Five Cops Wounded in Aurora

  • Six people, including a gunman, died in a mass shooting at a manufacturing firm Friday afternoon, and five officers were struck by gunfire, officials said.

Authorities confirmed the shooter, Gary Martin, 45, was killed in a shootout with police. Police believe he was an employee at Henry Pratt Co. in the industrial park in the Chicago suburb, and said they did not know the motive.
Five victims didn't make it, but many others were saved by the police response.

God bless the victims, and best wishes for a speedy recovery of all the wounded, officers and workers.

Great job by APD and the assisting agencies. Did anyone notice that on FB and other social media that there was very little talk about this? Especially from your typical left leaning friends and pundits? I wonder why? Prayers to the families of the ones who were murdered and prayers to the officers for a quick recovery.

Of course the evil gun was at fault not the community member that pulled the trigger on what probably was an illegal gun. Cannot believe that Fox 32 had a picture of shooter on their wed site. So now the police shooting black man march can begin. Oh that's right this happened in Aurora so maybe no march or ghetto lottery law suit.

Big prayers to those recovering, all families and friends in this terrible time, and the souls who’s life’s were shortened. May God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and his angel’s hold everyone in their arms.

Prayers legislators wake up and realize guns don’t have a brain, people do and they’re sometimes terribly defective with help needed. If warehouse employees weren’t law abiding, someone might have stopped this tragedy before it began. Every time you see a no gun sign, you’re entering a human target zone. Stop frequenting those establishments and demand self protection rights.

God Bless the Police.

Your Dimwit Democrat JB “No Jobs” Prickster was phony and insincere at the press conference.
The liberals tried and are trying to politicize the gun issue.
Murder is murder.

The mentally unstable assailant was jobless and sought revenge in a manner that LIBERALS DEEM AS EXCUSABLE with their restorative justice practices. They simply do not prosecute gun and violent crimes according to the laws as written.
The reports say the maniac was denied a CCL, IL FOID and a purchase.
Unfortunately and maybe rightly so someone else may be culpable for the sale if it’s ever determined.

The local and State liberals will continue their crusade to make it impossible or extremely difficult for a law abiding citizen to own firearms and ignore the root issue.

What if the man had a job, what if the community had jobs JB, Durbin Duckworth, and Rahm?
What would that do for ones self esteem?
Not everyone wants your welfare plan JB.
What if Chicago, Cook Co Illinois didn’t tax the shit out of small businesses and manufacturing forcing them out of state?
If they didn’t promote this global economy bullshit?
JB doesn’t know - he never had to worry about work a day in his life.

Chicago Cook County Illinois doesn’t have a gun problem, it has a Democrat problem.

I watched the presser. He came into work carrying his weapon and opened fire immediately after being terminated. He knew what was coming and he planned it out.

He's got a felony in Mississippi that predates his IL FOID application, which ISP missed. It was only when he attempted to obtain a CCW that the felony conviction was discovered. The usual assholes in the peanut gallery tried to make hay out of that, and the PIO put the smackdown on that straight away.

This is a format for sending caring thoughts to our brothers & sisters. I get that we have been here too many times but the individuals and their families are beatup, grieving and lost in the cloud of pain. They need to know that CPD remembers each & every act of courage.

If we do not stand up for each other then we may as well call it a day.

on Friday the 15th, These two assholes was at some huggy feely socialist crap event called CRED, an anti violence movement by epic failing Obama boytoy Arne Duncan. Lots of babble about police accountability and helping gangbangers and ex cons find work. No talk about the mass rape and molestation of CPS students under Arnie Duncan's watch.
So what happens on the same day police are getting slapped around at this "CRED" anti violence event sponsored by Crain?
Four or five Aurora cops get shot. Five civilians are killed. By a gun toting criminal thug.
The same type of guy Arnie Duncan, Rahm Emanuel, Pritzker and their like called on employers to overlook their criminal backgrounds, especially felony convictions, and hire them.
How did that work out for that Aurora plant, guys?
Standby as Rahm and Pritzker uses this moment to push for mass outlawing , banning and seizure of the guns of honest owners.

Convicted felon with a permit? Article made it sound like permit issued after conviction. In any event his gun should have been taken away after conviction. This one is on the people that screwed up allowing access to gun. Another reason to allow guns in workspaces. Someone might have gotten him early. No gun zone do not work because the person intending harm will always ignore signs. Common sense, why is this so hard to understand? I always ignore signs unless metal sectors. Better safe than sorry. Also will not go into posted venues unless absolutely necessary.

The guy was already barred from possessing guns. He was convicted of a felony in 1995. However, the crack Illinois State Police didn't pick it up when the guy applied for an FOID in 2014. That's when he bought the gun he used. But when he went for a CCW, the ISP caught the felony and denied the CCW and revoked the FOID. I guess nobody thought it might be a good idea to check to see if he had bought any guns.

So the highly vaunted by liberals background check system didn't catch this guy when he bought the gun. Hmmm.... And we're supposed to give up our rights for it?

I was there and ourvteam was inside during the shootout. Intense situation. The place is huge and it was a needle in a haystack. He had the upper hand because he knew the building. My team and another team located him in the northeast corner of the main machine shop/warehouse building. He was hunkered down by pallets. The team to our right engaged him and exchanged shots. Repeating flash bangs went off and the noise was deafening. A lot of multi-jurisdictional police departments were there and we did a good job coordinating for what it was. Chaotic situation. It sucked walking over he dead but we had to find the shooter. He slaughtered those poor people. If you have never been in that situation, it’s not anything like training. Nothing can prepare you for the adrenaline you feel. The firefighters with us looked terrified and they had reason to be, they had nothing to protect them except us. It was fucked up. It will be a while before I get those images out of my head seeing those dead that I could not help.

