Nice to be Connected

Sometimes we think we went into the wrong career, but we have actual standards:

  • Former Ald. Walter Burnett (27th Ward) will collect an annual city taxpayer-funded pension of $120,608 — and could also earn more than $310,000 at the same time as head of the Chicago Housing Authority, according to records obtained by WTTW News.

Burnett, who represented parts of the West Side and the West Loop for 30 years on the Chicago City Council, retired July 31. During 2024, his final full year as an alderperson, Burnett earned $145,974, and accepted a 4.1% raise for 2025, bumping his final annual salary to $152,016, records show.

Burnett will start receiving pension payments of $10,134 per month sometime in October, and they will continue for the rest of his life, according to records obtained by WTTW News from the Municipal Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago.

He's pretty much doubling his income in retirement.

We'll bet that the "Municipal Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago" isn't one of the funds flirting with financial disaster for some reason.

$120,608 + $310K = $430, 608

A paycut from the salary of $432K he was going to receive as Vice Mayor.

Don’t forget guaranteed COLA annual adjustments of 3%!!!! Per the Rule of 72, at 3%, money payout will double in 24 years (72/3). So Walter’s pension will exceed $300,000 a year in just over two decades and people wonder why the state is bankrupt and overtaxed. Brain surgeons aren’t even compensated this much!

A mystery.

How the multitudes of communities feeding on the taxpayers' nipples, a mere trickle of the swag juices filling the swagsters' coffers, whilst these hucksters guzzle by the bucketfulls.

Where are these chronic greedy fucks spending their ill gotten gains? And on what?

So what, how many CPD hacks get rehired as civilian directors for their expertise? What about Waller? He’s collecting 350K a year for what? The current head of BIA? Tim Moore.
Tina Skahill? I can go on.

The phrase, "for the rest of his life", begs the question of to whom will this likely to be spent upon? And for the purchasing of what?

Talking about connections, you have to be CONNECTED in order for the FOP to help you out. Not to long ago I was sent to the pension board for a disability hearing with my attorney of course and not the in-house FOP attorney which I was told not to get. Well, there was another officer for a hearing as well who he is juiced up politically and family who are ranking in CPD. I was surprised when I saw three members of the FOP present for him and non for me, he also had a private attorney. One of the FOP members was on the phone and after he hang up he told that officer that J-PUSSY CAT can't make it. To top it off, the injury that other officer sustained is nothing compared to what I sustained. He was granted disability and I wasnt. They even drove the officer to the hearing. Did you guys know that there are two FOP members on the PENSION BOARD? Fack the FOP, they are useless fucks. When I was going through the process I would call and email that lady Monica Ortiz and she would never get back to me. So what's the point to be in the Union? I was told to talk to J-PUSSY CAT directly or the other heads of the FOP but for what I thought. So I got facked and the corrected didn't.

Raid your hand if you’re retired collecting a pension and working another job now.

Let’s be real… if they didn’t allow collecting a pension while working another job, all these retirees would be screwed!

The 27th Ward a median income in East Garfield Park in 2022 of $23.067. Talk about gerrymandering. This ward takes in Cabrini Green, gentrified areas like the Ukrainian Village, the New Bally's Casino, Riverwalk, River West as it moves as far west as the 011th District. Lots of Section 8 in East Garfield so he has $300k+ worth of CHA experience. Burnett is worth every penny of his fat cat executive compensation earning a top seat in those cigar smoke filled rooms. He is leaving behind the number one issue of carjackings never fully addressed. Historic landmarks in his ward include Cabrini Green, Black Panther Headquarters at 2300 Madison and the termination point of Fred Hamptons bold leadership at 2300 Monroe. Certain zip codes have been left behind as low income residents have relied for generations of government assistance and benefits. Burnett has failed to address despair and disrepair in his community of color as a six figure esteemed member of the city council.

The Municipal Employees' Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago (MEABF) is not fully funded, with a funding ratio that has been reported as below 30% in the past and with projections showing it will not reach 50% funding until 2048 and 90% by 2058, according to the Illinois Policy Institute. The fund's funding comes from a combination of member contributions, employer contributions, and investment earnings. However, the City of Chicago contributes less than the actuarially recommended amount, creating an annual funding gap

I for one am glad they are denying some of these disability claims. People who were able to use some connections to get desk duty with a suspect ailment now complain when the pension board is having none of it. Too bad these folks were able to avoid the street for years with their nonsense. I’m not talking about people with legitimate issues.
