Seems like Houston PD has found a way around it:
A Houston Uber driver was caught "off guard" but kept his cool when two police officers jumped into his vehicle and directed him to chase a suspect fleeing on foot, wild dashcam video shows.
Anthony Baines said he was driving for Uber at about 12:20 a.m. Aug. 8 in a Houston Heights neighborhood, when a shirtless man ran across the street in front of his vehicle with two Houston Police Department officers close behind, according to Storyful.
The video shows Baines getting waved down by an officer and stopping as she approaches and hops into the front passenger seat.
The attached four-second video from the link is amusing, with one cop jumping in the front seat, picking up her partner and then directing the Uber driver to follow a running subject.
If it all goes south, just blame the Uber guy.

Both officers lost the suspect. The one looked like she was suffering from cardiac arrest. Not a good display of the future of law enforcement.

Retired, moved to a suburb of Houston eight years ago. Texas is VERY PRO POLICE. This story is amusing since it had a good outcome. If this were a city named Shitcago with a States Attorney named, say Kimm Fuxxx, the two officers would be looking at Unlawful Restraint and Vehicular Hijacking charges. The media shitheads would be crying for their arrests, since the Uber driver was " a person of color". The officers would already be stripped and the shithead Mayor would be pushing for criminal charges against the officers. A big money lawsuit settlement already would be negotiated for a couple of million dollars since the Uber driver is now traumatized and unable to work. . NOT HERE IN TEXAS. TEXAS IS PRO POLICE AND PRO LAW AND ORDER. TEXAS DON'T GIVE A F##K ABOUT CRIMINAL RIGHTS. MOVE TO A LAW AND ORDER STATE WHEN YOU RETIRE SO YOU CAN LIVE SAFELY IN YOUR OLD AGE. I’m a white male and I believe any police officers in Chicago, copa or BIa would attempt to have the driver of the uber sign compliants on the officers. Criminal trespass to vehicle, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint and probably other charges also.
There was a similar case and I forget where. The guy sued that they put him in danger and he that he had to do it because they were the police.

OT: Another "success" story about a former CPD boss. Three US SS agents were terminated for leaking sensitive information to the media.
CBS News identified one of the employees as Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi. The other two individuals also reportedly worked in the agency’s communications office.
All three had their security clearances suspended and lost access to their government-issued devices.
Look who is back in the news. For those who don’t remember, Rahm brought this bum to CPD.

The other two were also USSS officials in media-related positions.
As you recall, Guglielmi durect tweeted me the day after Butler that I was “very wrong” about Jill Biden’s Pittsburgh event the same night getting higher level security assets than Trump got at Butler and more post-standing positions.
A week later, an investigation by Sen. @ChuckGrassley proved my reporting correct.

Retired out of state here. They have driverless taxis out here. Call "Zoox" and then pursue. Each taxi holds six adults. Maybe the jump out boys can utilize these in the future. Maybe the city could save a crap ton of money and do away with squad cars entirely. Coppers could wait at the station for a call from dispatch and a Zoox would roll up to the station and the officer could ride in style to the next call. The entire list of orders and directives could be programmed into its matrix. No pursuits, and no street stops, and especialy no traffic stops.

Chicago-based startup is testing a new approach to gunshot detection technology that transforms smartphones into acoustic sensors, potentially saving lives. The testing comes almost two years after the city ended its contract with SoundThinking.
SplitSec, which was founded in Chicago in 2025, has developed an app that is capable of detecting gunshots using the microphones that are already built into Android phones. The technology has the potential to eliminate the need to install fixed sensors, such as the ones used by SoundThinking.
"As I observed events around us, one of the things that was striking is any time there is a gunfire incident, people are unaware, and they stand there for several minutes not knowing what happened. And so the idea was how can we make people aware sooner?" SplitSec founder and CEO Sri Deivasigamani told Fox News Digital.

SplitSec is not currently working with CPD and its alerts are meant for users. Was a copper in 014 back in the early 90’s. Had a Sgt, JK, that was also in several movies. Some guy jacked up on PCP running around naked with a knife in hand was being chased by police. He ran into some poor souls apartment rear door and out the front door. Took off E/B on North Av and left the coppers chasing in the dust. Sgt JK stopped a taxi, told the driver to get out and took off after dude in taxi. Guy was shot by police a few blocks away. Thought it was great. He got awards and was told what a great job he did. I agreed. How would that play out now? Not so well, right?
