A Chicago police officer shot a man Saturday night in Austin after he fled and pulled out a gun, authorities said.
Police were called to disperse a large crowd around 10:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Austin Avenue. One man ran off and officers chased him, according to Chicago police, who said the man then turned with a gun in his hand and an officer shot him in the legs and hand.
The man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in fair condition, police said. An officer was taken to a hospital for observation, but police did not say why or whether he was the officer who shot the man. A weapon was found at the scene.
No word on where the violence interrupters were assigned and why they weren't where an obvious bit of violence was taking place.

All these shooting! I thought superintendent Snelling has everything under control.
Sounds similar to the 011TH district incident and now that officer is fighting for his job.
Hopefully, copa doesn't recommend termination to the officer involved in this incident.

I get it. We are the police! We have a job to do, but unfortunately the powers that be have handcuffed us and made this job miserable. Go to work answer your jobs (only chase for certain reasons) back each other up and go home. If you can, get an inside spot!
This city and department doesn't want us doing proactive police work. We can not be discipline for not pursuing, it's in the order.

Anyone know of any good paying jobs without a college degree. I don't know how much longer I can do this. My dream job turned into a nightmare. This was a calling for me, now I have a big love and hate relationship wiht it. I should have left CPD years ago, but I listened to some family members and stayed. They said the city will get better, ride the strom. While it's not getting better and the storm has turned into hurricanes!

"violence interrupter". I mean where do you even start with that crap? Is it a resume position? Whats the qualifications? Where does one apply for that "job"? How are they paid? It there a time clock? Whats the payroll code? Where do they pick the checks up? Or is it cash?
And no one can prove a single incidence of violence prevented or averted.
Might be the biggest financial scam in decades and the media in this city has zero interest in reporting or investigating this.
Please develop hobbies and interests outside of the job. Yeah, the job sucks but the entire world doesn't. Pull back and see the big picture. Develop a friend circle outside of the police. Get a dog. Get help.

Shotspotter would have had the same results. The officer would be safe, and uninjured. The then known shooter could be apprehended at a later date.

There are lots of smaller departments in red states looking for officers. Many ask for a degree but are quite willing to waive it for someone with experience.
Yeah, you will make less money but living somewhere that considers you an asset, not an asshole, will also cost you less - in dollars as well as in mental & physical health.

The substance sent to the lab for testing came back negative for narcotics! Wonder if this kid will get his job back? Maybe sue the city?
Get in the union trades lad. Opposite the cpd,the only thing that matters is your work. Race and gender mean squat. Generally the boss IS the smartest guy in the room not some political hack. Basically sgts pay with all the overtime you want. Cadillac bennies with fully funded pensions and far better health insurance than cpd. Pension and medical paid to union by employers. No politics just getting the job done. Trades are starving for bodies, at one time hard to get in now they advertise on tv. Gen xyz aren't interested in manual labor. Union trades for city is just OK, pay is the same but bosses are political morons like cpd and live to ruin your day. As a retired copper with over 30 years on the job, here is my opinion. Get out now while you can. Go to a red State like Florida that appreciates the Police. Some will tell you to go to the burbs, to the State or County. Don’t. While they do not have COPA, they are ruled by the same Police hating liberals that want to see you fired or jailed. Besides, to be honest, unless you go to a burb out south like the Filipino guy from 025 did, you will be bored out of you mind.

Learn a trade.
Learn a second language (to expand your client base).
Live in any part of the country where you want to be when not working.
Use the trade skills as side gigs to supplement police earnings.
Use the trade skills for full-time income if policing falls thru for you.

I was experiencing the exact same professional angst. I quit cpd, moved to red state, and got a police job, and now I love it again. Illinois, Crook County, and Chicago are very toxic places.
Back in the day if you didn’t blow a a solid .1 they would have sent you home
