A Tax too Far
- CHICAGO β βTo the residents and businesses of Cook County, we have heard you loud and clear and so today I have filed an ordinance to repeal the Cook County Sweetened Beverage Tax,β said GOP Commissioner Sean Morrison at a press conference held Wednesday at the Cook County Building.
Indeed, a poll released Wednesday shows 87% of Cook County residents are upset about the new one cent per ounce sugary drink tax, making a 2 liter bottle of soda pop cost 68 cents more.
Joining Commissioner Morrison as co-sponsors of the repeal ordinance are Commissioner Richard Boykin (D-1), Commissioner John A. Fritchey (D-12), Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider (R-15), and Commissioner Jeffrey R. Tobolski (D-16).
There was equal bi-partisan support opposing this tax last year, but the tax passed by a single vote and that tie-breaking vote was cast by President Preckwinkle herself.
These five all voted against the tax to begin with, and they're extending a lifeline to the other eight assholes who supported this disaster of a tax - a tax that is opposed by 87% of the surveyed electorate.
Unfortunately, the next Cook County Board meeting is 13 September, meaning a full month minimum of the tax being collected from irate taxpayers. This month will show exactly how much Prickwrinkle isn't going to collect from the tax. We're betting that her estimates are going to be off by tens of millions for the month alone - upwards of $100 million a year.
The really bad news for Toni is she has now driven countless people to experiment with shopping in outlying counties and even other states....and people are realizing how much money they can save merely by driving 20 or 30 minutes from their comfort zones. And when they save on soda, they realize they save on gas taxes - ten and twenty cents a gallon. And they save on sales taxes. And they realize that they can strike a small blow for their own pocketbooks.
And a few hundred thousand "small blows" add up to tens of millions over the next 30 days....and even the Machine is starting to notice that this truly was a tax too far.

