FOP to Endorse Chico

  • Emanuel “sat on his hands, looked the other way and took the cash” when presented with an “Enron-style” scandal at Freddie Mac, said challenger Gery Chico, who is expected to be endorsed by Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police today.
We're going to say this is probably the best decision to be made at the moment. Rahm is saying straight up that he's going to cut pensions for current city employees. In light of years worth of compromises and promises made to the police and fire departments to accept less money or different compensation (uniforms, duty availability, etc) in return for adjustments to pensions and the like to assist the city, any vote for Emanuel flies in the face of reasonable decision making.

Now get over to the Board of Elections website and register to vote.

THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS 25 JANUARY.

This is an excellent choice by the FOP. I watched the forum on channel 11 last night and i just couldn't believe how arrogant Rahm was. I can't believe that anyone would actually vote for this guy.

I'm hoping that, just like obama's other boy Alexi, Rahm gets sent on his way with his tail between his legs.

Now the FOP has to talk with the other unions and all of them get together and come out IN FORCE against Rahm Emanuel.
The unions still hold a lot of power and it's time they actually flex it.

Rahm Emanuel has publicly stated that he will reduce our pensions. If any union person or any family member of a union person votes for this guy they are basically voting to take money right out of your pension.

I beg any person that is even considering voting for Rahmbo to please vote for any other candidate. Heck, i'd even take mosley braun over rahm.
Rahm is pure evil, you can see it in his eyes. It seems as if he has no soul. He will come in and screw the city over so bad while making millions for himself and his connected friends on the back of the tax payers.
That's how he made his fortune...

He is interested in making himself rich and making himself a the next king of Chicago.

Citizens of Chicago, do not cast your vote for this man. He is very much a part of the same crooked group of Chicago politicians.

He has never been a middle class hard working person.

His ego is his only motivator and that ego has a wealthy appetite.

Do not vote for Emmanuel!

It seems as if that arrogant prick Rahm has already written off the police vote. He's made it perfectly clear that he intends to bend us over and dry fuck us. He obviously feels that we represent an insignificant amount of votes. Let's not prove him right. It's critical that every one of us vote and choose someone other than the Rahmfather.
I'm hoping that we get a runoff between Rahm and Chico. That way Rahm would be in for a true dogfight.
I saw a quote that Rahm would be a younger more energetic version of dictator Daley. We need him like we need a hole in the head.

FUCK RAHM EMMANUEL!!!

We just suffered through 21 years of the evil Daley, now fucking Rahm Emmanuel wants to come in and finish the job? Rahm is the anti-christ as far as police & fire are concerned.

And he is endorsed by Bill "I did not have sex with that woman" Clinton?

BULLSHIT! Who do these power hungry mother fuckers think they are?

Any police officer who votes for Rahm Emmanuel needs to be beat with a hard stick. That man is no fucking good for us, no way. He came right out and said what he intends to do to us, read below, Rahm is quoted directly:

"In contrast to his main rivals in the mayor’s race, Rahm Emanuel has told labor leaders that he favors reducing pension benefits for the city’s existing work force and not just for new hires."

"Although Mr. Emanuel has not yet publicly detailed his plan to confront the city’s perennial budget deficits and the severely underfinanced employee pension funds, he told union officials in a private meeting on Dec. 15 that he thought it could be necessary to cut the pensions of ALL EMPLOYEES, said people who attended the meeting."

Got that? ALL EMPLOYEES! We police officers are covered in that "ALL EMPLOYEES" thing.

Do not vote for this man, get some professional help if you do for you will deserve the fucking you will undoubtedly get.

Yesterday was the candidate meeting at the FOP. The Clout Babies, (Shields Team) wanted to remove all the unit of assignments next to each candidate’s name from the ballots. Their argument,” a beat officer in 004 is more likely to get more votes than an officer that works in Personnel.”

There were about seventy FOP candidates at this meeting and all but the Shields Team voted to keep the unit of assignments next to each of the candidate’s names as it has been done in ALL the past FOP elections.

Emanuel could do the job as mayor. The problem is that he is so divisive and vindictive, he is the worst possible choice for mayor. I am holding my nose and voting for Chico. He's the only one at this time that can beat this 7 fingered Napoleon.

