products.

MADigan is such a world class ass-wipe. A couple days ago, Madigan said the credit rating agencies need to give him ENOUGH time to come to an agreement. Enough time? Fuck you, Mike, you've had two fucking years!

And what a great plan he came up with. Everyone except Chicago gets a property tax freeze, so they're a winner. Madigan gets to keep his lucrative law practice handling property tax appeals, so he's a winner. And who takes it in the shorts? Anyone who owns real estate in Chicago.

The Democratic party used to be the party of the working class people. Now it is only the party of the coastal elites. People like us in the middle of the country are only chumps to be tapped for our tax dollars, so the Democrats can continue to fund failed social policies in an effort to buy votes.

Call the next case. Not a cop.

When you have politicians in positions of power for 30+ years, not paying the ALLOTTED pension money in, stealing it for other nefarious reasons, catering to their friends and family with sweetheart deals, this is what you get.

Again Madigan playing chicken without regard for anyone else. He adjourned on the 30th saying he was close to a deal that included the Governors reforms. Then Sat they come back at 11am and he lets them go without a vote 2 hours later. Then Sunday the bill they put up for a vote is JUST THE TAX INCREASE. No reforms. That's why the governor is vetoing. I can't even express my utter disgust at Madigan for thinking his political win is more important than the bankruptcy of this state. And of course the media is telling none of the facts of why the Gov is vetoing. Today they are running ads on TV that say the gov is comfortable while you suffer -call him. Disgusting.

Seriously, it is time to vote OUT every single incumbent and start over.....
7/04/2017 09:02:00 AM

Given that, here in the county of crooks, city of shitheads and state of slime balls...:

1. There are no republicans/conservatives/actual Americans currently enthroned as our "duly elected representatives".....

2. The game of politics is thoroughly fixed and all means considered as normal have been voided......by the usual suspects using the proven effective methods.....

3. Thus, normal methods of voting will fail....

Soooooooooo......mathematics is the only method that has even a miniscule possibility of, as you observed the dire need for, ousting the incumbent scum....

To wit:

Step 1: Identify incumbent on ballot

Step 2:

If incumbent is listed FIRST on ballot, then vote for whoever is listed LAST

OR

If incumbent is NOT listed FIRST on ballot, then vote for whoever IS listed FIRST

This is simple elimination formula to oust incumbents, whether in party primary or general elections. It only requires a sufficient quantity of citizens to apply it.

It does not require the same thinking of the voter that has been successfully manipulated by the political scam artists for decades.

It does require the voter to decide that ousting incumbents is the first step in regaining control of our state, county and city governments.

First you kick the fuck out of the anthill, then you watch them scatter, then you get to work on laying those patio pavers.......

Chicago’s tax on disposable bags is celebrating its sixth month anniversary — and not bringing in as much cash as the city had hoped.

Chicago aimed to raise $9.2 million from the 7-cents-a-bag fee in its first year. As of collection on June 18, the tax has raised nearly $2.4 million in the nearly five months since it took effect; that leaves it well off the mark, said Molly Poppe, a spokesperson for the city’s Department of Finance.

This was a no brained. It is going to be worse under Preckwinkle's soda tax. Not only will the projected income from the soda tax be lower than expected, but it will lower the revenue from gasoline taxes. Taxes on groceries, retail shopping tax, restaurant, etc because when chicagoans leave the city to buy soda, they will also do the mentioned shopping outside the county. How can politicians be so stupid

In half an hour, I'm heading outside the city to buy groceries. I'll be spending at least $150, getting normal grocery bags (not the half-size ones Jewel is now using, to profit further from the tax), paying nothing extra for bottled water, then I'll buy gas (though I usually gas up outside of Cook county, not just outside the city).

This will cost me maybe fifty cents in gas and an extra 12-15 minutes in travel time, but the store is nicer, the staff is nicer, the patrons are nicer... Getting closer every day to selling the home that's been in our family for sixty years and leaving this God-forsaken state.