Been shopping in Dupage county now because of stupid snake Preckwinkle and the other fools. Saved a lot of money. People are sick of this crap! Tax tax tax! No more Starbucks or drinks from Dunkin Donuts either. They taxed them too. There's so much outrage over this.
Oh, it's way bigger than that.
The FED has gotten into it and says it was illegally implemented.
Illinois - the whole state - will lose a ton of food assistance $$$ if the tax isn't
repealed.
I'm still going to shop in the suburbs, though, even if they repeal it.
I get lots of free bags (which I re-use) and lots more choice in product, and lower gas taxes, and cleaner, friendlier stores.
You really blew it, Toni.
Ten or twenty cents a gallon? DuPage county gas is 30 to 40 cents a gallon cheaper than Chicago.
The 13% not upset? welfare recipients
Madam Crook County Board President, you are a complete failure and embarrassment to the County! ...
YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!! π©
I am not cheap, but I refuse to pay taxes for sodas or sweetened drinks. I work in Franklin Park and DuPage county is just five misn away from where I work. I will shop ther from now and on, I will not give my money to Cook County. I mean we pay taxes for almost everything!!!
In some ways Toni is deluded and thinks she is
Mike Pence. She actually hammered that final nail
when she broke the tie. You know it's bad when Chicago
people drive to varoius locales and say "Toni sent me."
I drove to Munster Indiana to visit a friend and took the opportunity to fill up my gas tank and shop at the Jewel right on Ridge Rd, along with most of the people who reside on the south side of Chicago. The store manager was stocking shelves with soda(which were empty after the weekend) and said it has been great for his store because people are doing all of their shopping while they are there, which is exactly what I did and I saved quite a bit of money. I also picked up cigarettes for a couple of my neighbors while I was there, so not only did I not shop in Cook County, I didn't shop in Illinois.
Say Toni Stinkwinkle, how about a tax on flamin hots and grape pop, no exemption for link users. You will make up the deficit in no time. Oh I forgot, the sacred protected class is off limits. They must have their "disposable income" so they can sit on their asses all day, buy their loosie Newports, $500 jackets from Madison and Pulaski, and get their nails did too, all courtesy of the beleaguered middle class.
There is so much haterd for Preckwinkle and her cohorts it's quite amazing. Hopefully they will all get voted out for this.
Off topic ... why is detective supervisor who is being investigated by the inspector generals office still in area north supervising new detectives in general assignment?
she for sure don't need no side hustle
or pesos. wow what a pension!
couldn't do daily cash balance for a WalMart
if her life depended on it
Don't worry, a lot of the jobs will be lost anyway.
The city lost me in '93, im on the far southwest side of Des Plaines 2.4 miles from the land of Dupage. Talk about the savings! Everyone I know plans on getting our pop in Elk Grove, as it is we all go for our smokes and gas already. My smokes are $10.40 in D.P. and only $6.15 in E.G. Gas which is already 10, 12 cents cheaper in D.P.than in Chicago is another 10,12 cents cheaper in E.G. (Dupage) And for me its only two n a half miles away
Want to bet they find an excuse to have an emergency meeting this next week?
$87 Million is a lot of Emergency.
Not only has the sweetened beverage tax failed, but as you mentioned people are awakened to how much more pleasant it is to leave the county/state for their shopping needs, thus decreasing the amount of regular sales tax collected as well. Epic failure.
I'm not paying this tax. Looks like I'll do a lot more shopping in lake county
Tax-and-spend. Tax-and-spend. Tax more-and-spend more. Lose revenues.
The formula doesn't work anymore.
Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois need to get some new leadership.
Poor leaders should step down - but they don't. Instead they push harder to get re-elected because where else can they go and make a lot of money for being incompetent?
When are YOU going to stop voting for them?
Spent upwards of 500.00 dollars in groceries including water, soda and booze at Costco in Mettewa, IL., paid 14.00 dollars in total sales tax, life is still good outside of crook county...
Watch for Toni to cry to the Illinois Combine
to pass a state-wide sweetened beverage tax
to punish you free-thinking cook county churls
for shopping in the collar counties to avoid paying
that tax...
The FEDS should do away with SNAP all together may cause a few to actually work for the first time in a generation...
Cabelas for ammo, Pilot for gas, smokes and lottery tickets. I've been doing the Indiana shopping trip for a decade now. I simply added soda to the list of things to pick up.
If traffic is shitty, I'll go down 394 into Will county for everything but the ammo.
Healthy taxpayers on the west & south side don't seemed outraged by this tax.
The great thing about shopping out of Cook county is that I don't have to encounter SNAP holders who are immune to such taxes & regularly have their shopping carts loaded with 'nutritious' and free items like lard, frozen waffles, salty chips, mac & cheese, etc.
This effects more than just buying soda at the store. Why go to restraunts or movies in the county when you can avoid the tax in the burbs. If you go to the movies or drive through 1/3 is usually ice. I think this is a red herring, they will make the tax a flat 10% and all the sheep will be happy. Who cares if people are mad preckwinke will still win reelection ...heck Stroger won while he was on his deathbed in a coma while a ventilator kept him alive.
Want to save money? Get rid of the deputies in courts houses. . They are glorified security guards im shocked they have given that to that crooked security company that gets all the clout contracts. Pay off duty Cook County, Suburban, and Chicago police officers 35$ an hour to do it.
If just the big soda companies would have gotten involved problems could have been avoided. Take the similar soda tax in Philidelphia. A certain to win female presidential candidate supported the soda tax in Philidelphia. A non profit foundation bearing the candidates name d.b.a., The Clinton Foundation, had received 4.3 million dollars from Coca Cola. The female candidate never spoke of the tax after learning about the grnerous corporate tax-deductible donation. Coca Cola's tax problem got immediate action and was resolved. Even the former president representing the foundation praised the company during their namesake cola products 100th anniversary ceremony.
Coca Cola could have just hire locals. Senator Dick Durbin's wife Loretta and son Dick. Jr. are professional lobbyists for hire commanding corporate sized fees. I'm sure they know people in the Cook County democrat party to influence a favorable outcome for corporate America. And if anyone thinks this can present a conflict of interest, senator Durbin (D) himself is on the record saying his immediate lobbying efforts are ethical as long as it does not involve federal issues. Your right Senator, best damn state and local governments lobbyists can buy!
Smokes? Pop? What are you living in the 60's? That shit will kill you. Instead of driving to another county for the cancer sticks and liquid sugar why don'y you just stop poisoning your body with that crap?
Prickwinkle's protege, Kim Foxx spotted by an off duty copper buying her pop at a store in Will County
way more important than repealing a Perfectly Good Tax, especially one that the beloved Pet Group, da'Po don't have to pay, is passing a plethora of County Ordinances criminalizing any & all Cook County Residents from "shopping outside of Cook County" with maybe an Amazon/internet exception & also an exception for the beloved Pet Group.
Out of County shopping by Residents must be clamped down on & with heavy duty fines & penalties could be a really sweet little revenue generator too
Every vehicle with Illinois tags crossing the border from that g*damn Indiana needs to be stopped & throughly searched for contraband. Contraband redefined as "anything" which can be purchased at a store. Law needs written such that if the detained "smuggler" doesn't have a receipt from Cook County for the purchase of any "goods" in the vehicle, they are guilty of "ex-County shopping" & charged and heavily fined as such... not even an opened cola can, a bag of eaten burger wrappers, an opened deck of fags should be allowed in without a big fine unless the damned Smugglers have a receipt showing they were bought & taxed in the beloved County With a Heart, the County That Cares
I work for a major beverage company and I don't give a rats ass where you buy your pop. $$$.
The Wal-Mart just over the Chicago/Indiana border sells the sofa as soon as it is stocked.
One bit of advice,
Take a cooler or two full of ice for the frozen and refrigerated foods when you go shopping out of county/state.
No need to risk Salmonella while you save money.
The real costs are to businesses that are forced into collecting ill conceived taxes imposed by government. In this case, with so many variables of the product the subject of the taxation it is difficult to impose correctly. Because mistakes were made, a number of businesses are now subject to the costs of and potential high exposure to litigation. And this is the real issue for business to consider in the future. Do you want to have a branch or grow operations in a state such as Illinois, Cook County or Chicago where punitive tax policy is embraced and put into law by those local governments? But folks, this is the leadership that we have elected to represent us and we do not seem to be collectively considering the quality of the leaders we elect. Thus we have the likes of Toni, Rahm, Blago and all the others. Hopefully the 87% will change their voting habits and we can make necessary changes to leadership in this state across the board.
I am done buying ANYTHING in Cook county - PERIOD. I've been driving the fifteen minutes to shop and it's not a big deal at all.
Feds say the way this tax is implemented is totally illegal. I guess everyone pays the tax, but EBT (food stamp) holders go to the service desk and get the tax refunded to them in cash. Hey TaxWinkle - you CAN'T GIVE CASH FOR A LINK CARD. Cook County board is like the west side grocery store owner buying the link cards for pennies on the dollar. This shit is so ingrained in them they totally forget that it's illegal - hahaha
Cook County, Illinois = Laughing Stock of the United States
dumb dumb daley is to stupid to realize the tax is bad for his constituents.
remember this idiot didnt even know walter paytons jersey number
dupage county just off county line road on i55 is very convenient for the midway residents
i vote republican and I'm proud. Trash like rahmie and taxwinkle can kiss my ass! I also shop outside the county and state. No sales tax on food in Indiana.
There is a big wide world outside of this Democratic political party prison called Chiraq
My God is this woman stooopid
Want to bet they find an excuse to have an emergency meeting this next week?
$87 Million is a lot of Emergency.
The Feds will not with hold that money because they say the tax is illegal. Their gripe is that people making purchases on welfare have been charged the tax and THAT'S because this program was rolled out so fast, store owners did not have time to set it up in their POS systems. The county told everyone that EVERY sale of a beverage that falls into this category MUST be taxed. If you are on welfare, their solution was to charge them the tax, put that tax revenue into a special fund and then reimburse the Feds out of that fund.
The Strack & Van Til grocery store in Hammond IN is exactly 32 minutes from my South loop condo according to GOOGLE MAPS. No county, city, bag or state tax. I'll be buying all my groceries there from now on. And might as well gas up while I'm there too!
7.2 miles to shop outside of Cook. A Jewel, Meijer, and an Aldi all at 1 intersection and the car gets 32 miles to the gallon. Add another mile and I can buy Ammunition without Cooks tax also. I've done the math Toni..... You Lose