The district I work in has less than 215 PO's assigned to it now. 8 or so years ago, there were over 300. We're down about 33% already and they aren't replacing any and they're talking about taking cops out of the "quieter" neighborhoods for the rough areas. Hell, they took one-third already, how much more do we have to give up?

Yes, you are correct. Insttead of raises that the city would have to match on the pension fund, we got money in the form of short term payouts. Nevertheless, I really do not think it matters who is elected mayor, in the near future, pension benefits for those still working will have to be adjusted. State Representative Kevin Mccarthy has already stated they are looking at just such a state bill. The actuaries have stated that without adjustments the pension funds cannot survive. What is the alternative? No pension for anyone? or a higher retirement age? People will say anything to get elected. But once they are in office the realities hit them square in the face and they change their tune. Just look at our president. He now embraces just about all of the things he slammed Bush for.

Does he have to give the award back like Reggie Bush gave back the Heisman Trophy? This city will be hit with a permanent eclipse some day from all of Da Mayo's thievery. It wont have a chance of change with either Rahmo, Braun or Chico. Daley will still be in charge holding his award! SAD!

It seems The Good Ol' Boys' Network which is the current FLOP was practicing "Business As Usual" yesterday at the meeting for all those running in the upcoming election.

To wit: Rich "A" overheard afterwards at the General FOP meeting saying how the 3-hour window in which to drop off ballots in person the day of the election was challenged by a member of Shields Team, and how the current regime tried dismissing adhering to the rules of the election, citing "past practice".

In a nutshell, the boys on the way out are clinging to the last glimmer of hope that they've employed in elections past...INTERPRETING ELECTION RULES AS THEY SEE FIT. Seems getting called-out on it ruffled their feathers REAL good...wish I could've seen it firsthand.

ALSO...Arbitrator Benn (of Piss-Poor Contract Fame) and FLOP In-House attorney, through some weird "coincidence" I'm sure, were both present to moderate the proceeding & "sort-out" any items in the election rules that were contested by either side. When asked how/why Arbitrator Benn was selected, FLOP's response was (not verbatim) "he was available & we know his history". When put on the spot as to why an In-House attorney was selected to preside over the proceedings as well, I was told you almost could've heard a pin drop.

*** The membership needs to be aware of how things are actually done surrounding this election. The Good Ol' Boys have attempted to stack the deck against it's opponents, and it's all becoming crystal clear whose best interests they REALLY have in mind...AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE THE MEMBERSHIP'S.

GREAT NEWS!!!
We gotta go with Chico guys. Rahm just proves over and over he's an outsider DC guy and having Clinton pushing for him should scare us all. The scary part is Rahm could care less about the 470 plus stars on the wall at 35th he still wants to cut our pension, medical etc. etc. But we can't talk about the aldermen's pensions and Rahm's possible 3 pensions.

No one will mention how we put in every two weeks to the pension and that we get no social secutity. He will be very unfair and hard to do business with. Imagine when it's contract negotiation time! Rahm is an outsider that will destroy chicago. Just imagine how much unchecked power Rahm will have with Obama in the White House and Eric Holder in the justice department. Hell, Raham probably had alot to do with putting Holder there. That's way too much power for one man.

Not a wise choice. To have a 60K yearly retirement income, you'd have to earn, create or inherit, and then save $3 Million (3M?) dollars and get a 2% percent yearly return on it, year after year, until you get your ticket punched. Not many people on the job would be in that category.

Actually it was more back room trickery. Rahm Emmanuel actually received the most ballots from police officers. Just try to get the actual count, CW won't tell you. Rahm was a few percentage points ahead of Chico.

Knowing that endorsing Rahm meant a quick death to their re-election chances the board declared a "statistical dead heat" and changed the procedure mid stream and behind closed locked doors.

Then the board decided per the new just decided procedure for the board to vote for endorsement of one of the top two ballot getters.

And lo and behold, Gery Chico was endorsed unanimously! What a wonderful surprise! Except Rahm Emmanuel got the most ballots returned. That was discarded and the new and improved method of fixing the results was instantly adopted.

By Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I swear this is true. It was rigged, as if anything in this city isn't.

Yes... They are scared shitless of being shoved into irrelevency and no longer being thought of as "impotant."

