Not a Bright Idea

How long do you think it will be before someone gets beaten with one of these chairs?

  • The Chicago Park District will debut 100 green metal chairs around Buckingham Fountain Saturday as part of a new pilot program that takes a cue from European cities like Paris and encourages people to socialize in the lakefront park.

But having somewhere to sit comes with a price tag.

The 100 chairs, which were manufactured by the brand Fermob in Paris, cost $54,438 in total, according to a Park District spokesperson. Of that, $24,438 was footed by the city. Lollapalooza, which partnered on the project and will host its 21st festival in Grant Park July 30-Aug. 2, paid the remaining $30,000.

In a statement, the Park District said, “the seating program will transform the space and encourage social gathering.” The movable chairs will be in the park until September, except, the city says, during major events hosted in Grant Park, although it did not specify which events would prompt chair removal.

Unless they're going to fix these chairs in place with rebar and concrete pads, it'll be a few days, tops.

Along with the betting on when someone will get beaten with a chair, how long until the first chair:

  • gets tossed in the fountain?
  • gets tossed in the lake?
  • gets tossed in the river?

Our guesses?

  • a couple hours
  • a couple days
  • a week - because they'd have to carry it somewhere

Whom comes up with this nonsense?

Believe me, Chicago is no Paris, and to think chairs will remain in place on that site defies logic on all levels. With all these depraved, mentally ill folks and wildings running around, the mere thought of doing something like this is laughable. Yet more money down the drain.

Those countries in Europe where you can socialize and not get stabbed or beat or robbed are those that are high trust societies. Chicago, and most of Western Europe, are definitely not that.

Of course the only answer is our Democrat loons. They want to encourage social gatherings. Haven't the "social gatherings" caused enough problems there. Look for the new 24hr chair detail to be implemented on a foot post. So if each chair cost $544.38 it won't be long before they disappear. A lot of money. The chair provider will provide a generous donation to the politicians for giving them this contract.

This is nothing. Rogers Park left-wing crazies once collected every discarded, moldy overstuffed couch and chair they could find and set up a sort of "street living room" for bums in the dank, urine-smelling Morse Avenue "L" viaduct.

Another low point in the destruction of the area - along with the Jewel, the health food store, the bookstore being driven out of business.

There was one good thing about it, though -

...and another -

After a patron got food poisoning, a popular gathering spot of socialists and "progressive liberals" shut down for health code violations.

As reported here previously, Michael James also owns a garage in a nearby alley that he has rented out to push cart food vendors. Those vendors sell uninspected, unregulate food from their carts. Food items were stored in the garage without refrigeration. The doors to the garage have gaping holes more than large enough for any rodent to enter through. Hogan and James are politically active in local socialist groups and are both former members of the radical SDS. They are also close political allies of 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore, who has used the Heartland Cafe for political functions on numerous occasions, including one that flagrantly violated the city's fire codes.

Great fun at the time, but as everyone can see, the "Long March" and the "Great Leap Forward" forge ahead in uninhabitable blue cities and states "all over this land."

What about that police detail which many say rivals the Secret Service protection for the president of the United States and some of his trip trips? How much did they cost? Will any enterprising reporter find out and let us know how many millions that cost us? And Brandon brought how many multimillionaires with them on the taxpayers dollar that could’ve easily paid for the trip just asking.

About 15 years ago the park district paid for thousands of 25 pound plates to be put on the bottom of the garbage cans on the lakefront to be affixed to the bottom of the cans(inside of them). To ensure that they wouldn’t get blown into the lake. Nearly every plate was stolen within a week by the hundreds of homeless. They were drinking great for that month and I’m sure the several that get these chairs will be doing the same.

Look at any outdoor patio of any restaurant in Chicago. They are all cabled and locked together after hours. And even then our locals and drunk assholes find a way to steal them or throw them around. Why would we need free seating that attracts homeless junkies, illegals and Brandon's and BeBee's kids to our downtown parks? You're better off setting up a booth that sells ammo, pepper spray and rape-whistles in Grant Park.