That's the key.
Find the outlying county you want to shop in then find the particular suburb within that county that has the least taxes.
I stated shopping outside the city / county when the city started taxing bottled water and the county raised their taxes.
Why wouldn't I? Tax rate in DuPage County is 7%
And if things change further in this shithole state, i'll start driving to Indiana.
Democrats are too stupid to see the writing on the wall; that people will flee to wherever they need to save money.
Remember, the fiscal mismanagement by the Democrats (city/county & state)
That is why we are taxed to death. They do not know how to manage the money they have.
I want to know who are the 13% idiots that think this tax is "good" thats the problem with these people agreeing with the same old politicians every election..WAKE UP PEOPLE,it's my/your hard working money.........
All you 19th ward people, will county is 20 mins away I-57 to I-80!
It's not even about the money any more - I'm tired of the left jacking us hard working citizens while a certain segment of society sit on their porch drinking 1/2 quarts until 4am and then tap it off with gunning down some more nuts all the while blaming police for everything that ills thie`community- tap it off with high profile figures marching for a millionaire POS quarterback because nobody wants him - how fu$&ed up can a people be!!!!!!
Prick-winkle is a social engineer. And everyone (except the do-good liberal) knows what happens when you experiment with "social engineering." Stalin, Hitler and Nikita Khrushchev were social engineers and "how did that turn out?"
This country fights wars to stamp out murderous social engineering.
Vote a straight Republican ticket always. Stop these cretins before they gain traction.
It doesn't matter anymore if they repeal the beverage tax. I enjoyed my shopping excursion to Dupage County. Stores are cleaner and less crowded. I saved on gas and sale taxes as well. I'm done. Not coming back.
You can take away their lives but you'll never take away their grape pops.
And hot chips.
LaPorte County,Indiana cheap, cheap, cheap!!!!!
The best thing for Indiana businesses is Illinois Politicians, so drive on over, enjoy lower taxes, a safer, more pleasant, whiter shopping experience (except for Gary)and your concealed carry card is happily honored.
My liberal democratic neighbors have started a carpool of housewives and are driving the 20 minutes down Milwaukee Ave into Lake county. No fees, lower regular taxes, no city bottled water fee, no county taxes, lower RTA taxes, no Cook County taxes. Next thing you know, they might even think about voting for whats best for their families rather than what the machine wants them to do.
Hey Toni get Mikey to stump for and get that lawsuit back going too...........
Buh Bye
The repeal would just be rats trying to keep from drowning on a sinking ship.
Noooo. I want the tax to stay in place. It will be the lightning rod for voter anger that will surely bring about the demise of the Democratic machine.
Great job, Toni. How about another one?
How about a tax on toilet paper. That conjures up a great visual image as to what the protest might look like.
Call the next case. Not a cop.
Hey I have an question. A liter is 33.814 oz, so if its a penny an ounce tax to they charge 33 cents or round it off to 34 cents when purchasing a two liter of soda?