For what it's worth it would be nice to finally see the feebs dank on some rever-rear end ass with the same ardor and zeal they reserve for publicly rifling a Copper's underwear drawer at j-fled's insistence.

The feeb satellite office at HQ is a damning indication of their long term intent we reckon.

This ward gives you 3 others who are running who could help the police and fire, but we support this goof. We are our own worst enemies. Chico helped ruin the public schools. He is one of Daley's hacks going back decades. Why do you all think he will be any better than any other douchebag candidate? You are smoking crack while drinking the Kool-Aid. He says he wants to put 2000 more police on the street, yeah right! Empty promises that he knows he can't keep. Camden NJ just lays of nearly half their department and they have the 2nd highest crime rate in the country, per capita. That sets a precedent that our mayor can use, whomever he or she is. They are all the same. Our pensions are fucked. We are fucked. Things are NOT going to get better in this town. If you have less than 10 years, take a leave of absence, move to another state, find a job, then pull your money out of the pension and use it to buy a nice house in that other state. Get out while you can!

Rahm keeps saying the pension system is "not honest". The pension is as simple as a contract gets - Employee contributes 9% and Employer contributes 9%. Nothing honest or dishonest about this.

What was dishonest was Mayor Daley using the 9% he was suppposed to contribute to pay for all his programs that got him re-elected. THAT WAS DISHONEST. BUT RAHM WONT SAY THAT.

Rahm looks down his nose at us and thinks we are too stupid to figure out his "Washington Talk".

You think he is arrogant now? This is during the courtship. When that is over the malignant Rahm behind that smirk will come out.

Oh, and not just for one term. Daley showed Rahm the playbook on how to spend our money to get re-elected for LIFE.

The politicians KNOW the numbers, they know who votes people, and they know we dont. We dont have a leg to stand on when we go looking for support of our causes and these politicians can tell us to get fucked because u guys dont vote anyways. THATS A PATHETIC NUMBER and I assume its not much better in other areas with high numbers of police living. SCC consider posting those numbers in BLOLD PRINT as a post please. Thats disgraceful and needs to change. When I heard that i inquired about becoming a deputy registrar and when i do im going to make a point of going to roll calls all over the city on my own time to register guys. Does it really matter who will be the next dictator? Until people start realizing that the illegals in this state, that is killing our pensions we are fucked. The money we have spent on schools, welfare and medical expenses over the past five years would have put our pensions in the black. All the candidates love them so, we are fucked.

We can't keep spending money on people because it's the human thing to do. None of the candidates are willing to address this issue and from what T see most of the police in this city don't care. When your budget doesn't pay the bills these same fucking politicians {both sides} tell us we have to suck it up. I cant get more money in my budget unless I work more Hrs. The city and state get their money from us to create the budget. They know they can't tax us any more so they will forced to reduce our pensions. crying and bithing wont stop it. 1/19/2011 10:38:00 AM

uh, not exactly, math wizard, not exactly.

1. not voting at all does not add to rahmbo's totals. all it does is not add to any of his opponents' totals.

2. voting for '(anyone else)' only adds to the total of the one 'anyone else' you vote for.

3. merely canceling out one of rahmbo's votes, by voting for 'anyone else', can, at best, result in forcing rahmbo, the currently touted leading candidate, into a one-on-one run off election, against whoever gets the 2nd most votes.

4. united voting for a single candidate in the initial election is the only way to ensure that rahmbo doesn't get to face a weak candidate in the run off election, presuming, of course, that rahmbo will get the most votes, will get less than 50% + 1 and make it to a run off.

5. assuming that all voters who voted and didn't vote for rahmbo will ALL vote in the run off and ALL vote for rahmbo's opponent is naive, at best.

6. the 2nd highest vote getter has to come very close to the 1sr highest vote getter's total, least those voters scattering their votes amongst the feeble candidates in the initial election decide to: a) not bother to vote again in the run off, or b) jump on the perceived 'winner' bandwagon.

7. and you can bet that those group voters backing the straggler candidates will be wheeling and dealing with both the 2 top vote getters for their group's votes, if they garner any significant number of votes in the initial election.

anyone but rahmbo won't cut it.

it has to be a single SOMEONE.

