Thanks Again Crimesha
Close....but not quite close enough:
A man accused of flashing gang signs and pointing a gun at another man in a McDonald’s parking lot two years ago, only to get shot in the head because the other man was an off-duty Chicago police officer, just got a little salt in his wound: an 18-month prison sentence for illegally possessing the firearm.
But, with more than 1,000 days of credit built up from time in jail and on electronic monitoring, 27-year-old Carlos Negrete isn’t expected to serve a single day in prison.
He will have spent a tiny bit of time in County, plus the SAFE-T Act ensures he get credit for electronic monitoring (which is a joke). But no hard time in an actual prison.
And (surprise!) he wasn't a stranger to the "justice" system:
A jury convicted Negrete on July 31 of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with a threat of violence, but acquitted him of aggravated assault. On Thursday, Judge Steven Watkins imposed the 18-month sentence with 1,185 days of credit.
At the time of the shooting, Negrete was already on bail for another felony gun case. Prosecutors dropped that matter in November 2024.
This turns out to have been one last "F#$% you" from Crimesha to the Police. That other charge that could have added a few well deserved years to his sentencing was dropped in November 2024 as Crimesha left office. O'Neal-Burke wasn't sworn in until December 2024, by which time, any sentencing enhancements fell into the cracks.

So, time awaiting trial is credited as time served for a conviction, yet an acquital results in only time served for nothing?
Bond is for motivating indicted to show up for all court dates, not for gaining credit as if incarcerated.
The mutating of the two is just as harmful as day for day credit on terms of imprisonment, though this day for day credit can be offset by doubling the sentence.
And as for anklet monitoring, well, how else can the grifters get their graft and maintain the conditions of chaos that they so relish for their griftings?
Ole boy Carlos ain’t finna to straighten out more to come
Just horrible!
Nothing new here.
Whatever happened to Crimesha's root beer caper?
Maybe it would have been different if the offender threw root beer on the cop instead of pulling a gun.
Should have had the feds adopt the case. 7yrs all day
How do you get “Good Time” before you do anytime?
Good time was originally you got 1 day of your sentence for every day you were good and didn’t cause the guards problems. And if you transgression was a serious one you could loose your accumulated “Goid Time
