This guy is a successful hedge fund manager who took billions in assets (and tax-generating money) out of Illinois, so it might pay to listen to the reasons:
Billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin took aim at Chicago again on Wednesday, calling it “a failed city-state” during a business conference in Miami.
Griffin, who announced in 2022 that he was relocating his Citadel Securities headquarters from Chicago’s Loop to Miami, made the remarks at the American Business Forum. Citadel manages more than $65 billion in assets.
“Dinner in Chicago would be about crime, about cronyism, about failed policies in the state,” Griffin told the audience. “It is so refreshing to be in a city where people talk about tomorrow.”
He went on to contrast his new home with Chicago.
“Do you know how great it is to go to dinner and people talk about their children, and they talk about their future, and they do so with excitement and enthusiasm?” he said. “We lost that in Chicago in the last 10 years.”
A business-unfriendly climate contributes to a precipitous downfall as much as any other cause. Blue-state shitholes could learn a thing or two about that.

Griffin makes some valid points, but after spending tens of millions on campaign contributions and losing he took his ample money and left. I also suspect no income tax Florida, state he was raised in, is very appealing to a guy pulling down hundreds of millions or billions in income every year.
Still it's a loss for Chicago. He was a big contributor to museums and other stuff.

When Griffin wanted to leave his first wife (a beautiful French hedge fund manager with a MBA from Harvard), he waited until she was airborne on a flight from ORD to Paris with their 3 young kids to visit the in-laws. Right then he had his lawyers officially file divorce papers. Then immediately had all the million dollar art removed from their Mag Mile Penthouse & stashed in a secret Art Institute of Chicago storeroom (for free, as a donor courtesy). When wifey landed 8 hours later, she was greeted with shocking news, and there was no art collection left for her lawyers to appraise for the big split.
Griffin was born & raised in Rat's Mouth, Florida (Boca Raton) & it's fitting for him to return. Good riddance.

This could be the dumbest comment I have seen online this week. And that is saying a lot. His contributions to this city far outweighed virtually anyone else this century. If I am wrong, tell me who? He donated large sums of money to charities, museums, schools, parks etc. He put up his own money to not just back candidates but to keep Pritzker in check.
Now his contribution to the state income tax is gone, as is many of his highly paid employees. Money the state and city could certainly use.

This is the generation that has been brainwashed that if they are white - they are privileged. The others told they are victims of systemic racism. So the white kids, scramble for an alternative victim identity to partially absolve themselves of “white privilege” (trans, gay, other) and place all the blame on the bogeyman of “Boomers.” Meanwhile, Gen X (my generation) who claim to be so tough have raised these fragile millennials and Gen Z…where did we go wrong? Oh that’s right, letting social media raise our kids and putting too much faith that schools weren’t indoctrination centers for the last 30 years.