8/11/2017 02:12:00 AM
Because this was a political witch hunt and he knows more about the Detective Division than any of the bosses currently up there. Quit bitching about other P.O.'s and Detectives and do your job. By the way I am not a fan of him but I will say he knows what he is doing.
My only hope is that there will be a blood bath come election time and that pathetic piece of shit Prickwinkle along with the entire county board are swept out of office. There needs to be a clean sweep!
No tax for those who drink grape and orange pop. Drink up!
Its the democrat way obama wanted us to pay 10 a gallon gas and 4 times more for electricity.
Jewel on 142nd and Bell Rd is in Will Co. who does NOT have that soda tax and Homer Glenn which has 0nly an 8% sales tax.
Doing our shopping outside of Cook County--and happy to pick up sweetened beverages fro the neighbors!
Close to dupage. Cashier at jewel/Irving & Addison road said last Saturday was like Christmas.the soda and related stock was cleaned out!it will be interesting to see the number$. Yes, gas is way cheaper too. People are taking road trips and nobody is happy.
Was just out of town only 1 hour away(near Ottawa) Stocked up on sugary drinks and other groceries that a would have bought in Chicago until the Preckwinkle tax. Also gased up for 2.19 gallon. Cook county is a taxing joke.
Hey, SCC, maybe you could add a new link on the main page to list decent store just across the border from Crook County.
I live in Nashville, TN. Tons of people between here and the KY border (39 miles away) routinely go grocery shopping in KY, where they don't tax food (one of the prices we pay for having no state income tax !!). One good trip a month, and combine it with a family outing, and you save a ton over a year's time, just making a drive you already would have made anyway. Wal-Mart and Kroger just over the KY border normally has far more TN tags in their lot than KY tags.
Screw those idiots. Don't buy one thing in Crook County that you don't absolutely have to. Let them drown in their own swill. Serves the mofo's right.

