HQ Parking Violations

What happened to taking care of our own? I don’t mean covering up wrong deeds but just plain ol’ professional courtesy.
I went to 35th and Michigan today to clear from medical and wasn’t allowed in the lot cuz it was full and so I parked in front of HQ (granted I know we aren’t supposed too) I had my ID around my neck, ran inside and cleared. There was a squad behind me saw me get out, I looked right at her. I came back out to a ticket, a ticket from one of “our” own. I thought it was an Aprils fools joke. Nope! Unreal that we give our own Parker’s now.
Do they still only have four spots for the Medical Section patients? A Department of 10,000 Officers (allegedly), a few hundred on the Medical at any given time....and four spots for them to check in and see their nurse.
There's got to be a simple fix for this.

I would have photographed all the illegally parked squad cars and staff parked in lot fire lane and handicapped spots. Then make a big deal of this.
no one parks their personal car there... park on the side, you're going to get cleared so that means you're able to walk, and like you said, in and out, right? Do the thing that doesn't require favors.
I was a sergeant at HQ about ten years ago. I walked the lot and came up with some simple ideas to increase parking capacity. Remove all the sidewalks (no other parking lots have them) and all the landscaping (grass and trees). Pave those areas and mark them as spaces. I estimated it would create about 100 spots. I wrote up a proposal and gave it to the Director of Fleet and Facility Management (2FM), who worked in my bureau. She had a take home car and a designated spot, so parking wasn't likely a concern for her. Insert the sound of crickets here.
And speaking of those 4 spots. I am very punctual and always early. I got to the medical section for my 8 am appointment at 720am and there were 2 cars parked in the medical section spots already. I got inside and I was the only one there. Nobody seeing any nurses yet so who was parked in these spots. I don’t know but those same cars were still parked there when I left at 815 am. So some insensitive asshole is taking our spots while a lot of us limp in from far away. Who monitors these spots?
Of course there is a simple fix for this. But the arrogant exempt staff could care less as this has been going on for years.
It’s everyone for themselves. The bosses made it that way. The sooner everyone understands that the better everyone will be. Remember duty to intervene and report. It’s the law!
This is actually negotiable with your union. The honorable grand gizzard of the fop has the power to negotiable parking for employees. My union has done this for years in our contracts. Gotta work downtown or other congested shitholes in the urban jungle ? The employer HAS to find safe and close parking and pay for it. And the city has lots more pics away money than our contractors do. There is labor law precident, the employer demands you come to his work place he has to find parking for you. Tell kitty Kat to come out from the food truck and get to work. Heat and ac and water and sanitation are also established perks of federal labor law but that's a story for another day. No one is above the law ! I saw a big fat slob say that on tv recently so it must be true 👍.

You knew you couldn’t park there but you did it anyway, right in front of the officer!!! That was a big fuck you to the officer! Why didn’t you talk to the officer and ask for a play? There is a good chance the officer was detailed there because assholes like you.
You’re an employee number. When I went to the medical 2 years ago it was the same. I had to pay for parking on state st and use my crutches to get over to the building. But I didn’t complain. You illegally parked like a fool. You should have had your car towed.

Another lesson learned here on SCC. There is no "professional courtesy" in this dept because it's not a professional police dept. Hasn't been in a long fucking time. The professional thing for the driver to do would have been to find a metered spot and pay $2 for 15 min like every other taxpayer. The parking situation at HQ for coppers and firefighters by HQ has been dreadful for over 15 years.
And the professional thing for the lazy PO to do would have been to get the driver's attention before going in and say "hey the bosses here are assholes...they order us to ticket...it's a good idea not to park here."
Remember, if that PO gets her parker she may get her early duck...just like so many other entitled and lazy coppers that hand out tickets to get their "perks". Me? I haven't wrote a parker or mover in years. Not unless I have to. We should not be generating revenue for a city that hates us.
If you park illegally in front of the police headquarters then the officers who do security there will determine that to be high risk. They have to ask for a beat car to issue a ticket. Next time take public transportation. Get well soon.
The Robbins Police Department is more accommodating and has more accommodations then this shit department. Fucking embarrassing!

Solve a parking issue? Not happening. They'll add 6 unused bike lanes instead or another bus zone, rather than a few 15 min parking signs or revamp parking spaces.
You should have gone and spoken to her out of curiosity. She could have been ordered to write everyone that parks there a ticket.

First off,, there are Multiple I Clear messages about illegally parking infront of HQ and you will get ticketed. Go around the corner and pay the 5 dollars for a metered spot. Yes, there are barely any spots for Medical. Look for a spot like everyone else. We all know they should’ve built a garage years ago.
Why didn't they ever build the lot as a 3 story facility. Stupid planning.
Rest assured, some white shirt mope instructed a squad to be out front doing nothing but writing tickets since Im sure they kinda figured "Our Own" would park in front. Seems like entrapment. Im sure it was also an ass kissing 3 yr wonder who wrote it too, or simply just an ass kisser, which would be more accurate.
I recently retired a few months ago and they called me to come pick up my retirement star..why should I?..so I can be refused to park in the lot and face a ticket as well...shove the star up your ass...i have my retirement ID.

