When in Doubt....

....create another tax!

  • Chicago residents and businesses would pay $1.25 for every package they have delivered — whether from Amazon or another business — under a proposed ground delivery tax that could generate as much as $275 million a year.

Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th), chair of the City Council’s Committee on Economic and Capital Development, wants cash-strapped Chicago to follow the trail blazed by Colorado and Minnesota, which have imposed similar delivery fees.

Villegas’ ordinance calls for a ground delivery tax of $1.25 per package that would be imposed “on the purchaser of the tangible personal property being delivered … without regard to the number of items within” each package.

We'll just have everything delivered to our suburban dwelling offspring. Then we'll get to visit the grand kids more. Or Amazon opens up a bunch of those drop-off lockers at suburban sites that are just over the border - Oak Lawn, Oak Park, Bridgeview, Elk Grove, Niles, Norridge, etc. and you pick up your stuff there for free.

Amazon delivers 20 packages to a complex, taxes a quick $25 tax for CTU.

Excellent idea, SCC. The packages will be safer. I am less than 10 minutes from the grandchildren, but there is a grandchild tax as in "What you got for me?"!!!!!!

Bottled Water Tax? How much bottled water does ANYONE buy in the City limits? Wasn't it reported that Costco just over the border is the biggest seller of bottled water in the area? If not the whole Country? Bet those rancid fucks spent the "predicted" tax dollars before they were received, and that the revenues were lower than expected so they have to raise some tax... ad nauseum.

Cigarette tax? How many degenerate smokers "make a run" over to Indiana for a car load of cigarettes? Then they split up everything with their friends... ZERO tax for Prickwrinkle & Co.

They (Democrats) never know how to cut anything from a budget. It's always Tax, Fee, Tax, Fee, Tax, Fee. There are tons of things they could cut from a budget that would never affect the day to day, nor the long term operations.

Chicago is cash strapped because of overspending...not because of a lack of taxes. I can't expect a bunch of locally elected CPS graduates to understand that. They are overstepping their powers and authorities making Chicago unbearable to live in.

So, yet another class of business is required to perform the collections of taxes at the point of sale, yet another line item added to the billing document handed to the purchaser, yet another pocket chande pilfering by the taxation nation of the petty pocket pickers' fiefdom of leeching lads and lasses, all mincing about wearing their sticky fingered fancy skin tight stylish attire.

Results: the taxings shall continue until those who provide honest services via honest employment are eliminated by honest disgust at being used to facillitate dishonest pilferings. Aka, reduced business activities = layoffs follow.

How much money do they waste forcing those stupid bike lanes on our streets? The anti-automobile progressive loser is pissed off at the world because they can't afford a car. They have pay $3,000 rent a month to live in Trendyville and also pay off their college loan for that super useful degree in 19th Century Feminist Political Thought. They just want to make everyone as miserable as they are. Leave our streets alone, pinhead.

How about the bag tax? I can proudly say I have never paid it. Either brought my own or go to a burb and shop. Same will be true for this new tax. Not much deep thinking behind it. My shopping will be safer if I use a locker now, which I will, in my suburban neighborhood nearby with a damn locker. Where are the social justice paraders? Oh wait, Soros probably won't pay for demonstrators against Democrats.

Tax the rich. Only problem is that money is mobile. You can move it out of the reach of the tax man. Perhaps the governor can explain how off shore tax shelters work to hide your wealth from the tax man.

Is this Constitutional? Is this not “… Affecting Interstate Commerce…””?
Something in Article IV about “… No State shall tax the imports from another State…?

11/09/2025 05:06:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

CORRECTION: Article 1, Section 9, prohibits one State from taxing goods from another State. Any sort of Delivery Fee on interstate commerce is a de facto Tax, and is probably Unconstitutional. A Delivery Fee solely on intrastate commerce— from one Illinois address to another Illinois address that never leaves the State of Illinois— is definitely Constitutional.