Having said that, I'm glad you are pushing for Chico, because I just can't stand the way the power structure decided Rahm was going to be mayor and that was it. Chico may not be perfect, but Rahm is really not from here even if he ever did and/or does live in Chicago. Being from here is a mindset and he hasn't got it. When he speaks so nicely on TV he's faking. I don't think for a second that he'll ever be on my side. Daley has insulated himself so well by passing the wealth around that every pol that has ever had anything to do with him or passed through Chicago has dirt on him and is not going to squeal.

And if Richie ever thought about talking, they would Cermack him.

ONE QUESTION FOR THE CURRENT FOP STAFF...

Why was arbitrator BENN hired to make decisions regarding the upcoming FOP election??????

YES...you head correctly....the FOP has hired the same guy that screwed us on this last contract. The SAME arbitrator that the FOP KNEW screwed over TWO (2) other law enforcement agencies just prior to arbitrating for us,... AND STILL DECIDED TO USE HIS "SERVICES" even when given a choice of two other arbitrators.

Add these 9 degrees of separation, and you can see what alot of PO's have figured out long ago....that the current FOP is in bed with Daley, doing some of his dirty work by f***ing over the very guys (US) that they are supposed to protect. Watch and see where Donahue lands when this is over. I bet a HUGE job with Daley ties. Same probably goes for the other puppets on staff.

Bella, Caparelle, Aguiliar, and the rest of you sell-outs ARE DONE.

Wake up and see what they are doing over there on Washington St. guys and girls. We have been sold out...AGAIN. It's time for a house cleaning. My vote and the vote of everyone I talk to is going to SHIELDS. Its gonna be good riddance to bad rubbish come 04 March 2011.

For all you ass-hats that think the city wasn't putting in their share of the pension, think again. They were, the problem lies in the multiplier. According to the pension newsletter the multiplier from 1982 is still in effect. For every dollar the member puts in, the city puts in 2 (1:2). There was never any adjustment. The city is using a 29 year old method of contributing. Currently the newsletter states that the city should be contributing 5.87 dollars to every 1 contributed by the member. The new pension law mandates the city contribute on an actuarial basis and begin doing so by 2015, thus the meltdown on tv shortly after the bill passed by richie pisspants daley.

Daley Files to Sell $8.3 Million JPMorgan Shares After Joining Obama Team

William Daley, President Barack Obama’s new chief of staff, filed a notice with the Securities and Exchange Commission today to sell 186,190 shares of JPMorgan Chase & Co. that he valued at almost $8.3 million.

The approximate date of sale was listed in the filing as today and comes as Daley, a former JPMorgan executive, divests his holdings to work at the White House.

Daley’s last day as a vice chairman at JPMorgan was Jan. 7. He resigned from the boards of Boeing Co. and Abbott Laboratories the same day.

When asked how/why Arbitrator Benn was selected, FLOP's response was (not verbatim) "he was available & we know his history".

WHAMMO!

BOY, did you hit it right on the head. The old white people are being squeezed dry of their last 1950's-prosperity dollar by property tax increases, "refinancing" scams, and Medicare fraud, and the manufacturing behemoth that made the labor unions a force to be reckoned with is gone.

"Green tech contract grifters" -- trees planted on every freaking roof in the city by the Me And My Brother From Poland Roof Tree Company, using 100% illegal labor, of course...

I believe Chico is an excellent choice and that Emanuel is a disastrous one.

However, I'm also sure that Chico will be forced to make very nasty choices that will not please the police rank-and-file, or any other city employee. He will be forced to make cuts in public service employee salaries and benefits whether he wants to or not, just so this city can continue to run.

The fact is, is that this country as a whole is comprehensively, completely, totally bankrupt and that public and private pensions alike are steeply underfunded, and there are massively more claims against whatever money still really exists that can possibly be satisfied in the next 100 years.

Do you hear what I am saying? What I'm saying is that public servants will have to accept not just "stagnating" wages and pensions that don't cover, but will probably have to accept rollbacks in wages and reductions in pension benefits.

