Radio Tribute?

An e-mailer writes to us:
  • Since there can be no visitation or services [for Officer DiFranco] at this time, how about if Monday at 1030 hours, all personnel stop what they're doing for a moment of silence and raise a slow salute so he has some sort of recognition?
We've seen other departments do something similar and we know Citywide has occasionally asked for a break in radio traffic as a remembrance on the anniversary of other Officers' deaths.

Hopefully this is done in the near future, especially as a full honors funeral seems to not be possible.

This is a good idea. Could we maybe to get dispatch to do this (even briefly) once late cars come on for each watch?

The city did the right thing by making this a LOD. We'll see if they continue for every officer who dies, and sadly, there will be more. Along with family members.

I'm retired, and retired bitter about the job. But I am proud of you guys still going out there and protecting us anyway despite this Chinese plague all over the place.

Thank you for protecting my family thru this.

All great ideas. Hope the public joins in. Many will. Announce the streets the funeral procession will be traveling and you might be surprised by the reaction.

Yesterday my partner and I did a “drive by” outside a funeral home in 024 to say our last goodbye to an old friend that has terminal cancer...she was a teacher and wife. There were well over 200 vehicles that drove past her hone while she sat in her wheelchair. We all know no one would be able to attend her funeral and this was a way for everyone to say goodbye. It was bittersweet with most cars decorated by her former students and showing their love by decorating their cars for her. Why can’t the department do this with full honors...no one has to get close and his family would very much like to see that he was not forgotten. RIP brother.

Sorry for your recent loss, CPD. Just read it's declared a LODD, I'm relieved for his family.

There was a similar 'radio silence' tribute to the late Cmdr. Paul Bauer on the anniversary which was well accepted.
Either way, there can never be enough of gratitude to be shown "Our Finest!"
Rest in Peace our brother.

As of today we have about 60 plus officers on medical for flu like systems and out these 60 plus officers, 12 to 15 officers tested positive for covid19 in the narcotics section in Homan, I haven't seen any action from 35th nor City hall if they have any plan to disinfect Homan Square. We are still coming to work and are they expecting us to be superhuman who are immune to covid19. This is the same place were our beloved Marco worked, God Bless his soul. Do the city expect all of us there to follow him to his grave? WTF.

All stations need to have spray bottles of disinfectant and rags in every part of the station. two bottles at the front desk, two bottles in processing rooms, one in the lock up, one or two in the tac office etc etc. The only people who have spray bottles are the janitors and they do the type of job that they are paid to do... the city getting the lowest bidder. It would be nice to come into work and be able to spray and wipe down an area where im at weather its in the roll call room, at the desk using a computer, a computer in a hallway, using the copy machine etc etc. It would help drastically if we have constant access to these bottles because I know that I along with almost every other copper would utilize them numerous times a day thus helping the station stay clean and less chances of catching it in the stations. Its great seeing some of the janitors just do a single spray on a long stretch of desk or counter and half ass wipe it while they talk on their blue tooth. Did any of you know, or the cleaning company that spraying and instant wiping usually doesn't do much?? The product needs to sit on the surface depending what the product is. Bleach/water combo needs to sit on a surface for 4-6 minutes before being wiped away to break down the outer layer of a viral cell. that's how the cleaners and hand sanitizers work. they make contact with the outer layer of the cell, break down that layer or "shell" and then the virus BEGINS to die... not die instantly. If the contact time with the virus is not long enough you can damage it or not effect it at all. If its damaged three things can happen. One is that it could be ineffective after it enters your body and eventually die. Two, nothing happens and its still alive and well to infect. And three, the "coding" inside of the cell and structure can be altered and still effective causing a slight mutation in the virus. Alcohol sanitizer takes about 7-15 seconds to completely break the shell of coronavirus... however, alcohol hand sanitizers are ineffective against some viruses such as norovirus. These janitors need to be taught how to use the particular disinfectants they are being supplied. Its more than likely that they need sit for a short amount of time before getting wiped. Lysol needs to sit on surface for at least 20 seconds to be effective enough to break the shell of covid. Give us the bottles and put an instructional sign up on how to effectively clean with the product. I wasn't always a cop... learn from this information.

Will be standing with you over here in Florida.

I watched live PD tonight. Got to give a shoutout to Dan Abrams who tried very hard to get a straight answer from the surgeon general about PPE's for the police. Sadly the Dr's response was completely pathetic & inadequate.

Since the city has declared this a LODD, then anyone who has contracted the disease while working; should be placed on IOD and not the medical as they recover. The city has taken on the responsibility of covering all of your medical bills by the classification of a COVID-19 as duty related.

What are you talking about? Taking on the responsibility of covering all your medical bills by the classification. The city pays all your medical bills whether it’s medical or IOD. The city is self insured and pays all medical bills. BC/CS just administers the self insured program. The IOD bills go they the Finance Committee for approval of payment. Either way the city pays

You forgot a few things the city doesn’t pay, copays, deductibles and out of pocket costs. They also control how much you pay for tests if not at approved vendors. Lower pay for procedures done at hospitals, and not clinics, etc... you have to use the proper tiers. Keeping track of what you owe is sometimes harder to deal with then the illness.

Heard Prickwrinkle interviewed on Sunday morning radio. I can’t believe anyone with a brain cell voted for her. She went through the usual list of people that she thanked for lowering the jail population. She sure is proud of her accomplishments, other then taxes and reducing the population of the county. It’s something to be proud of if you are a liberal SJW and have your own security detail.
