Ride the CTA Fred

Remember when Jane Byrne moved into Cabrini Green? Yeah, it was a stunt and she had plenty of protection, but it made her look "connected" to the people (or was it folks?) in Cabrini.

Numerous people have suggested that maybe Fred Waller and all the other exempts ought to give up their company cars for a month or two and ride the buses and rails to show everyone how safe it truly is.

Maybe they could do it in uniform. Sure, it'd be a stunt, but they're (supposedly) the police, and it might reinstall confidence that crime isn't out of control on the platforms and tunnels.

We suggest Fred starts with the Red Line.....it runs right by HQ.

Wasn’t the Mercy Hospital shooting a “targeted attack?” How about the LA night club, Florida night club, Florida high school, all targets of attack.

Oh Fred, you are such a silly goose. Get out of your car and ride the red line.

Let all the exempt turn in their chariots, but not just for a month. In private industry, they wouldn't get free use of a car and gas, and they would have to be productive besides. A public sector boss is just a drain on already stretched resources. They can have take home cars only when all public pensions are fully funded and taxes have been cut by two thirds. We would simply have to cut all the fat, unnecessary assistants and coat holders, and all the give away programs that assures the votes of the simpletons that perpetuate the pillaging of society by the multigenerational political royalty. TERM LIMITS! I'd rather it came from ballot than bullet, and they are the historic choices of change. I'll get off my soapbox now.

SCC this is a great idea. It should start with the Mayor, yea Rahm was riding the Brown Line for a few stops for show. His detail guys would be with him shielding him from any contact with the peasants and the motorcade would parallel the train in case he got the heebie jeebies. You know they have that underground parking lot under the Daley Center for the nobility. Open that up for public parking and make some money and close it to politicians. If fact all the politicians like JB, Preckwinkle, Foxx, Burke, the City Council and political department heads should be riding the CTA. What's really ironic is that the bigwigs at the CTA all have cars even though they have CTA ID cards which allow them to ride free. As for the CPD exempts should ride to work on the CTA, they can then use their exempt car, which will be kept at their unit of assignment. What better way for these hundreds of special people to connect with the lowly citizens they are supposed to serve. And don't trust any of them make them bring in bus/train checks of the routes they ride. Also throw in some positive citizen interaction contacts as the public would love to talk with them.

I've always espoused that all of these hotshot, supercop exempts who demand more activity from their troops, should form some tactical teams made up of themselves and hit the high crime areas on nights and weekends and see what kind of activity they can produce. Especially those who you see on the news reports that have so much fruit salad adorning their chests that you'd think they have the beginnings of a quilting bee on their chests. Maybe they could do a better job on Michigan Avenue with these roving bands of playful youths, you know, the ones wh are 'just funnin'.

Can you imagine the security you would need? And the costs to CTA? First special parking would need to be arranged. Then an entire station would have to be repaired and cleaned. Then a few cars would have to be repaired and deep sanitized. The media would need to see the city only at its normal outstanding level of service. Cops would be stationed everywhere in the immediate area in shiny uniforms for the hour or so. Then the post event media event would need a good media location. Crime stats showing “crime is down” would need to be prepared.

Hey SCC, love your blog...this is a bit out of context but I just remembered that our Mayor is suppose to be making a statement regarding an amendment to our state constitution. Dec 12 he will mention his plan to reduce the cost of living raise of 3% yearly for all retirees to 2% and adding the 1% to the pension. Let them ride the bus with a group of wilding teens who have never been mannered. Let them wait in the bus shelters with a sleeping homeless person. Maybe the homeless guy will share his Malt Liquor with them. Show them the best place to score a rock in the tunnels.

Riding from Hermitage, 4000 North, is a very long distance to the University of Chicago Lab School, Rahm, never let His Kids take that ride. The Flaming Tutu's children were daily chauffeured by Chicago Police detailed to protect the Mayor and his family. So why is anyone from the Police Department, or any City official trying to bullshit the public. IF THE CTA WAS SAFE, EXEMPT AND ELECTED OFFICALS WOULD LET THEIR CHILDREN RIDE IT TO THE PRIVATE OR PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS MOST OF THEIR KIDS ATTEND; BUT THEY DO NOT. The CTA has virtually NO police coverage, and as I have stated before, this is the legacy of Mumbles Daley and Huberman. They based the camera strategy on the London subway system; pretending that crime in Shitcaga is like crime in London. Shitcaga felons are armed, and not always good shots. When we start to see the "leaders" in this City abandon Francis Parker, Ignatius and the elite Public Schools like Northside College Prep, and Peyton, for Public Schools, that they take the train and bus to attend; then we can believe what they are saying. Until then, as usual; they are lying and full of shit! Stay Strong. Baby "G"

OT:
Since gift buying, and spending money, is in full swing perhaps now is a good time to remember the following:
The family and children of OFFICER JVD.
The family and children of OFFICER SAMUEL JIMENEZ.
OFFICER JOHN ZOOK who lost everything in a house fire.
If there are others please forgive me for not mentioning them, it is my lack of memory not their lack of worthiness, that excludes them.
We are not qualified to question why the Lord works the way He does, but perhaps it is because He knew people like us would step up and extend our helping hands.
Or perhaps it is to teach our children and grandchildren that we, they, could be the Santa Claus to some people by giving a few dollars or the price of a small toy to those who lost more than most of us, by the Grace of His Will, will ever know.
It's an awesome responsibility to be asked to help and I, speaking for no one but myself, don't want to be the one who on Judgement Day explains why I couldn't give a few dollars because I spent that money on yet another overpriced cup of coffee or a large instead of small bag of fries.
If this is inappropriate please remove with my apologies, if it is not - please consider passing it along.
Thanks.