That ticket writer will be a commander in no time. I recall hearing once that Cook County sent some suits to a class to write city issued parkers to deputies @ the jail in their “secured” parking lots knowing full well they had too few spots. I asked the question why city tickets, not county? If the deputies paid the county saw no revenue and the fines were higher. Nope it turned out it was just to annoy the deputies, the city hearing officer tossed them when they appeared with proof of being on duty. SMH
I suggest the officer contest the ticket. Doing it off duty and submit the overtime slip. When the supervisor refuses the OT, request the Union to file a complaint with Dept and City. Document the entire matter. And then show the four medical parking spots and then FOIA request the day in question asking how many department members checked into the medical section that day?
And ask how much time each member spent at the medical section?
It’s all documented…….showing how poorly the Department treats the members. I have witnessed member who can barely walk trying to make their way through lot or parking blocks away. Once I watched a member having to unload in front of 35th street using a wheelchair? This is crazy?

Well instead of “running inside to clear from medical” and parking in a tow zone, all you had to do was park legally and put about a dollar in the box and do what you have to do. One dollar is nothing compared to the full benefits and pay you’re getting while on medical and still able to “run” in. Be thankful you aren’t on the type of medical that running or walking isn’t an option, which is what those 4 spots are really intended for, and not for officers coming in wearing pajama pants.
I never liked when one of our own puts on duty officers in an awkward place. I was once that officer who was instructed by the superintendent himself to write tickets, so I did. I can’t tell you how many times I had to park and “walk” to headquarters. You took a chance and lost, so suck it up and pay like a grown as man.

If you have ever seen that home and how it is laid out, I seriously doubt that it will ever sell for that price. It also seems Burke got one hell of a deal on his property taxes which usually are 2.5% of selling price and his taxes are well below that, but will not be for the new buyer. Look for Burke to leave the state.

People are forgetting that the 2nd district is full of POLICE hating coppers that will write coppers tickets in a heart beat, they figure screwing other coppers will eventually lead to a promotion, prove me wrong. I've interacted with coppers from 2 and you immediately get that vibe. Years ago while working in a marked car I was following a suspicious vehicle an eight district neighborhood, had to hop a curb in order to continue surveillance, an off-duty coper called 911 to report a marked police car driving on the sidewalk, he identified himself as an off-duty copper from 2, and gave his number in case a Sgt needed to speak to him and/or witness report. This is the type of clowns that are now being hired, and see the screwing other coppers as an opportunity to get promoted. Say it ain't so!!!

It seems to me that opening 100 parking spaces would then allow for 100 more 'dollies' to be taken out of Patrol and assigned to Headquarters.

Thirty years ago I got a ticket for parking while I was in court at 35 California. The kicker I was working and it was a marked CPD vehicle. I asked the clown about it after he wrote it. Goof just said gotta keep my spot. He was the foot guy there

It still blows my mind that they don’t construct a parking garage for that building. This lot has been a nightmare since its inception…also side note just tell the gate person you’re turning around and find/make your own spot. 9 times out of 10 they are full of shit about no spots. You know their dog asses aren’t checking spots regularly

Park a block or two south of the building. I never had a problem finding a spot in the vicinity south of headquarters, on or off duty. You may have to walk a block or two, but it is probably the same distance if you would have been allowed to park in the parking lot. The stretch of the legs will do you good.

For the one who says stay off the medical I’m glad you come to work sick and get everybody else sick. It’s there for a reason. Some do abuse it but it is there to use. Especially as you get older or have something happen YOU will be happy to have it. I bet you got the award for not using the medical. I get payed to relax while u gotta work. Kiss ass!!!

I’ve had the retirement star for 28yrs and never carried it, showed it or had it in my possession. It’s in the sock drawer, I think. Got the ID in my wallet.

Some time in the very early 90s I had worked midnights and came home to my congested neighborhood and went straight to sleep. I was woken up by a neighbor pounding on my apartment door letting me know there was street sweeping and I was one of the few cars left on the block and they were giving tickets. I ran out to find a ticket already stuck on the car. I looked at the ticket and noticed it was written on a taxi and a note from the local foot guy that said “for shame on you officer” with a smiley face. Back when an FOP sticker was worth something. Never had a chance to thank that officer. Miss those times.

You don't even need to park on a meter. Indiana, 34th/Michigan, and 36th have no meters and are as close as the spots on State where people pay.
The exempts had their lines repainted, they have extra wide spots.
Just make sure you don't drive through 024 on midnights. You might get pulled over by an officer who writes everyone yet his own Mercedes is not even registered. He bugs cars all the time and drives them without plates or ever getting any of those cars registered to himself.
My guy drives like a maniac through Devon Ave, runs all the lights yet everyone he pulls over gets a ticket.
