Conehead making useless noise again:
Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed budget for 2026 would impose new limits on overtime spending by the Chicago Police Department while acknowledging it was unrealistic to expect CPD to spend less than $200 million next year to compensate officers for working extra hours.
In all, CPD’s budget is set to swell to $2.1 billion, increasing by $37.9 million to cover the cost of salary increases required by agreements with unions representing members. That includes an estimated savings of $30 million from a partial hiring freeze of long vacant positions, officials said.
Johnson’s proposed spending plan would double CPD’s overtime budget from $100 million to $200 million, the first increase since 2020, when the budget for police overtime went from $95 million to $100 million, records show.
Budget Director Annette Guzman told reporters Supt. Larry Snelling said he was confident CPD would spend less than $200 million on overtime next year. However, Chicago taxpayers have already paid $190.1 million to officers for working extra hours through September....
Chicago is going to end up with just over 400 homicides this year (probably), not a record, but an improvement over years past, and that was with how many days off and weekends cancelled? How many OT initiatives?
The main way to cut OT long term is to hire more bodies and that ain't happening.
Another way is to revamp the Department, top-to-bottom, eliminating all sorts of useless spots and getting more bodies on the street. We don't see that in the works.
A third way is to close two more Districts along with an Area and spread the manpower out, usually in combination with the previously mentioned top-to-bottom restructuring. Anyone see that in the planning stages?
So less coverage, more cuts, lots more elearning and a continuation of the useless policies of the last three decades.
Better hope for a cold winter, a rainy spring and a mild summer, otherwise it's back over 500.

It’s going to be about 88 million less than last year and 92 million less than the year before. People see we are “doubling OT”.. no, they are just being more honest about it. And the 190 million spent so far? That was a number from mid August. We are at about 230 million right now. We will end the year about 270-290 million. Cutting even 70 million off OT will be devastating. Trying to cut 90 million will be nearly impossible. I know people think 200 million is a big number, but for an entire year it will go very fast. Pride weekend on its own costs about 15 million. If you want to cut it, cancel pride parade, don’t cancel weekends for holidays except for 4th watch and STOP with the BS robbery and traffic missions for 4 hours.. they are pointless and a massive waste of money.
There was absolutely a plan drawn up to merge two districts: 020 and 024. A few civilian policy wonks, consent decree people and some brass drew it up. 020 has a lockup and is a new station with a parking garage. 024 is falling apart and has nothing to offer. 020 is the slowest district around with the least amount of manpower and some of the most senior people. This new district would have had only 15 beats, but they’d have 5 TAC teams and 3 bike teams for Clark street and the lakefront- think 019 north and the kicker was it would’ve been 10.5 hour days like 005 is. this was thought of a few years ago but was shelved because of political reasons. if the budget gets tighter next year don’t count this out.
The dirty little secret no one wants to talk about it that most of the OT is complete scamming.
Don’t get me wrong, I partake in it, but the city isn’t going to go into a free fall because OT isn’t offered. Most of the time the people doing the OT do ABSOLUTELY nothing.
You can balance the budget just by not having slips padded.
Don’t forget Snelling’s lost a lot of credibility by backing him up.

Enforcers of the laws which they select to be enforced, upon those whom they select those laws to be enforced upon.
Clout rules in all things, aka, clout is king.

Protect by inaction the maintaining of disorder, disturbances, those crisis not ever wasted, their webs constantly being tangled, their delusions vital to be spread, etc.

The overtime is great, sending my kids to private schools, not putting them in the indoctrination centers garbage disposals known as cps! You are correct, but not padding isn’t going to cut nearly enough. There isn’t wide spread abuse of massive OT padding going on. Hour here, hour there for the most part. I’m sure some are doing big pads, but I’d guess across the board a vast majority aren’t getting massive pads. Certainly not enough to balance the budget on its own.
Why don’t you ask what we got in return for it instead of being a whiny crybaby about it.
P-days are typically for things like weddings, graduations, long weekend trips, etc.

It doesn't seem like they have, or understand, any kind long term planning for CPD, or any other city department.
Clearly, certain parts of the Mexican community do not want the law to be enforced. They seem to think they have a right to not obey the law, and not have to face any consequences. I hope I.C.E. breaks up these entrenched illegal communities along with their entrenched lawless mindset. Crime will go down across the city.

The merger of 020 and 024 is ancient news. It was first planned back in the late 1970s. The then new Rogers Park station (024) was to replace 020 at Foster and Damen by combining the two districts. Community pressure, the politicians not wanting to lose plum favors, nixed that.
The same thing happened when the then new station at Belmont and Western was built. The old 019 at Addison and Halsted was to close. But community pressure again rose up and it became 023.
Many units ignore efforts to reduce O.T. because they simply do not want you to go home. In Detective Units oncoming sgts. do not want their crews getting tied up on the previous watches jobs. They want to start their shifts with a full crew available, especially on the 1st and 3rd watches. These annual announcements about OT reduction are nonsense.
Speaking of budget cuts, is the department cutting teams? And thought of vice and asset nojo?
About those padded slips – some of those teams send some of their guys/gals home while the other half or third finishes the paperwork. The ones left in the office either fill out the slips for the others who have been gone for hours or the people who go home do their own slips and the guys left just fill in the ending time. We are not talking 15 minutes or a half an hour, either.

Are the 500 predicted homicides innies or outies? Failed Superintendent Jody "J-Fled" Weis created a statistical obfuscation with the indoor and outdoor homicide classification creating an illusion of an increase in the decrease of toe tagged lifeless homicided bodies.
What exactly is overtime being spent on? The previous years saw days off canceled, VRI/SDI, massive detective OT, OCD OT, tons of people going to court. 2025 saw few less days off canceled than previous years. Detectives and OCD struggling to get OT. No SDI or VRI. The only thing was just people working their RDO to fill down cars.
Combining 020 and 024 is long overdue.