It is said the tone of an organization is set at the top. Maybe the Chief of Patrol Waller can don a body cam and perform some post shooting missions for an hour or so in the tubes. His actions, demeanor and his styles can all be scrutinized just like the blue shirts from the lowest rung of the police ladder namely, those condemned to career in the Bureau of Patrol.

Maybe the top guy from the Chief of Patrol can do some of those ACLU Investigatory Stop (ISR) type reports. Lets see if he even understands the ACLU mandated requirements for reasonable articulable suspicion. Let him perform a patdown on camera recording his every action, his every utterance. Let him document on his ISR the patdown was performed for the protection of police officers and citizens alike.

Then he can have the review unit, with all their imaginary experience of writing ISR’s in the field, tell him his safety and the safety of the public must remain at risk when dealing with possibly armed habitual criminals in the field. Patdowns are not warranted nor authorized for officer safety by order of the inside ISR unit as dictated by the anti-police ACLU extremists. And have the ISR returned by the review unit down through the chain of command because they know the orders by extensive field experience as they conduct said review from the comfort of a desk in a cozy office somewhere.

Chief of Patrol Waller can then write Administrative Notices of Violations for ordinance violations during his mission for activity. All enforcement actions should be recorded on body cam and may require an ACLU ISR report. Remember, those reports were the product of collusion with elected public officials and their highest ranking legal staffs, the ACLU and a federal judge. Chief, when the bad guy starts mouthing off pushing your buttons with you’re a racist and you only pick on minority themes, lowly blue shirts can see how the bro-pro from Patrol handles this everyday played out B.S. setting that example.

The Chief of patrol should perform duties on the beat and put himself in the shoes of the police officer who actually does police work. It would be humbling for a member of the command staff to endure the nonsense beat officers have to put up with everyday. Next, try dealing with the queens from the ISR review unit who themselves have not written a single ISR.

After all Chief Waller, it does say “Chicago Police” on your uniform patch, doesn’t it? Chief Waller, you and your hardworking staff can take a walk on the wild side every so often and get woke. And maybe, just maybe, boost CPD morale! And more importantly restore public confidence in CPD and the overall confidence of citizens they will not be targeted by any future incidents as you have said.

Old Retired Guy Here, Again !!! Have to stick my two cents worth in on this one.
As I remember it. There was a time, not long ago, when the CTA required One Conductor for every three train cars. The Conductor's duties were to, collect fares, announce stops, watch for passengers boarding and exiting train cars, close train doors. They would also walk through train cars monitoring passengers activities. Now, the train operator does it "ALL".
Yes, I understand collecting fares is a obsolete task. My point is, why can't CTA bring back the Conductor's ? If there is a problem, they can, at least, radio it in, and the CPD can respond to the problem at the next stop. Hey, at least that's something.
Passenger Safety Should Be As Important As Budget !!!

Are you kidding me? Have a conductor on a train monitoring the passengers? Call it in. The CPD won’t put a po by himself on a train or in the subway and you want a conductor to do that After he calls who’s going to protect him?
Why not just put a single officer in random cars. Won’t have to call in the report, he or she can take action on the problem
Great idea if it was 1950.

I ride the train weekly and I rarely, if ever, see a police officer in the station or on the train.

don't be a dickhead. he was a go-getter as a blue-shirt, but being a worker as a grunt doesn't guarantee a well-rounded boss when the grunt gets promoted. They have to go to bosshole school and most times that does not even help.

Being a go-getter as a police officer is one thing, carrying on that behavior once you make lieutenant or above is entirely different. When to get to command officer rank you have to tow the company line or your career will be doomed. Saying someone went to bosshole school is pretty funny, but not true. You see, and fast, that if you want to rise in the ranks you do as you are told, do not make waves and parrot your commander. The problem is the aholes that actually run the department and make policy. The police department is run by city hall and they do not like waves.

Fred was the real police back in his days of 006 tact, and I doubt he would experience any problem on those trains that he could not handle. Just saying.”.........

Yes he was. And elsewhere. Fred took care of business. Some young people on this blog think that hating supervisors is a necessary part of the job, and they obsess over it.

OK, fair enough, you can hate them. But if you think Fred is too chicken shit to ride the Elevated, my guess is that you either have 15 minutes on the job, or you’ve been hiding in a hole yourself. I would ride with Fred any day of the week. He would be the first one in the door and the last one out.

FW and RJ. Still brings a smile to my old face.

Was shocked to see Sheriff David Clarke at Ellys on Milwaukee/Central having breakfast. Great guy and incredibly gracious with all the people wanting to talk to him. Said he was wrapping up a project at the 5150 N. Northwest Highway future housing project. Told us he's living by Soldier Field and looking forward to Bears/Rams game Sun night. Makes me wonder why he's up to? Maybe a Police Supt candidate for a new Mayor?

These many comments about Sheriff Clark “pop-ups” are starting to take on a “Where’s Waldo?” vibe. Either the guy gets around and is willing to tell his business to anyone who asks, or someone/s are trolling the blog.

As for becoming the next a Supt., only Vallas would do that. Vote accordingly.

From previously established, number-order eligibility lists, certain Police Officers, Sergeants and Lieutenants are ordered to attend training at the academy on a specific date and time in preparation for advancement to the positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, respectively. They stay there for weeks, sometimes a month or longer. The extended stay can be caused by a number of factors, none of which have to do with gaining a benefit from further training. That is bosshole school.