Because his mentor Lt. One "N" was allowed to retire unscathed by IG Joe Forgivesome...
Stores are getting sued right and left for taxing coffee and other drinks that are not supposed to be subject to the tax.
If a major class action has not yet been filed, it's gotta be in the works. Too many hungry lawyers. This is a classic example of one where the lawyers will get their cut, and the class members will get a $.50 coupon at the store of their choice. Meanwhile, Crook County has to defend it.
I. Can't. Wait.
Residency something to think about.kell
Toni is soon going to realize that even if this outrageous tax gets shitcanned she'll never truly be able to unting that bell.
She fucked up and fucked up big.... so big in fact she's even got the Sheeple to turn on her.
Toni will not change or cancel the tax. Her ego will not allow it and will be viewed as a failure
PorkWinkle is dumbfounded. The voting democrat usually go along with sharing the wealth.
Time to prepare for a liquid tax.
Hopefully this will be PorkWinkle's Bilandic.

Be careful if you go to Elk Grove Village for pop. Only a small part of EGV is in DuPage rest in Cook county. I went to Jewel there to buy pop found out it was in Cook county. Was out there looking for a store in DuPage and they charged $1.98 for a 2 liter bottle of pop. Not good as my Jewel in Chicago was charging 79 cents for the same bottle of pop. 79 cents plus the 68 cents tax equals $1.47 a half dollar a bottle cheaper at Jewel in chicago
From Wikipedia below about the counties. Was surprised the cities adjoins Chicago seem to have part in Cook rest in Lake or Dupage
Elk Grove Village is a village located in northeastern Illinois adjacent to O'Hare International Airport and is a near northwest suburb, touching the city of Chicago. The village is home to Chicago's largest industrial park, and is home to one of the nations largest industrial parks. It is one of the Chicago metropolitan area's principal villages due to its large industrial park, located on the western border of the village. The village is located primarily in Cook County with a small portion in DuPage County
Living on the s/w side of Chicago and been shopping in Dupage/Will counties and Indiana for years. I have not spent one penny on plastic bag tax, bottled water tax, soda tax, or ammo/gun tax. I have family near Indiana and Dupage that I visit a couple times a month anyways, so I keep my house stocked with water, ammo, and soda. F/U Bullwinkle and Rahm on your bullshit taxes! There are thousands like me that you're not getting tax money from!
Looks like the tax will be going away. Either that or most of the democrats will come next election. To bad both can't go away along with 25 aldermen, and limitless terms.
Seems the only chumps are the city voters and not the aldermen. Right, Taliaferro?
There were 8 other fools that voted with her as well. Terminate them all.
6 miles to Du Page down 55 from Harlem.
From Harlem and 55 its 14 miles to Will..
Fuck you, Taxwinkle and Rahm and Illegals and Shootings..
The bill to make Illinois a sanctuary STATE is on Rauner's desk. Please everyone reading call govennir's office vote NO and do not
ignore bill or it goes into affect. 2177820244. Come on fight back we have rights too.
Repeal it all. I don't care anymore. I'm tired of it. As a Northwest Side of Chicago resident, I went to Wisconsin last week. Woodman's right off I-94 on Highway 50 in Kenosha. 1.5 hours of total driving. $150 in groceries for $4 in tax, $100 in alcohol for $5.50 in tax. Filled up the car at $.20 less per gallon, bought smokes for $4 less per pack, and got lunch. Additional bonus of all of this was the people are nicer and friendlier than Chicago, Cook County. All this to show my family how much money we will save, and friendlier people we will be surrounded by, upon my retirement and our move from this armpit I used to be proud to serve and protect. And the reason I don't care is fairly obvious. I will not shop in either Chicago, Cook County, or Illinois anymore.
SS
Think about it.
Peter Silvestri votes against the tax.........so he's covered regarding re-election because he can say he was against the tax.
Now:
According to the article and post, Peter Silvestri is not a co-sponsor of legislation to get rid of the tax.
Later:
People need to wake up to the wizard behind the curtain. It all smoke and mirrors.
Ouch, that hurts.
America
Less than a mile away from Indiana. Do most of my shopping there anyway, so screw you Prickwinkle.
Look now at the food store soda aisles after Crook County.IL soda tax .. empty .. fellow church goer says his Jewel is cutting hours because of reduced business
"a poll released Wednesday shows 87% of Cook County residents are upset about the new one cent per ounce sugary drink tax"
The other 13 % are LINK Card abusers that pay no tax anyway!! If this pop is so fucking dangerous why can it be "Bought" with a LINK Card??
Just got back from shopping live in Garfield ridge went to Costco on 22nd street in oakbrook area dupage county pleasure to shop there! Was at Jewel on archer in Garfield ridge yesterday store was like a ghost town, girl told me that sales are down 60% since this ridiculous tax and that is not only pop sales but entire store! Friend is a Pepsi driver told me they had meeting this morning and will be looking at layoffs starting in September if this tax persists! It is over toni you ruined more you and rahm have that in common complete idiots you guys should hook up, seeing how your husband divorced your crazy ass years ago,and since rahm likes wedding dresses why not dress for your wedding toni? rahm could wear the dress "If the dress fits you must acquit" and toni since you look like an ugly crazed man you can assume that role! Would be a "marriage maid in heaven/hell"
If Sessions ever straps the "testicular fortitude" on finally and sends in the feds and places you toni and rahm under arrest for the crimes you have committed from ignoring federal immigration laws costing us taxpayers multi-millions in lost federal assistance starting 01SEP17, the sooner arrests occur at city hall the county building the sooner we can "make Chicago and crook county great again"
The core of everything right is "law and order" and the elected here bastardize the police and the carnage continues and the blood flows everywhere due to elected and of course our terribly incompetent hack/clout filled joke of an exempt structure!
A real pleasant experience shopping outside of cook county. I hope it catches on!

