Nice Bike Program Rahm

Divvy bikes still disappearing at a rate that would amaze even Houdini:
  • On July 12, after multiple reports of stolen cycles on social media (and five days of me pushing for answers from the bike-share network and the Chicago Department of Transportation, which oversees the program), Divvy finally sent me a statement acknowledging that it had experienced "a recent series of thefts from stations." I was assured that it was "retrofitting all [its] docks with stronger, more tamper-proof lock mechanisms."

But as more people have learned how to remove the blue bikes from their docks illegally, the theft problem seems to have only gotten worse. [...]

In late August the crime blog CWB Chicago reported that, while there were only seven adult arrests for possession of stolen Divvies during the first half of 2018, there was a massive spike in arrests this summer, with 120 cases between July 1 and August 16 alone.
How bad is it?
  • Luc Sabbatini, the CEO of PBSC, fired back that the Divvy program had been mismanaged. "The Chicago situation is unique to Chicago," he wrote. "We do not have issues with missing bikes anywhere else, including Brazil, which could be the toughest market in the world. As of August 26th we only have seven bikes missing for a long period within all our systems around the world, when the number is over 500 in Chicago alone!"
So 507 bikes missing world wide....and 500 of those are in Chicago? Someone somewhere is making a whole shitload of money off the taxpayers for this debacle.

Can we get a "Consent Decree" on the "community"

How much money do ya wanna bet that the demographics
of the bike thieves is WAAAYYY out of proportion to their

I have the answer to this stolen Divy problem, and the answer is the City should get rid of Divy’s, and get Jump Bikes instead. With Jump you don’t need a bike rack because the bikes won’t work without the App, and your App win’t Work without a credit card. Problem solved. Ditch Divy because taxpayers shouldn’t be in the bicycle business, and Jump Bikes are a much better solution.

CPS bought STEM programs that included distilled water at $36.00 a Gallon, electronic balance that only read to whole number no decimals, microscope that couldn't focus, etc..

Chicago is the land of broken toys. Any charlatan becomes a millionaire in this place. Peddling garbage that no one else buys. Everything from high school programs, to police reform mumbo bullshit to crap bikes, meters, cameras, bullet detectors, blue boxes.

Cupich the idiot really supports his priests who do the right thing:

Flag-burning priest in hiding to avoid being committed, ‘tarred and feathered’
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/flag-burning-priest-kalchik-hiding-cupich-catholic-church-lgbtq/

Excerpt:
In his first public comments since Cardinal Blase Cupich removed him as pastor of Resurrection Catholic Church — recorded at an “undisclosed location” — the Rev. Paul Kalchik told the conservative Catholic news website Church Militant that Cupich dispatched two of his top deputies last Friday to take him away from the church at 3043 N. Francisco.

They said] ‘Pack your bags now and we’ll make certain that you get to St. Luke’s safely and get locked up for a number of months,’ ” Kalchik said, referring to the Saint Luke Institute, a mental-health facility in Maryland for the clergy.

When Kalchik refused to leave, he says the two deputies — Cupich’s vicars for priests — threatened to call the police to have him “forcibly removed.”

“And I don’t know how that would have played out, because we already had all these volunteer policemen there to make certain I wouldn’t be tarred and feathered by the rabid homosexualists of the North Side of Chicago, you know, who are [sending me] death threats,” Kalchik said.

*this reeks of Nazi germany techniques yet flaky can do whatever he wants and nothing happens this priest follows the Bible and he is going to be locked away and probably drugged up, Catholic Church another reason to flee and fast!

What a scam! The city owns the bikes, and pays for replacements of stolen/damaged bikes, and Divvy/Lyft gets paid to manage the program. No wonder they can't be arsed to do anything much about stolen bikes - it doesn't affect them. They even get PAID to replace those bikes. Why stop bike theft when you can instead profit from it?

A paragraph from the article below, explains the stolen Divvy bikes clearly. It's called D4E, a program to expand the bike-sharing into black & brown neighborhoods. The city has been promoting the bike-share program on the south & west side. A one-time $5 annual membership, no credit card required. They're practically giving them away........

https://chi.streetsblog.org/2018/01/12/top-divvy-rider-kerdia-roland-pedaled-6275-miles-in-2017/

"The City has focused on expanding the bike-share system into more communities of color in an effort to address this imbalance. In addition, the Divvy for Everyone (D4E) initiative, which launched in summer 2015 and offers one-time $5 annual memberships to Chicagoans making less than $35,310 a year and waives the usual credit card requirement, is helping to level the playing field. The city has been promoting the program on the south and west sides via Divvy outreach staff and the Chicago Department of Transportation’s Bicycling Ambassadors, and there are currently 1,730 active D4E members.

However, low use of Divvy stations in Chicago’s black and brown neighborhoods recently emerged as a financial issue for the city. Last month the Chicago Tribune’s Mary Wisniewski reported that Divvy’s net income plummeted from $2.84 million in 2015 to $1.97 million in 2016, largely due to poor ridership numbers for recently installed stations in lower-income communities. For example, while the 36 stations in Lincoln Park saw a total of 452,727 trips between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017, the 14 stations in Austin saw a mere 1,339 trips during the same period."
