New Speed Cameras Making $$$
When they keep the publicity to a minimum, people (and folks) tend to not notice they're pockets being picked:
Chicago drivers are getting slammed by new speed cameras that went live in June.
The 22 new cameras helped the city issue more than 91,000 speeding tickets over their first month of operation, according to a Sun-Times/WBEZ analysis of city data.
In all, city data shows 186 speed cameras issued more than 240,000 tickets in June, the most in any month in nearly three years.
If history provides a guide, the new cameras will continue to catch drivers unaware until they change their habits. Five of the city’s six highest-ticketing cameras in June were cameras that started operating that month.
The Sun Times actually broaches the question if the cameras are properly calibrated:
- He said he hopes the camera will slow drivers down. But Johnson and another neighbor who spoke with a Chicago Sun-Times reporter are skeptical that the camera is ticketing only speeders. Earlier this summer, ABC7 reported that several city speed cameras were inaccurate by less than 1 mph, though the city says that’s within the legal limit.
And then they revert to form, claiming speed cameras are racist:
- Studies have shown the cameras are more likely to ticket Black and Brown drivers. But the cameras are also proven to improve traffic safety and potentially help the city tackle its stubbornly high rate of vehicle fatalities, which disproportionately affect the city’s poorest neighborhoods.
Which we have pointed out, when you don't bother to maintain your vehicle properly or bother to pass a Drivers Ed course, you tend to be ignorant of the Rules of the Road and/or being able to read street signs.
But Conehead needs his money, so there won't be any real investigations.

Of the total of these speed trapping cameras issuing tickets, what is the demographic and geographic percentages on actually being paid?
Ditto for the ones perched at traffic light directed intersections.
Will the next graft phase be mounting cameras on every stop sign?
Perhaps beginning with the areas within a defined radius of cps/ctu buildings?
With the standard claims of this being done for the childrens?
Why, a combo of a shot spotter & blowing/sliding through a stop sign could be that huge influx of revenues so craved by the cravens.
I suggest that a few more in Mt. Greenwood....It's for the kids!

Speed cameras and red light cameras are just a money grab.
We live in a "Grift Society!" Everyone has their hand in your pocket!
So now they're giving agency to the cameras for issuing tickets to "black and brown drivers," while removing it from the drivers themselves, as if they were all just sitting passively in their speeding cars minding their own business, when the racist traffic camera decided to give them a ticket. Progressive logic in a nutshell.
I had to go to post office yesterday. Not a single bike rider or electric scooter goon obeys a single traffic light. A bicyclist went right in front of a turning cop who had the turn arrow, the cop had to brake hard. I feel bad for drivers in that city, it's brutal.
I'd love to know how many of those tickets are from stolen cars,cars not registered or with stolen plates. The red light camera money isn't going to put a dent in the city's debt. It's like filling a bucket with a hole in it.
I wish there were more, and please add stop sign cameras, too. I'm sick of folks not even slowing down at the stop sign in front of my house. CPS parents heading to drop-off are the worst.
Vehicle fatalities are directly related to traffic enforcement. When crazy people, drunks and morons get ticketed or locked up, they eventually change their behavior. Less traffic enforcement means more dangerous roads.

Sounds like qe need another speed camera audit. Probably set to maximum fraud setting like the short cycle redlight cams.

If Cook County residents receive "special absolution" from the courts (no fines, unlimited number of citations, and little or no punishment when a final disposition is entered) then why all the technology? Or is the cost and imposition of the technology just for the chumps that don't have a reserved pew at the courthouse?

So the cameras are taking pictures right? AI is all the rage.. program the cameras to keep track of race and issue tickets so 'fair is fair'...

if we can claim the system is disproportionately affecting law breakers because of their race, let's fix the system!

Mayor Lightfoot said speed cameras were racist issuing tickets to Blacks driving over the speed limit by 9MPH so she lowered the speed to 6 MPH over speed limit to get Whites, Asian and Hispanics now that's racist

Ignoring the obvious fact that these cameras aren't racist, and that black & brown drivers are committing more violations, isn't the plan to exempt certain classes of people from having to pay these tickets anyway? “Problem“ solved! Let's Go Brandon!

Conehead needs that camera cash. He spent 1.2 million on stickers that go on all city vehicles that say “building a better Chicago. Mayor Brandon Johnson”. The city is paying city workers overtime to put them on the vehicles. We're in a deficit and he wants more money from the citizens, but spending money on stickers, well, that's just raggedy.