Why? Because the people who pay for it all, those of us who work in the unsubsidized private sector, are being systemically DESTROYED. While the wages of rank-and-file public servants have "stagnated", the wages of private sector workers have dropped and are continuing to drop, as more jobs have disappeared- do not be gulled by the few hundred thousand jobs added, for they don't begin to offset the 7 million lost. We in the private sector have had our hours and pay cut, watched our benefits be canceled, and count ourselves lucky to be employed. People with advanced degrees and managerial resumes who once made 6 digits are settling for a third, or a quarter our former incomes just to stay employed.

I would rather give the police and fire fighters raises than give them to anyone, but we can't afford to give ANYONE a hike. We'd like to roll back the salaries of high ranking officials steeply instead.

Absolutely everyone is suffering as the economy continues to de-leverage and reset to a much lower level. This is happening whether we want it to or not. We're all getting crushed- nobody will keep what he or she has now... except for the $40 M Bonus Babies at the bans who both the Democrats and Republicans obey.

I'm sorry, really I am. I wish things were different.

Reading this blog it seems that most everyone is against Rahm. This is fine, but in order to do something about it you must get out and vote.

For as long as anyone can remember, the politicians have not cared about the Police Department votes because they knew that not many officers came out on election days and their votes could not sway an election one way or another.

Things might be different now IF officers and their families and friends were to pull together and vote against this guy and for ONE other candidate.

I don't know how many votes constitute a bloc, but if you are serious and care about the ensuing years, you had better do something. If not, just keep bitching.

God bless and good luck.

We like how you think... That is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Chicago politics has been the impetus behind more strange bedfellows, political matings and the resulting ugly spawn currently run amok.

Chicago politics is the piss & santorum stained, tic, flea, chigger and roach ridden mattress with cigarette burns and recycled condoms in the basement of an abandoned Gladys Av. 2-flat.

Elected officialdom and their supporters smile for the cameras and try very hard not to scratch the bad itches in bad places...

So thats the REAL issue here. You see its not the pensions at all. The PRIVATE/CORPORATE sector is what destroyed the economy. The big banks, the bogus loan writing to make more money in commission, WALL STREET, the CEO's getting HUGE bonuses and got greedier. ALL the people making your 6+ figures, well it blew up in their face. Guess what? the MAJORITY of police, fire, teachers etc. DON'T make 6+ figures but have a steady/secure job and have a pension that now EVERYBODY thinks we shouldn't get because the people making the BIG BUCKS lost money/jobs. Why weren't you complaining about public pensions when you were making your 6+figure, while looking down on us bottom feeders on a city wage??? Guess what? While you were sipping on martinis and coctails at lunch time making your 6+ figure job, planning for your next meeting, the police officers were getting shot at, firefighters were running into burning buildings, Garbage men were collectiing your garbage and CPS teachers were getting motherfucked by students in the classroom making half of what you probably made. Get the fuck outta here with the "I can't afford your pension". I pay taxes too, does that mean I pay my own salary and pension along with it? Now people are jealous because we have secure jobs with somewhat of a pension??? But before we were peons(sp)on a city wage not making the corporate big bucks???? While its a sad story about what happened to people that probably looked down at us because we weren't as important on a city wage, don't take it out on us bottom feeders making half of what you made now because we have a pension...Now you have to settle with a job making probably what we have been making along?????....Too bad

Every member of the Chicago FOP should be raving mad! Why does the FOP spend thousands of "our" dollars to conduct a bogus election. We were sent ballots for our input for the endorsement of a mayoral candidate. When pressed for the breakdown of the results of the election, MP of FOP said Rahm Emanuel came in first place, Gary Chico second, Carol Mosely Braun, third, and DeValle in fourth place. So why put on a front? FOP is lying to you. You may not like the results of the election, but at least have some integrity and not be decietful to the membership. Its our money you're wasting.

Hey, Mr Civillian....here is a clue

WE HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR OUR OWN PENSIONS.
It is just that the idiots in city hall, who have to match our input, have been squandering OUR money away with "investments" to friends and family.

The media make it seem as if it is a gift that should be taken away. Lets see,....... what if you kept investing in your bank account (savings) and the bank then said that they could no longer pay you because the money will just not be there due to bad investments.

Wouldn't you be a little pissed off?

Guess what...we are. It's our money.

Why is it that when someone challenges FLOP; they fall-back on arguing "past practice." Did we all forget what "past practice" has done for us in contract negotiations and grievances? I'll tell you - absolutely nothing!

