ISP needs new cars - guess how many and guess how long it'll take?
More than 1,000 Illinois State Police vehicles are near the end of their life, but the agency might not be able to replace them anytime soon.
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services recommends that vehicles in the ISP fleet be replaced every eight years or 150,000 miles, but it’s taking much longer, ISP Director Brenden Kelly told a Senate appropriations committee last month.
“At this rate, with this funding mechanism we have, it will take about 18 years to replace our fleet,” Kelly said. “So while we’re not expecting a miracle in terms of some legislation to solve that for us permanently, we recognize that we’re going to have to continue to, piecemeal, find those sources of funding where they can be found.”
And given that the lifespan of the cars is around eight years, the first vehicles replaced will have been themselves replaced at least once, perhaps twice.
It's a never ending sinkhole.

Another 5 cents added to the gas tax or 50 dollars added to license plate renewals should fund those new cars and replace the money diverted to housing and feeding the illegals.
So the rise in vehicle sticker costs to fund the ISP vehicles but not the equipment has not worked out?

2008 and again in 2024 certain IL license plate fees were increased, specifically, to add to the funding toward the purchase ISP vehicles. Are we to assume now those funds have been detoured to additional "pet" social service projects?
The state rather give illegals money. ISP might have to use ride share or public transportation. That prick of a governor needs to go!
The new state cars have a butt ugly paint design. They look dreadful. Wonder how many times that design will change over the years? At least they aren't painted with rainbows and unicorns. I like the old paint designs better. Bet Chicago area is the last to receive a new car. Why bother, the ferals will destroy them anyway.

It has to be CMS. Whenever that monstrosity of an incompetent agency gets it's fingers into something, it blows up. I knew troops in the 80's that had squads that would be traded in around 70,000 miles. Could still bring a good buck at an auction. CMS comes in and now squads coming up on 200,000 miles is the norm. Not good resale material. They fucked up duty weapon resale as well. When they replaced the S&W 439 with the S&W 5904, you could buy your pistol at the used gun price. Same thing when they dumped the 5904 for Glock. My buddy retired 15 years ago and was asked if he wanted to buy his Glock. He asked how much. Full MSRP! For a used weapon that's been banged around getting in and out of a car, etc. No thanks he said. When CMS comes in the shit show begins. An agency full of jobs for political favors, staffed with hacks.

Part of the license plate fee goes toward ISP vehicles per state law. So where is the money going in violation of the law and who approved it?

STOP the take home cars especially plain clothes personnel. When’s the last time you saw ISP on the tollways, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Ryan, Edens?

I heard that when the illegals get their drivers licenses the state gives them a new car and free insurance for life.

If the money (about 8 million a year) doesn't get spent in that fiscal year it can be swept by the gov into any other fund to do what he wants. Since 2020 its happened 2 times. Then a now retired 1st deputy director decided to merge districts into troops. Well when you do that you double even quadruple the size of the area u can be assigned to. You now have people living in lake county driving to grundy county to work at times how the fuck did that help. They also merged D15 to toll road into troop 3. Guess what the 300 or so cars that the tolls paid for are now paid for by you guessed it the state fund and the cars they had at the time of the merger were sold by the toll way at auction so the state didnt by them because they were more than they wanted to pay. Or the director thought the isp should get them for free..................
In New York the tax payer paid $82,000 for each illegal alien.

I drive the toll way from Indiana to Wisconsin weekly. Never see a cop.what I do see is death race 2000, groups of high end fast cars blasting about 130 mph weaving in and out cutting everyone off repeatedly. Most people who pay 60-80 kfor a car don't abuse them like that. Stolt cars or 17 yr Olds with their first hooptie. Some dangerous shit. When I was a hot rod kid in the 60s and 70s there were cops everywhere running radar. Tickets I had to pay cuz I'm not a protected group, insurance increases for fender benders and paying my own repairs put an end to my youthful exuberance. No more today, buy it burn it,walk away from it and declare bankruptcy. It's the murikan way.