A court decision to far.

Dont forget the restaurants im will be eating out when I do my shopping out of the county.

Al Qaeda has drawn a bullseye on a new American target: Subway trains

So we got "lil kim" from north korea and "fat kim" and the crazy arabs here along with the rest of rahms in "illegal criminal chiraq" here as our states attorney everything will be great/sarcasm off!!
Thanks Toni you're more hated than Rahmn, how is that possible
A tax too far indeed. Could this be the start of the "great white flight" out of Chicago and Cook County? I grew up in this city but feel more of an outcast as time goes by. Once you're outside the Cook County limits you get the stink of this city off you. People are friendlier, stuff is cheaper and I feel a greater sense of freedom. Over-priced sports venues, brainwashed hipsters, corruption, inflation, taxes and the need to pander to Dude Inc. have tarnished the appeal of Chicago. I'm seriously thinking of buying a house out in the boonies and just renting a studio apartment in the city to meet the residency requirement. This isn't an adolescent act of rebellion or fantasy but simply a matter of survival. Let's face it...things aren't getting better, only stays the same or worse. Can the FOP be legally punished for offering a class in how to curtail the residency requirements and new taxes I wonder? Our FOP president seems to be a master on this subject matter at least.
Its not just the pop tax Lake County has no Alcohol Tax,
You just know County Commissioner Daley all in for more taxes ...just like his brother ....dumbass Ritchie
Vehicle tax is another. No matter where you purchase you pay our home tax rates. You save money by moving out of cook county altogether. Residency has to end. This is insane.
OT
Do not speak with anyone from FOP at any incident.
It can and will be used against you if it goes to trial.
Just look what happen to VanDyke
Only speak with attorney then privilege applies.
You hard chargers better write this inside of your hat.
Fill up Toni and the rest of the other scumbags front yards with "Sacks-Tinkle" in old liter bottles. It's time for the "Sacks-Tinkle Pee Party!

How about you don't smoke or drink pop and also don't dare to preach to a another American about what they choose to do. Live your life and let the next guy live his, one of the biggest problems we face in this country is way too many people who have decided if something is against their way of thinking then no one should do it. I'm a citizen of the U.S.A. and would thank-you to mind yours and I will mind mine.I also don't smoke or drink pop but if the guy next to me does that's up to him. This keeps up and the next thing you know people will be telling others they can't own firearms, fly the flag or wear red hats with the Presidents name on them.
Hey Lionel Hutz @ 8/11/2017 03:27:00 PM!
Just think of how much better it would be OUT OF STATE!

8/11/2017 03:01:00 AM
From the maps I've checked, most of Elk Grove is in Cook County. Can you give a specific store and location to scope out? Thanks.
No but I can tell you one thing, the Jewel which usually has good prices and sales on pop, the one right off Arlington Heights Road is in Cook County Pop tax applies there
Healthy taxpayers on the west & south side don't seem outraged by this tax.
You are an asshole. Plenty of us west & south siders hate this fucking tax!

