In the beginning, if you had suggested this was a phony publicity stunt, perpetrated by two black offenders you would have been branded as a hater (fact) Add in all the national media attention who supported the "bad actor" and the gay community and you have quite the cocktail. We should be proud of our department as the truth is finally being exposed in the light it deserves.
I have seen the pressure CPD bossholes can put on an investigation. They can micromanage your cases and send you out on errands of minutiae seemingly interfering with said investigation. Remember, most detective supervisors were never detectives. All the media attention in the beginning would have vilified CPD for even investigating in this direction if they knew.
CPD, and the Detective Division put on a good show of Old fashion investigative work here. I'm sure technology helped here, but it all added up to what every cop suspected when there were more question that answers. Kudo's to all involved, and to CPD's finest management that had the balls to do a search warrant on the persons of interest house. I worked at the "off-site torture facility" for years. The only 'torture' was getting to that Godforsaken place from the North side. Specialized units such as Fugitives, Cold Case, and Financial Crimes were there, which is why prisoners were processed there, close to our offices. Believe me, they went to the 11th Dist. asap because we were constantly having to get on the elevator every time they had to go to the bathroom or had any other requests. Prisoners were fed with cops own money, while we didn't even have time to eat....some torture chamber. LOL.
