Where the Money Went

There's a social media account on X / Twitter named SubX News (or similar).  They were posting reports from someone who was taking pictures of snowed in bike lanes that weren't plowed, calling in to City Hall, and then posting more pictures of some specialty plow dumping the snow wither into traffic or onto nearby sidewalks.

The one set we saw was mildly amusing and demonstrated what we had written about a number of years ago - that taking out an entire lane of traffic along with hundreds of parking spots was short-sighted in the extreme. Nearby businesses were denied thousands of customers and the City ended up cutting their own tax revenues in the end.

We had to go qualify last year at the Area 3 range and Belmont is a disaster from end to end, especially if a bus is there or God forbid, an ambulance has to try to force their way through.

The cost for these things was something around a quarter-million per city block, money that could have gone to balancing the budget, paying off debt, funding the pensions. This one isn't Conehead's fault but it's amazing how much money was wasted over the years for nonsense that continues to cost the City revenue.

the original designers of the city were brilliant people. the civil engineers today are mentally R*ted. ruining the grid making peoples lives harder. It has to be by design that they are doing this, --another way to disrupt. another reason i can wait to leave.

Yes, citywide bike lanes that about 1% of the population uses, and even less in the winter. I swear liberals will lead the destruction of the country of allowed.

The whole bike thing is a scam. There isn’t enough all year bike usage to justify all the bike lanes.

When Rham was anointed he hired the #2 guy from NYC DOT to run CDOT. He stated in multiple interviews that he was going to create a 10 year plan (Bourgeois Bolsheviks love 10 year plans) that would cause gridlock and force people onto public transport and bicycles. Bike lanes and boulevards would be the focus. He stayed only three years before heading back to NYC but the plan was in place. They told us what they were going to do and now we’re fucked.

A unicycle is more effective for getting to and from the range.

Most of what he posts is stolen content. He does not forward other's work, he downloads it and posts it as his own.

it is slated to run all the way down Archer AVE to Harlem AVE. If you live in that area you better call your Alderman ASAP.

Wasting tax dollars is the one thing every Democrat mayor of Chicago has done well since Jane was in office.
Those bike lanes were a cash cow for clouted contractors, and streets and san overtime.
Wondering where your tax dollars go? Went?
Democrats stealing right in front of you.

What I like is when it says "One Way" with "except bicycles" in signage underneath!
They've never followed rules anyway!
I do remember Rahm saying the idea was to "slow down traffic." Well, you did!
No parking meter revenue, businesses moving.
Good call! (sarcasm)

Too late they are already fxxxing up Archer Ave to 47th St. Archer Ave from State St to 47th St has always been a congested but alway a viable alternate to I-55 when there are the accidents and shootings shutdown I-55. With the bike lanes it is always a one lane disaster in both directions. Thanks democrats!

The people who push for these bike lanes and other things like special bus lanes or cutting streets off to cars, don't even live in Chicago.
I got into a conversation about the cta on a social media site and they were all talking as if we had one bus. After I explained I can take pub.trans to almost any town in the county they told me they've never been to Chi.
Then there was another nut that wants express bus lanes and such thinking that he invented the idea. And when I told him Chicago tried that for 16 years and scrapped it because express buses work better, he just block me.
Its all a scam.

Tear out every fucking bike lane and bike barricade. Survival of the fittest. If you can’t navigate the city streets on a bike let Darwin claim his prize.

And we already have bike lanes. They are called sidewalks.

Not enough people use the bike lanes to justify the expense. Looks good on paper but in reality is a huge waste of $ and an incredible inconvenience for almost everyone, except the one biker per hour that uses a bike lane.