Looks like the tax will be going away. Either that or most of the democrats will come next election. To bad both can't go away along with 25 aldermen, and limitless terms.
Seems the only chumps are the city voters and not the aldermen. Right, Taliaferro?
8/11/2017 11:30:00 AM
Wish that were true. The dems are locked up in Chicago. No republican will be mayor or Cook County president Aint going to happen and that's why Toni can get away with it
Stores are getting sued right and left for taxing coffee and other drinks that are not supposed to be subject to the tax.
If a major class action has not yet been filed, it's gotta be in the works. Too many hungry lawyers. This is a classic example of one where the lawyers will get their cut, and the class members will get a $.50 coupon at the store of their choice. Meanwhile, Crook County has to defend it.
I. Can't. Wait.

Hey I have an question. A liter is 33.814 oz, so if its a penny an ounce tax to they charge 33 cents or round it off to 34 cents when purchasing a two liter of soda?
8/11/2017 08:41:00 AM
They round it off to 34 cents and charge you 68 cents pop tax when buying a 2 liter Remember 2 liter is twice as much as a 1 liter
Or the could add 33.814 multiply that by 2 which equals 67.628 and round that off to 68 cents

8/11/2017 08:25:00 AM
Lake is more than 20 minutes down Milwaukee Ave Hope that drive a large SUV to hold all the purchases to save a few dollars andf spend gas money and time isn't worth it You have to stock up

8/11/2017 10:03:00 AM
Amen to that. Just bought a house in Lebanon, TN and have already looked at the trip to Franklin, KY for shopping. I love it!!! Can't wait to settle there...only 2 more weeks in this shithole state, county, and city.
Cook county has one of the highest sales taxes in the USA. These taxes are unacceptable. Our political class has forgotten 246 years ago our fore fathers fought a war because of unfair taxes. Taxation without representation!

If you can afford it, do not hesitate. Heading out of town, seeing this stank-hole in my rear view mirror and getting to spend time in the boonies makes for pleasant rdo's, if they are not canceled, and allows for a replenishment of my peace of mind reserve. Even in mid-winter or facing the current home improvement task, it is still fun to go and be there. It is pleasant, quiet and void of Dude Incorporated. The time spent there recharges my batteries and makes me ready to take the street and idiot white-shirts all in stride. It is better than alcohol or prescribed psychotropic assistance and it is entirely legal. I'd give you a couple of locale suggestions, but I like the peace and quiet. Putting it on blast could cause too many people to disrupt the pleasant atmosphere. I looked for a long time, but finally found my piece of heaven. The search was well worth it. You will find one, but when you do, remember, do not tell a soul. Good luck to you.

Rhams fans the Flames over North Korea
Again, out of their league by political hacks that have never served in the U.S. Military. Good citizens should be more afraid of gang bangers and getting shot than by Lil Kim's North Korea.
Who is paid to copy and paste this nonsense?????
Really
Signed The Pentagon Coffee Maker
How can Rham suppress a video- A CRIME and escape Jail>???
Now Rham wastes Millions suing the Feds over Federal Law
HAVE WE HAD ENOUGH????????????
Isnt Rham our Own North Korean Lil Kim
The politicians should pay the difference in funds the city no longer gets for being do nothing, unqualified dummies. People are leaving the city and state in droves and they do nothing but figure out how to keep their lucrative salaries and raise every year while laying off employees and cutting benefits to the cities residents.
Didn't Toni win her seat repealing Todd Stroger's one cent sales tax increase?

Rham's an apologist for North Korean Despots
The Korean Community should be insulted
Rham is saying that South Korea shouldn't be defended
Here's what I did. Needed new sandals so I went to Cabelas by Hammond right off I-80. While I was there bought six boxes of 9mm at 9.99 a box of 50. Bought 2 boxes of .45 cal. At 14.00 a box. Bought some smokes, soda and then gas at 2.21 a gallon with a car wash. All money used to go to Crook County. Even when Taxwinkles tax get repealed I will still shop in Indiana or Will county. Overall, taxes are much cheaper anyway. Fuck that dude Taxwinkle
I will tax you into prosperity and you will thank me for it !!

