Is crime down? Yes, by raw numbers, crime has dropped this year among the more violent types of crimes. Property and non-violent crimes maintain their rates though.
Will it last? No one knows, but politicians are running on numbers that aren't as bad as they used to be:
Despite historically low levels of violent crime in Chicago this year, candidates trying to replace Mayor Brandon Johnson are sweeping aside the numbers in favor of anecdotes and are depicting the city as reeling in a “crisis” of gun violence and lawlessness.
Chicago had 122 murders in June, July and August, according to city and police data posted through Tuesday evening.
That’s the lowest summer total since 1965. Overall violent crime hit its lowest level last year in more than four decades. City data shows the downward trend has continued this year.
Conehead is sprinting to take credit for all of this, conveniently ignoring the deportation numbers that took an entire segment of the population out of the crime business, along with the choking off of funding for any number of groups that funneled cash to those promoting disorder.
Some of the other "drop-offs" in crimes though are people who aren't reporting them because they know or have come to expect that there are zero consequences being handed out, so why bother? That's even after CTA attacks were up 150% according to CWB reporting.
Stats are funny things - you can twist them to show almost anything.

I think we should promote more DEI exempts, that has to be the reason why crime down. I'm almost positive it because of the immense experience and expertise of DC Watson and Blanton. We should immediately promote Sharon Price to DC. Her one arrest she made as a PO should give her plenty of knowledge and experience to be promoted. She is after all the right race.
How about the ATM burglary sprees every single night that no one can seem to stop? Who would want a business here, knowing some youth are going to come and steel your atm or cash register every single night. Would love to see the raw data on that- not to mention they roll around four stolen cars deeps with AR pistols. Crime is down though
I wonder if the advancement in treating GSWs on scene and at hospital are the main reason deaths are less? I seem to remember tourniquets reduce mortality rate by 75%. Maybe that is the real reason?

So that’s roughly 1.3 murders a day. So they’re celebrating the fact that at least one person gets killed in Chicago EVERYDAY? Wow talk about a low bar. All we hear is these Democratic leaders pushing for more money for programs for the south and west sides but in my 30 years of experience NOTHING has changed. Hell they can’t even keep a chain grocery store open in these neighborhoods due to all the stealing and criminal damage to property that occurs. Just keep spending millions on useless projects so politicians can keep stealing.

Pretrial detentions have also gone way up since Crimeesha left office. Medical treatment for gunshot victims is also more advanced than 60 years ago.
We all know, if you have any time on this job the numbers are all adjusted to fit specific needs. If a body is found in the river with bullet holes in it, classified death investigation. This is a way to keep crime states where the politicians want them, may change classification later but primary is already in the books. This has been going on like this since back in the 90's.

"Crime is down" only because crime reporting is too often futile effort on part of its victims. Many crimes don't even get reported anymore, including most property crimes, fair number of street muggings, and nearly all petty thefts. "Murder" is down only because Chicago's trauma care has dramatically improved, better than military warfare trauma care, though Chicago-area rehab centers still deal with many post-recovery shooting victims.
"Gun control" legislation targets only the law-abiding folks; the gangbangers don't abide by laws. If politicians refuse to face realities of criminals, then the crime-rate will continue unabated.
People are moving out of the city also.
Everytime crime drops the mayors and police chiefs take responsibility for their " programs". And, when crime goes up the mayors and police chiefs blame someone or something else and usually want more money for more programs. Yes, programs with no method of evaluation to see if they actually are effective, just feel good programs, virtue signalling and giving money to community groups. What Johnson never points to is that crime is down nationwide and down far more than it is in Chicago. Compare the crime rate of large urban areas to Chicago and you will see that this town has way more total crime than other major cities.
Murders and shootings may be down in the numbers, in the communities that have thousands of officers assigned daily, but crimes in the OTHER areas are real and continuous to the hardworking taxpayers who must venture out daily to work, with retail thefts, street takeovers, carjackings, ATM thefts, auto breakins, burglaries, retail burglaries, airbag thefts, street robberies, etc etc. Chicago is a cesspool of repeat offenders, repeating offenses! Without consequences! So who is kidding who??

Was listening to Fox News and they were talking about murders and the rapid transit system in NYC. I thought they were talking about Chicago. Homicides are down but women are afraid to take the most expensive subway system in the world. They wear sunglasses and put their hair up so they won’t be recognized. All the pols there talk about is murder.
There was an incident yesterday where police officers in NYC shot and killed a knife wielding woman who had stabbed to death a young mother/attorney exiting the subway. She then began threatening officers on the scene. Although the NYPD has stated the officers were justified in their use of force it’s now in the hands of George Soros backed Manhattan D, A. Alvin Bragg. If that’s not bad enough New York A. G.. Leticia James will have her shot them.

Reported crime might be down. How many times do people of the public tell 911 or a member of the police but don’t want a report or to get involved.
I worked tact and the Commander told us we were making too many arrests and it was adversely affecting his crime stats. Less arrests = less crime.

The presence of ICE heroes on the streets makes up for the lack of local police officers' presence also keeps crime down. Homicide rates aren't down nationwide just because Johnson threw money at the Chicago ghettos and barrios.

Absolutely this is a major factor. A gunshot wound at 3am on Chicago streets in 1966 would've been near certain death compared to 2026. The combo of cellphones to call & direct 911 response and greater trauma care both in the field (EMTs) & in the ER have radically improved survival rates.
I occasionally share Chicago crime stats with an old friend in Spain & he can't believe it. One month in this city has more shootings & murder than his entire nation in a year.
More potential victims have moved away, those that have to stay roll the dice.
thefts, simple assaults, simple battery, burglary with small loss, gang violence goes unreported, domestic battery under reported . Crime is up, shot spotter removed because it showed the world how dangerous some neighborhoods are.
