Dart Looking for Headlines
The Cook County Sheriff’s Police are expanding their patrol footprint by establishing a new satellite office in the South Loop. Ald. Bill Conway (34th) announced the development in his constituent newsletter this week.
“This area has struggled with public safety challenges for decades and has long needed additional law enforcement presence,” Conway said. “My office has been working closely with the Sheriff’s Office and the Chicago Police Department’s 1st District to strengthen their response in the area.”
So....they'll be handling radio calls? No.
Perhaps writing some reports? Nope.
Traffic accidents? Domestics? Dope arrests? Anything to alleviate backlogs? Not likely.
- The sheriff’s spokesperson said officers assigned to the South Loop will “provide increased law enforcement presence in the area, build critical relationships with local residents and the business community, and support our partners in the Chicago Police Department.”
So pretty much just reminding people that they exist and are part of the reason taxes are tops in the nation in northeastern Illinois.

As for what CCSPD will do: Nothing
Crash reports? Nope.
Domestics? Nope.
CTA platform checks? Nope.
Curtailing drag racers and drifters? Nope.
Proactive traffic enforcement? Nope.
DUI enforcement? Nope.
Same thing in 015 or 006: CCSPD bosses tell their guys "don't do shit, this is Chicago and this is CPD's problem. You're here to be seen and then disappear. Zero activity." And yes- that came straight from LEO.

Honestly, it's not their fault, but the sheriff's police Deputies are completely pointless. They aren't even on the same zone, so even when shit hits the fan...they are completely obvious to what's going on.

001 should be asking for the sheriffs to handle paper when they’re in a backlog. If the city cannot provide proper police service, the county is next in line by law to handle the call for service.

During SDI the county crew did help out and take lots of shoplifting arrests and rode on calls. The best work they did is the shoplifting arrests, they took arrestees out to maywood to process them and upon released dude had to find their own way home.
That was the biggest deterrent to future crime. The fact that they had to find transport from a not so distant location pissed them off the most.
Not the actual arrest but the inconvenience of the distance from the processing location.
Now that’s an idea for CPD. Transport all arrestees 50 miles to be processed. Or at least a location to be released.
Somewhere in the middle of a cornfield would be nice.
Not sure why some have a problem with County guys , they have been a big help in Austin and In River North , responding to calls and making good car stops . There Plain clothes version of CST isn’t like our blue card PRT they actually stop shitbirds and not the factory guys with an expired or revoked DL coming home . County has pictures of several good pinches of guns and drugs on FB from River North and Austin lately .

Everyone knows the only reason TV Tommy has added more patrol Deputies, it's because the jail population has dwindled down to nothing. Jail guards have been cut, so now he needs funding.
What better way to get funding, while simultaneously trying to look good, than to get on TV and show the tax payers that he's going to clean up the city by adding more Deputies.
I see a mayoral pitch here, or at the very least he's trying to see what kind of feedback he gets. Clean up your own home before you try to clean up others.

The sheriffs are useless. When Eddie Johnson was sup they did some joint thing with the sheriffs and sent them into certain districts to help. All the sheriffs did was create more work for CPD. They’d stop for hand waivers then call for a beat car to handle it, they’d chase cars and cause crashes, and call of beat cars to do the paper, on view domestics and stop to play hero and then call for a car do deal with it. It’s lasted all of about 72 hours and we never saw them again. We have enough of our own dumb coppers we have to deal with, we don’t need to babysit the sheriffs too. Just tell them to look nice and don’t touch anything. Stay in the office except to leave to get food or go home after work.

They’re a county agency. Not sure if you missed this part in the CPD academy, but because they are employed by the county, the entire county is their jurisdiction. ISP has the whole state as their jurisdiction. ISP and County are allowed to be in Chicago even if taking calls isn’t their first priority. Any other questions?

They forced us to have an outdoor roll call with the Sheriffs and Leo Schmitz in 001 some months back at Roosevelt and Wabash. It was a photo op for the three Aldermen that showed up. I never really saw any Sheriffs after that, even though they said they would be assisting us. We were probably better off.
They have more bosses on the Sheriff’s Police than ever. Doubled because of LEO. They make zero arrests. They are just for visual. They put like 6 guys in a district and then take credit for any dips in crime. Lowest calls for service yet used all the jail positions to expand the police.
They don’t make arrests. Majority have never made a felony arrest. Their entire patrol division makes next to zero arrests.
He’s converted every position from the jail to the police. Ask any former boss what Tommy says about CPD and Preckwinkle behind closed doors.

It will be just like in 018.. a lot of connected clout guys will try to get there. They will “hit it hard” for the first month then just pretty much hang out downtown.. screw up parking.. take advantage of every single restaurant, bar and store that they can and have zero shame trying to get free food from the same places days in a row and trying to get free connections for here rooms etc by giving promises of security.. they did it and do it in 018 and have burned tons of businesses and hotels. The hotels and restaurants treat them like kings, then call them on the weekend and they are nowhere to be found.. they end up calling CPD tac teams or entertainment detail guys to go take care of them. Finally 018 got wise and stopped responding and told the sheriffs to handle it themselves or stop giving these businesses false promises. If you work in 001 I would get ahead of it with the friendly businesses and restaurants NOT to trust the sheriffs and don’t wine and dine them for free.. they have made a lot of enemies in 018 that we have had to try and clean up. You take these morons out of the 3x3 block unincorporated trailer parks in worth and Leyden townships and they think they are in candy land downtown and can get away with anything they want. Go to your businesses and warn them.. it’s like the mafia.. they will promise “personalized” protection by giving out their personal cell phones with an immediate response to anything they need.. then it hits the fan and the calls go unanswered or as usual they are off duty, left early, are ghost patrolling that day or just don’t answer…. They do nothing downtown, are around only for a few hours and scam the hell out of it down here.. beware.