We've been going out to the Costco in Oak Brook for some time to do our larger stock-up shopping. How can you calculate the number of bags you'd need in town? .......and we actually don't drink a lot of soda, but the unfairness of this tax (no tax on Starbucks sugary drinks, etc.) has us really mad. Lately, our Mariano's never has any carts either, maybe they planned ahead.
Sneed already defending shrekwinkle by accusing boykin of "skull duggery" if he runs against her. How's it feel Precky? She sends her lackeys out to politically damage people she doesn't like. About time she gets it back in kind.
Dupage starts right on the S.W.corner of York (Elmhurst Rd.) and Devon in Elk Grove Village. On the western fence of O'hare Airport, On this corner stands a Thortons gas station which does thousands a day in gas and smokes.I love living on the far southwest side of Des Plaines, another bonus for me is because im west of Mt.Prospect Rd.that puts me in E.G.Township and I get a pretty good deal on my property taxes because of the Industrial Park in E.G.

Took a short drive to 143rd and Bell Road. Jewel with no pop tax. Cheaper gas. Cheaper cigarettes. I thought about the tax as a payment into my husbands pension but when I found out SNAP people don't have to pay the tax, I thought screw it. Rather have the money go further outside of Crook County.
The tax isn't the only thing that is going to have launched. She laid off hundreds of middle income employees, but none of her 6 digit cronies were put on hiatus.
Is black coffee considered part of sugary tax?
I'm in Elgin every Sunday. Sometimes I shop at the Jewel there for convenience. My household goes through four or five 12-packs of soda (DIET soda) a week. That's about $7 additional tax on top of the already existing soda tax and Cook County and Chicago sales taxes. So now I'm not only buying my soda in Elgin, I'm also buying my weekly groceries there. Chicago is for shopping for last-stuff and perishables as long as this tax is in effect.
I can't remember the last time I filled up my car's gas tank in Chicago. Now I'll be traveling for soda as well.
When I'm at a restaurant in Cook County, I can order a Diet Coke and pay tax on it. Or I can order an iced tea and add the very same sweetener that's in Diet Coke and not pay tax.
So much for "it's for the children" and "it's to combat obesity."
Especially since Kool-Aid, which is nothing but sugar, water and food coloring, isn't taxed. So much for the fat kid defense, eh?
To off topic: the inspector general finished that investigation over a year ago. It's done. I'm sure you're sad you dumbshit
My wife works in Dupage Co., she fills up in gas and stocks up on beverages there too. We refuse to pay Cook Co. or City of Chicago bag taxes.

One bit of advice,
Take a cooler or two full of ice for the frozen and refrigerated foods when you go shopping out of county/state.
No need to risk Salmonella while you save money.

And, six months later she re-instated it!!!!
Boycott cook county! Don't spend any money in cook county and if you can manage it spend your money out of state. Just like rahmie he has a place in south west Michigan. I wonder if there's a wedding dress stored there?

I drove to Munster Indiana to visit a friend and took the opportunity to fill up my gas tank and shop at the Jewel right on Ridge Rd, along with most of the people who reside on the south side of Chicago. The store manager was stocking shelves with soda(which were empty after the weekend) and said it has been great for his store because people are doing all of their shopping while they are there, which is exactly what I did and I saved quite a bit of money. I also picked up cigarettes for a couple of my neighbors while I was there, so not only did I not shop in Cook County, I didn't shop in Illinois.

You may have been in line with me there. And if you go west 1 red light, Bomber's BBQ is good for lunch. Go east to Indianapolis Av (1 1/2 miles) and Minor-Dunn has great burger, Blue Top Drive-in has great food, bring it to your car, and a bunch of Classic cars on display on the weekend nights....Oh, BTW, entirely Republican clientele, also. Cabela's right there too, for all your ammo needs..No FOID needed. Been looking at houses in Highland and Schererville. Nice ones for $150-200K and property taxes under $2K year. Seriously thinking of it.

I sure hope so, but it ain't gonna happen. Her constituents aren't paying the tax and there are plenty of other things she's done, but it won't mean anything to them. Similar to Hillary
Highland and Schererville IN are great and the housing market isn't too expensive. Way more bang for your buck. I personally like Dyer and they are going to be hiring next year.
I just saved 19.18 in soda tax up north.
Choke on it bullwinkle.
Well I know there won't be a Republican mayor or board president any time soon, but right now I'll just settle for a few different democrats. These 2 are the worst ever. One has to pander to the criminal community and one chooses to. Sad.
Therefore, quite sensibly, the district won't let Ferrante have his way.
pointed out that health is the flexibility of an organism to respond to.
To me, obfuscation abounded, and probably intentionally so.
