Info For Retirees
If you're still living here in Illinois:
Looks like they are trying to lower the IROCC payment. The idea of paying $75 EVERY year or $100 for both semi-automatic and revolver qualification is a RIP OFF. Civilians only pay $150 to qualify EVERY 5 YEARS.
SB 1552 : ~ "Amends the Illinois State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board may not charge retired law enforcement officers more than $30 annually to complete the annual certification of retired law enforcement officers qualified under federal law to carry a concealed weapon."

Funny thing;
In Tennessee you have to go to an 8 hour class EVERY year.
Also, qualify with EVERY firearm you plan to carry.
Citizens don't have to do anything.
As a 30 year CPD guy that moved to America after I retired , I think it is disgusting that you have to pay democrats for your constitutionally granted Rights.
Anybody seen the new nickel, engraved Colt SAA's with the walnut stock yet? 45 L/C baby!
The Illinois Rifle Association is located in Kankakee.
The State Senator/Farmer that is pushing this is from there.
Perhaps they are persuading him.
The problem is IROCC is self funded which is kind of bullshit.
The state will fund junkies and bust-outs.
The Illinois State Police only have one trooper who runs the name checks on each retiree who requalifies, so when he is on vacation the whole thing gets backlogged.
"That's what you have to cry about? 100 bucks? Lmao"

Spoken like a true low-IQ moron.
You obviously weren't around when FOP said you will only have to pay $2 for insurance and you probably don't understand how 'Illinois government economics' works. Huh kid?
Keep pushin' that Beat car.
I moved to Missouri after I retired. The local sheriff does the qualifying. They not only don’t charge for it, they even gave me ammunition for free.
Screw that. Just carry without it.
It makes too much sense for the legislature to take it seriously.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Retire and get out of Illinois
Best you get the ccw insurance and legal representation in the event you have shoot one of the endangered class...
Do you know this is free in most states as the LEOSA is a federally funded program? Unreal.
So if I live to 100 I’ll have to pay $1,000.00 for the right to keep and bear arms!?! It still is not right. $100.00 every 10 years and requirement to scale a 6ft wall unassisted. I’m 86 and I still can scale a 6ft wall.
Just qualified for LEOSA in my new state of residence. Cost? Zero. And the only place I need to have it for is trips back to Illinois. Mine and every other state I travel in is Constitutional Carry.
I’d rather see the State make the IROCC permit valid for 5 years.
So glad to be in FL. For annual qual: There is a range that charges $75. The local FOP is $50, but really goes to their general fund. The local Sheriff has an annual meet and greet, then qualify for free, but likes donations to their kids fund. Also, he will get you qualified any time of the year, he knows retirees travel, go back up north for a while, etc.
How about refunds for all the money they stole over charging the retirees? Yeah, Right!!
But remember, with an IRROC permit you can carry everywhere in the US.
That Illinois CCL is only good in Illinois, not outside the state.
Wrong. Your retired ID card lets you carry anywhere in the USA. The rest of America don't give a f**k what an irocc card is.
I retired and moved to a red state. Fuck your IROC Illinois.
Moved to Free State of Texas six years ago. TROCC is free. You find a range, get the range master or any qualified range instructor to conduct the qualification. Mail it in to the state. BTW..Gregg Abbott is signing his school choice bill that will give 10 grand per student if you want to put your kid in private. Haven't had to buy a plastic bag at the grocery store since I've moved here. No city sticker. No state income tax. No speed cameras. Haven't had to pay a parking ticket since I've moved here. AND HOW'S YOUR DAY GOING?
Many States honor Illinois CCL and/or are constitutional carry:

^ Any recommendations on the best CCW insurance policy for IL residents?
Fuck Tennessee.
Transfer some of those flush abortion funds.
Very important, especially if you travel or have a vacation home
Dream om
Glad someone else remembers the $2 insurance along with the $5 cable TV with no commercials
Illinois concealed carry is good in 33 states… and the states it’s not good, are blue shite holes, that you don’t want to go to anyway
Sadly most retirees don't live that long.
I'm still a resident of Illinois. However, I have a non resident Florida CCW. It cost me $119. It last.for 7 years. All I needed was my DD214 or real I.D. with veteran status..I don't have to qualify. It literally took 10 minutes to fill out app, get photo taken, and fingerprints. Not reciprocal in Illinois lol.
You dont need irocc to carry anywhere in USA. That's called H.R. 218
Retired out west. Local sheriff runs an annual qualification and only charges a processing fee of $13.
Back when CC for civilians became law, I sent an email to IROCC asking why we had to pay and qualify every year when Joe Citizen did it every five years for a lot less $. Their respnse was that IROCC is available 24 hrs a day if there are any questions about my/your rights to carry. DUH what's the ID for. Just another cash cow for the state.
Where I live you don't pay anything at all. And you don't have to get a permission slip from the state.
Where I live, out of staters can carry open/concealed permit free.
That’s ridiculous and makes Tennessee less of a retirement destination for me.
Why the fuck does a retired law enforcement officer have to attend an 8 hour class when non retired police don’t have to.
"That Illinois CCL is only good in Illinois, not outside the state"
Actually, the Illinois CCL is good in something like 30 states. and in every state that borders Illinois.
Should be free
The current system is not perfect, but it works. Why add more complication into the mix.
About time, ten years for me, already spent a grand!
Exactly!
Never got caught living out of the city?
And you actually believed the FOP that it would stay at $2 forever? Talk about a low IQ moron who doesn’t understand how Illinois economics works.
I will do you one better when I came on we were told that insurance would be free for you and your wife or husband until you died. Both of you. Until dickhead Rahm cut every retiree off with nothing.
Sorry but wrong....it is a Federal Law but there is no funding given to the individual states to implement it.
The state cannot change the terms of LEOSA, it is a Federal program that requires qualification on a yearly basis
Quibbling over how much you are extorted to exercise a basic human and constitutional right rather misses the larger point, which is that you are paying at ALL.
I think the discussion needs to focus on the core problem instead of comparing sob stories about who gets extorted less than you do.
The Federal government does not fund any LEOSA programs. Implementation is left to the states.
Indiana's constitutional carry requires you to do exactly NOTHING, pay NOTHING and disclose NOTHING to open or concealed carry in state.
To benefit from reciprocity, you have to fill out a form at the sheriff's office and I think it's $20. And you only have to do it once, not $150 every five years.
IL, you are so close and yet so far away. I don't miss it one little bit.
FL is constitutional carry. No need for qualifications
That’s the beauty of constitutional carry.
I was stopped once and showed the trooper my retired badge- he never asked for further proof. Another time I was re-ended and told the officer I was a retired officer, told him I had IROCC- he said he didn't need to see it. Another time I was at a check point- showed my badge and said I was carrying- Trooper waived me on and said have a good evening.
Add in ammo costs for 2 handguns, qualification fees, and it’s almost 200 bucks.
Should be free for all honorably retired Illinois cops. They earned it.
Maybe an Attorney could do a Class Action Lawsuit.
Good to hear that somebody still honors the brotherhood of the badge
No need to fire all those rounds either. 6 rounds close range and 6 rounds mid range per weapon are all that’s needed. We’re retired cops not Rambo’s
A civilian could do that job. Doesn't state police have opsa?
I calling B.S In my Tennessee county, it's free. You show up with one gun, shoot 25 rounds and go home. They don't care what firearm you carry. And there is no classroom.
"Otherwise purely on market principles, you're not going to attract the best and the most talented that you need."
I have info retired officer, don't come back as a civilian. Retire and move on.
IROCC should be good for 5 years. Or at least 2. No reason to qual every year.
Fuck Blue States
California =$500.00 red light & speed camera SCAMMING BASTARDS.
https://getdismissed.com/california-red-light-ticket-cost
That’s ridiculous and makes Tennessee less of a retirement destination for me.
Why the fuck does a retired law enforcement officer have to attend an 8 hour class when non retired police don’t have to.
5/01/2025 01:28:11 PM
Just using common sense here, but maybe because they're older, and not subject to any required training or qualification that the non-retired officers are. If that's a problem, Tennessee also has permitless open and concealed carry, so it isn't that big of a deal anyway.
Wrong. Your retired ID card lets you carry anywhere in the USA. The rest of America don't give a f**k what an irocc card is.
5/01/2025 07:57:46 AM
Wrong. Your retired ID doesn't let you do anything unless you qualify yearly under LEOSA, which is what the IROCC card shows you did. Don't spread dangerous misinformation because you want to have a temper tantrum.
Questions on what?
Please get some range guys who aren’t senile to work on the line at the Academy for IROCC.
I agree... I would rather pay a few 'extra' dollars and not have to qualify every year. Two years would be acceptable and 3-5 even better. I must say though, that the IROCC is very professional as far as sending notices and returning your IROCC ID card usually within a week of qualifying.
This is a federal law and I believe that entails everyone meeting active officer requirements every year. The federal law would have to be changed.
Federal Law requires you to qualify annually.
Or just the first 20 rounds. If you hit what is required to pass, then you should be able to stop
18 for me $1,800
Never believed it, just couldn’t do anything about it. Dont think poster is a Moran, think his point was when it was free the FOP shouldn’t have a greed to it. Make an arbitrator rule
Getting some state funding wouldn’t be complicating it. Just makit cheaper
"That’s ridiculous and makes Tennessee less of a retirement destination for me.
Why the fuck does a retired law enforcement officer have to attend an 8 hour class when non retired police don’t have to."
good look for another state to live in cause TN folks are tired of all the dam yankees coming here and bringing their bullshit with them along with the yankee mentality of over paying 100's of thousands of dollars for property and land. Not to mention the infestation of air b and b's, Nashville have become a yankee ghetto democrat strong hold along with knoxville and Chattanooga
shows how much you dont know about TN when even retired your dont need permits for anything. stop being a sucker for the enhanced permit it doesnt benefit you anymore then no permit still restricted in the same buildings etc.
I love my state we can carry with no permit open or concealed OH YEAH and have a loaded rifle in the vehicle at all times. Yes sir my ar15 is under the back seat.... have a nice day and if you live in the country NOT A SHIT HOLE burb of one of three cities aka where you have to drive an hour to get groceries thats country no one even bats an eye except the passing thru tourist yankees
One day Teddy will show up with no clothes on.
The dude is losing his mind. 🤣 🤣 🤣
The goofy chick from 018 who is a Jehovah's Witness wants to know if she can qualify without using any bullets when she is retired.
What brings you to this blog? Could it be that you're one of those Yankees who moved down there, causing the problem you're accusing others of causing? Hilarious.
your right, that's why I also have the Illinois CCL - kind of doubt i will keep up with the IROC as I will only be going to states that have reciprocity with IL's CCL
True I'm retired and got a CCL that's good in the States I want to go to, and here. Not to say that I don't carry my star and id also. Just didn't want to get dinged by the new generation who could give a fuck about a retiree
They will let her
I’m surprised some old fart hasn’t gotten hurt. What a cluster.