The problem had many levels, those criticizing the ISP, blame Rauner, failure to staff the FOID section were well known. The lack of hiring has under his administration decimated all parts of the ISP. Try to call the phone number to the FOID section, it rings and rings because that Unit is horribly understaffed. Easy to see how this occurred that the shooter was able to slip through the cracks. As the previous troop posted, it was a large building, it was amazing the coordination between many agencies. We teamed up made up of groups from different agencies, went in isolated the shooter and stopped him. The images of the deceased laying in pools of blood will never leave our minds. Speedy recovery to our injured brothers and prayers to the families that lost loved ones.

Great job to all Illinois police officers involved in bringing this tragedy to a swift conclusion. We noticed that the news media all failed to mention the location was a "Gun Free Zone". Two things noted:

1) GFZ signs mean absolutely nothing to someone intent on committing murder (murder is already illegal, hence, no signs needed!); 4 of the 5 killed could possibly have been saved by a CCW, and 5 of 5 of the officers that were shot possibly would still be alright (Hint: Lawsuit against factory for posting the signs, but deliberate indifference in failing to provide adequate security after stripping away CCW rights to law abiding citizens who were there and- because they complied with the GFZ signage- were defenseless. Any good attorneys out there???

2) Nobody in media said anything about how they should prosecute officers for violating GFZ signs after the shooting started- that's when they WANT the police- and the guns- there. But until the tragedy occurs- after the fact- places like NFL stadiums, baseball stadiums PROHIBIT on duty, and both off duty and retired officers- from legally carrying their own protection.

All of you are true heroes and are appreciated each and every thankless day by the silent majority. Godspeed and a quick recovery to those injured officers!

Great job by the hero police! It had to be a nightmare to follow the trail of dead bodies in search of the shooter!
Even with tons of training, that has to be horrific!
I just have a couple of questions and an observation. In everything I read, there is no reason given for why the offender was being fired? Why did they have to delay the press conference for the governor’s arrival? What the heck did he have to do with it?
On the wgn news program, they couldn’t just make the responding Police heros and leave it. They had to say that, it still wasn’t determined if the Police killed the murderer, or he took his own life.....WTF!

Condolences to the families, friends and coworkers of the innocent victims.

The first ones accomplished entry right away, took the fire and did not give up. They forced the shooter off attack and into a defensive posture, the coward that he was. It was well handled by the local police. The chief did a good job at the Saturday news conference and we are proud and with renewed confidence in everyone.

John D. - The reason the ISP didn't pick up was because no fingerprint is required for the FOID card. When he applied to the CCW, his prints had to be submitted.

I know this is late to post but God bless all the brave LEOs that ran towards gunfire. Thankfully no death but, unfortunately, there is sure to be life-altering injuries. I also pray for the victims. Generally speaking, citizens at a job site are just making a living, they deserve no violence as they are innocent and chose a life that doesn’t require them to be a victim of violent crime nor to react with violence when necessary. That is another reason why these mass shootings piss me off so much; because some pussy wants to use a weapon and go after soft, unsuspecting targets. That’s just cowardly and pathetic.

Again, job well done to our fellow LEOs that responded, you guys were amazing.

ps: To the IL State Trooper who was at the scene in Aurora yesterday and posted what he experienced, THANK YOU!

No need to thank me. I just wanted to share what I experienced. I have never experienced that and I know many other officers never will so I wanted to try to explain the best I could what it felt like. Complete and utter chaos that we tried to sort out. I’m just happy we found him relatively quickly and without any other officers getting hurt. The potential was there to have more of us injured but the good lord watched over us. That experience will forever be with me. All in all, pay attention in these types of training scenarios, it pays off. Training is the only thing we have that may give us the upper hand. I never thought I’d be in an active shooter situation, prepare and hopefully you’ll never need it.

SCC, May I also post a second comment? I just posted but didn’t read the comments first. After reading comments from officers that were present, I wish I could’ve posted the below instead.

Regarding the following LEOs who were there, two of them posted the following:

“ It will be a while before I get those images out of my head seeing those dead that I could not help.

And...

“The images of the deceased laying in pools of blood will never leave our minds.”

First, you are both heros. I know it sounds cliche but please consider this: you put your safety, life and mental well-being aside and rushed to stop an evil monster. Fear, adrenaline, even hesitation and negative reflection of your performance is normal but it IS NOT a negating factor that what you did is heroic and exceptional. Rather than think of the loss of life, think that if you and your brothers did not respond, the carnage would have continued. You saved many more lives; lives that were lost BECAUSE OF YOUR ACTIONS. You did not commit an act of evil. You would do anything to stop it. That is heroic and commendable.

I have been on similar scenes, but you have to clear before even rendering aid to a wounded person, this is just the way it is. You know that so don’t ever think you were wrong or could’ve done it differently. The worst for me was responding to scenes of kids shot in crossfire incidents. I admit that I cried when I got home and thought, “why couldn’t I be there to stop this?” While praying I realized that we do not decide man’a actions nor do we know man’s intent. All we can do is act, with violence if necessary, to achieve resolution. I’m not saying God gave me the answers to my sorrow/guilt for not saving people, but it sure feels like it.

I hope my words can help you cope, even a little. If not and if you are ever struggling, remember to talk about it; EAP or whatever you call your mental health support team. Talk to family, friends and other cops, troopers, Sheriffs, etc. Even though I’m CPD, I would help any LEO that needed it. Just know you are never alone and you did the right thing!!!
