Shooting Videos Released

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability on Wednesday released videos and other materials related to the fatal shooting of a man by an on-duty Chicago police officer in Austin on September 6.
According to COPA, officers were responding to a burglary in progress involving suspects who were inside a vehicle. When officers encountered the vehicle in the 800 block of North Waller Avenue, it struck their squad cars, the agency said. One officer then fired his weapon, killing one of the individuals inside. Another suspect was arrested at the scene, and a third fled and has not been apprehended. COPA said a gun was recovered.

It looks like the officer ran around the back of the offender's vehicle after the rear driver's side door opened and one offender fled from the vehicle (apparently armed).
When the driver saw the officer go after his accomplice, he reversed and struck the officer.
The "I got this bro" ghetto officer involved in the shooting seemed quite unstable by Chicago standards.

I’m six years into mandatory retirement and it was heart warming to see the new guys who’ve succeeded me are still out there doing police work despite the adversity and hostility-oftentimes from within the Department itself-trying to keep us safe. I especially liked the change in the offenders breathing pattern near the end of the video and his fixed pupils. I saw it often during 29 years on the Westside and I knew it meant he would soon be bragging about running over the police to his homies in hell instead of sitting down with Loevy & Loevy or the other bottom feeder Romanucci. I also remember stories of Jim Mauer giving the principally involved officers a hundred bucks or so to grab a bite, or a beer, for after the round table but I myself am now on a fixed and can’t contribute! Great job!

Really? He was the only one not screaming. You need guys like that on scene to work the radio. And I'm not criticizing the officers on scene. I understand the duress they're dealing with. Ive been there. A calm person working the radio can give important info to responding units, location, direction of offenders, etc.

Wtf talks or thinks like that about having to take someone's life.. justified or not... talking another humans life shouldn't be so easy to brag about. You obviously never been in a situation where you had to kill someone during your career... the second guessing you are stuck with, the constant replay of the events in your mind trying to make sure you really had no other choice... trying to sleep at night as it replaying in your mind over and over again .. you clown get help for your demented thoughts.

Good shooting, we need established actual standard tactics for removing felony offenders from vehicles. Shields, grapplers, pushbars. Sorry knee shaking academy folks. Felony robbery/carjacking crews exist. Officer involved shootings happen. We need realistic training for all of the above. Not PowerPoint.

The answer is simple. The cameras, including those worn on the body are - to watch the police and convict them. They have no real evidentiary value.
The offenders were already in the car, and one team out of the car. It doesn't show on the video offenders running to their car.

To 09.06.46.... look at the video again. Police in front of them and in back of them. Parked cars on either side of them. 3-4 police officers standing around their car ordering them out. There was no escape. When they started ramming forward and back, yes, they were trying to hurry our kill anyone in their way. They are the kind of people who rob, hurt and murder without a moment's thought. That is when the Almighty gives us both the power and the responsibility to "stop the threat".

In Chicago there's plenty opportunities for on-the-job training in those scenarios.

This is an example of a poor prosecutor against a stellar defense attorney, based on the article.
If you've been to court enough, you learn to respect even good defense attorneys. I certainly met a few ASAs who didn't give a sh*t about winning cases and clocked out at 5 on the nose, while other stayed late in preparation for trial.
People commit crimes and go to court all the time but that doesn't mean they are "guilty" of the crime charged. Heck in this case the defense attorney admitted that the defendant threw the sandwich but the prosecution and the victim could not prove that it met the elements of the offense. The defense didn't even put on a defense. They went right to closing arguments.
Poor prosecution and poor testimony from the agent ensured not guilty in this case.
