I can't be the only one unimpressed by the resume of these white-shirts. Master's degrees, "terrorist training", "Top Cop" awards? {snicker} What we seriously need are CPD bosses that previously worked as managers at a McDonald's or CVS in the ghetto before joining the CPD...or worked as security contractors in Iraq or Africa...or hell just worked security off-duty at a liquor store or CPS high-school in the hood. Now that's some real education and should be mandatory experience for any position higher than sergeant in a police department in a city f***ed up as this. Those would make excellent bosses.

Wouldn't it be interesting if instead of the BS resume that the dept posts about those promoted, they post instead how many arrests the person made, how many guns recovered, how many search warrants obtained, how many LOGs received, and how many times they testified at a felony trial and/or grand jury. In other words, how much police work have they actually done in their careers?

You're not kidding! During my time at vice and narcotics I amassed 150+ honorable mentions, Supt tacticals, and some "valor" awards for various arrests and search warrants. For some of these awards I was RDO. Our unit secretary received the exact same awards the entire team received without leaving the office. They're job involved writing up award narratives for later submission. That person eventually made meritorious rank and has been a Sergeant in a North side district. Body worn cameras put an end to the poetic report writing heroic award submissions. This is CPD in a nutshell.

None of the things you posted mean anything for managing a team. At each rank, its more about your ability to manage people than it is to put cuffs on a guy. You want someone who's "been there" before of course but whether they've made 500 arrests, 1000 arrests, or 10000 arrests, it doesn't give them much of a different perspective. You want people who can manage hundreds of people if not a few thousand in a whole area.

For those who say who cares how many arrests a merit gold star has, please keep in mind we are a law enforcement agency not an administrative agency. Glossy, fluffy resumes do not solve community crime concerns. CPD is not a paper shuffling bureaucracy nor a never ending policy revision agency. Citizens demand civil order in the communities not some asshat gold star who runs around worried about comstat inquisitions getting his/her/they lacy panties in a bunch for trivial deadline compliance to e-learning monitored by the Consent Decree check collectors. All the paperwork and administrative garbage doesn't impress vulnerable citizens when hoodrats brandish guns each and everyday taking cars committing robberies at will in documented crime sprees threatening residents. Seems command staff have the right college and esteemed titles but little elementary schooling in the actual basics of street law enforcement. Administration report generation is a higher priority than criminal enforcement application.
Citizens are concerned about crime and disorder not the generation of useless consent decree mandated paperwork while crews of hoodrats prowl in communities. All while plugged armed police hide inside in a secure facility risking life threatening infected paper cuts never ever protecting the community that makes Chicago work. Gold stars are rewarded when the top priority paperwork is completed and forwarded down the chain of command in a timely fashion. Arrests and traffic enforcement are of a lowest priority. Residents demand Hope, and demand Change, seeking the resurrection to the C.A.P.S. strategy crime triangle addressing murders, robberies, shootings, unlawful awful gunfire, non profiled traffic enforcement and car jackings.
None of this matters .. all the cry babies will do is come to work and do exactly what these bosses want them to do... like a bunch of sheep

Jerome got a chief job in a northern suburb. He’s Leaving end of the year or just after the first of the year and starting in the new place replacing their chief. Their chief is retiring in February.
