Another Conehead Win!

Another plywood-sapling sprouting on Michigan Avenue:

  • The iconic Saks Fifth Avenue store on Chicago's Magnificent Mile is one of several locations across the U.S. now set to shutter, the company said in an announcement of a second round of closures on Friday.

Saks Global announced the closure of the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Michigan Avenue as part of a "planned optimization across its store portfolio" that also includes shuttering 19 other Saks Fifth Avenue stores and 4 Neiman Marcus stores across the country.

Sounds like Saks is getting ready to go out of business in a few years, so maybe not entirely Conehead's fault - but the buck stops with the guy in the big chair when shit gets real. Maybe FAta$$ can get partial credit for the business-unfriendly atmosphere.

They didn’t close all their locations. If Michigan Avenue was still the thriving place it had been this location would have been one of the last ones to close.

Look, I can't stand Conehead, but this ain't his fault, this is another leveraged buyout disaster! Not just Saks, but the same company owns Neiman Marcus & it's also going under due to the stupid buyout which saddled the company with huge debt. Customers of both have said the store stocks are bare & the customer service is non-existent!

This is no longer a laughing matter....Crain's Chicago Business (paywall so can't link) recently ran a piece called "What Chicago can learn from Detroit", and advocates for a chapter 9 bankruptcy for Chicago.

No one goes to the store that’s way they’re shutting down stores. They are not going to keep an unprofitable store open. They are running a business to make money not give the city tax dollars.

Well, genius, it’s a little thing called “Tax Dollars”!
Not that you would care, because hey, it doesn’t affect you, does it?!?!
Those businesses close on the Mag Mile, and tax revenue dries up.
No tax dollars = no way for the City to pay for things… like your paycheck or your pension.
So pull your head out of your ass and start paying attention to important stuff.

If the store was profitable it would be kept open. Profitable stores were not closed. When security costs and theft loss eat away at your profit margin it becomes unfeasable to keep operating a high rent, big loss business. Goodbye. Im sure they closed the Detroit, Compton, Gary locations too...