Can someone at FLOP explain why FLOP hired Arbitrator Edwin Benn to oversee the FOP election? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the guy that screwed us with a 10% raise and FLOP welcomes this douche into our home with open arms! Nothing here, move along, yea right!

I was undecided on the FOP election until I heard this, but Mike Shields you have my vote! Ken Hauser enjoy the last of your free lunches and prime parking at Wrigley, you're next to be voted out of office.

Been voting since 1973 and haven't missed a single election in over 30 years. I know who the President is, the Vice President, both US Senators, my useless ass congressman, my State Rep, my State Senator and my Alderman. Hell, I even know most of the names for the County Board. Those of you that have jobs and don't know your elected reps, shame on you and if you don't get off your lazy ass and vote on election day, two shames on you. These bastards are doing work that we should be watching over and our vote is the only approval we get for what they do. Your vote is important, go to the polls on election day.

I vote to unemploy most of the incumbents.

The entire point about the units was not to hinder transparency. The point was to put all the "past practices" on paper. You want to require an is or Fop # to vote? Ok, put it in the rules.
You want to list candidates' names AND units of assignment, fine. Put it on paper.

REALLY!! Do you Really think we're going to fall for that Lie?

You must think working coppers are dumb! Remember the working copper can tell when the bad guys are full of $#@T.

I call this excuse a HUGE PILE OF BS!!!

I recall when there was a Burke or Murphy or such on the ballot and people wondered who the hell is that?

We screamed to have the Units put alongside their names so we could narrow it down who the hell they were.

No way will I agree to have the unit number taken off and I will vote for Shields. We old guys fought to get it on and that is where it is staying, Unit numbers, right next to candidates name on the ballot.

Here's a fact. If the city would have been fully funding the pension all along, then we wouldn't have the pension crisis that we have now. The city chose not to fund our pensions. We can not let them continue to make us and the other city unions look like greedy bastards.

1/19/2011 09:50:00 AM

Here's another fact: the FLOP hasn't been doing it's job as our pension rights advocate FOR DECADES.

Buh bye Marky Mark D + Turd VP.

Time for a change.

The last I olliked at Chico's comments, he said that he would keep an open mind about employee pensions reforms, he did not say that he would not sponsor cuts to current employee benefits. And, for those who still are saying that the pensions can be saved if the city pays their share, that is not what the actuaries are saying. In fact, they have been saying for years, that the current formula of 2-1 by the city was never enough to fund the pensions, that it was a flawed policy. So even if the city fully paid their share, the pensions would still be in trouble. They are not sustainable as is and will run out of money in 10-12 years unless drastic changes are made. Denying this will not make it go away. Contibutions will have to be raised on both sides and the retirement age raised. There are many cites and states in the same boat. Prepare to work a few more years and pay a few more dollars each month. The city cannot raise enough in taxes to save the funds.

Didja ever think that the "powers that be" would want everyone to move out of Chicago just to leave room for special others? I'm talking about the water rights. Lake Michigan. Ok, I said it. Water is the most precious and valuable jewel on earth!

Speaking of politics, here's a good one - FOP has an election meeting last night. One of the Team Shields Legal Beagles made a big argument to keep unit identifiers OFF THE BALLOT. The SHIelds team does not want voters to know that two of his guys (McCarthy and Collins)work in the Superintendent's office. What a joke.

----------------------

This is true ask anyone that attended the meeting members of the Shields team did not want any unit designators after their names on the ballots. Reason unknown however, perhaps they are trying to hide something, what should it matter ask the Shields team that question.

Liar.

Half or more of the Shields Team stood to keep the unit designator on there. I was right there standing with them. It has been there for years and is the easiest way to identify one goddamn Murphy from the next 6.

............................

No you are the liar, the female who addressed the issue alleged attorney, challenged it and consulted with Shields himself however lost her challenge to remove the designators.

I'm a suburban officer, who resides in Chicago. After reading this article Chico gets my vote. We are all in the same boat, no matter where we work. I wonder how many other suburban officers that reside in Chicago will vote and show Rahm Emanuel, he miscalculated the number officers(CPD and suburban) he pissed off.
