Ambush Threats

  • In a Nov. 24 email sent just hours before the city made public the video of a white police officer shooting and killing the black 17-year-old, an FBI agent said that a confidential informant — who had provided reliable information in the past — reported plans to ambush officers in retaliation for the teen's death.

"Violent rhetoric is high," the FBI wrote. "Due to the recent media spotlight on officer-involved deaths of minorities, there is a lot of anger in the neighborhood served by the Chicago Police Department."
The locations being targeted - 014 and Homan Square. Both locations that had nothing to do with the McDonald shooting. Makes perfect sense.

We don't recall any special attentions or Admin Fax messages or heads-up at roll calls. Must have gotten lost in all the "You were the bestest supernintendo ever!" and "Love Barb" e-mails that flooded GMac's inbox.

Eddie Visits Who?

So a 010 District Tact Team got filmed in 011 subduing a resisting subject. Not being present, and only seeing the tape that the media wants us to see, we will reserve judgement. We will say that if someone bites us and then gets hold of our neck, all bets are off and the Use of Force "model" goes out the window.

There is ZERO right to resist an arrest - lawful or unlawful. It's written into the law to prevent Officers and suspects from getting injured. You might think that CPS could spend a semester on that, preferably in second or third grade before the "justice involved" people (or folks) drop out.

This however....:
  • Eddie Johnson I doubt you read this blog, I doubt you can read, but if you can and do please read this.......YOU ARE A FUCKING COWARD. The 3900 of Grenshaw has been going up everyday and a squad car was just bricked on Sunday. Instead of going to see the injured officer in the hospital you go and check on this shithead who bit and choked an officer, had a bunch of heroin on him, and was on parole. You, and the rest of your spineless minions should be ashamed of yourselves. You are not the police, you are filthy, lying, cowardly politicians.
  • Dear Eddie Johnson, choking is considered deadly force which allows the use of deadly force to combat it. A video shows one of your officers getting bit and getting choked, it also shows another officer SAVING HIS PARTNER'S LIFE. How do you reward this hero? You strip him! I just want to thank you for showing your true colors and want to give you a whole hearted fuck you. You must be so proud of yourself for the damage you are causing. Throwing officers under the bus for completely justified actions, allowing a group of cheaters to continue on. You are a huge disappointment Eddie.
That's merely a sample of the comments claiming the Superintendent went to the hospital to see a felon, in possession of dope, charged with additional felonies, without visiting the officers who got bitten and choked. We hope that this isn't remotely true.

Eddie and the brass are begging people to do police work. Rahm is being forced to recreate the Summer Mobile Unit because crime is exploding across the lakefront. By this time next week, Chicago will be well on its way to 600 murders. Commanders and Deputy Chiefs are openly threatening teams with dumping if they don't come up with numbers. When it goes south and things get hairy, sometimes rules get bent. Sometimes situations spiral out of control. And if something spirals out of control, we aren't saying "sweep it under the rug." There is (and needs to be) a process to in place to review and correct whatever went wrong so it doesn't happen again.

It also needs to have, at the very least, an appearance of impartiality by the brass.

Holy Cross Hospital

This was forwarded to us by a couple of concerned people:
  • To the nurse that was working last night (6/13/16) in the ER at Holy Cross Hospital around 9:00pm, who refused treatment to my husband (right to his face) because he was a COP- shame on you! Not only is that illegal in your line of work BUT it shows the type of person you are deep inside which is straight up UGLY. You should be ashamed and embarrassed of your actions. I pray you or your family NEVER are in need of protection or service from ANY law enforcement.

Thankfully it was not a dire emergency but unfortunately for you, I will be finding out your name and writing a letter to the President of the medical staff at Holy Cross. Not only do you deserve to be reprimanded and called out, but you don't deserve the right to call yourself a nurse; one who is there to help and care for people no matter what! Like all professions, it only takes one bad apple to make a bad name for all but I am way too intelligent and know far too many hard working, dedicated, caring nurses out there to have YOU change my thoughts and feelings about them.

As for the nurse that DID treat my husband, I THANK YOU! I will also be finding out your name a writing a letter of encouragement and praise to have more people like you on their staff! Even though it wasn't a life or death situation (Thank the Lord) my family thanks you for being there to DO YOUR JOB no matter who walked through your ER doors.
There is certainly some sort of licensing board for nurses and this should be brought to their attention immediately. Also, the FOP should be notified along with the Superintendent to see who can start some sort of formal proceedings against the hospital for employing someone who acts this way. A lawsuit shouldn't be out of the question either.

9.5 Fingers, No Balls

He's a runt and a bully, so this shouldn't have been a surprise:
  • Former Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy wasn’t too impressed with how Mayor Rahm Emanuel handled his firing in December, apparently criticizing the mayor’s manhood — or lack thereof — in an email.

Emanuel announced McCarthy’s ouster on Dec. 1. Sixteen days later, Eileen Mitchell, the mayor’s chief of staff, emailed the former top cop a formal termination letter stating his last day on the job would be Dec. 31.

“Please let me know if you have any questions,” wrote Mitchell, who signed the termination letter, which was attached to the email.

McCarthy forwarded the message to his wife, attorney Kristin Barnette, with a cutting remark.

“He didn’t even have the balls to sign it himself,” McCarthy wrote, an apparent reference to Emanuel.
Hell, if our theory about the redacted e-mails is correct, Garry didn't even get to write his own resignation press release.

Unfair

Really Garry? You're a political animal in a political town - everything is unfair:
  • Former Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy suggested his firing was unfair and expressed concern about the future of the Police Department in an email just days after his dismissal, according to records the administration of Mayor Rahm Emanuel turned over Monday under a court order.

In the Dec. 3 email, McCarthy told one of his deputy chiefs, "I only pray that what we've done as a team doesn't get undone by the next person. Life is sometimes unfair, but I have had a great run."

The email was one of 17 emails released Monday by the city, about a dozen of which contained sympathetic messages to McCarthy in the wake of his Dec. 1 firing.
This batch appears to be from a second e-mail account that the City and/or Department "missed" in the first release of records. Funny how that happens.

Funny how McCompStat hopes they don't undo everything he fucked up with his "New York invented police work" attitude, making the Department so top-heavy we have more than three times the number of Deputy Chiefs that J-Fled and most of his predecessors operated with - any efficiency expert will tell you exactly where to make massive cuts when reform is in the air - middle management.

Right on Target

  • A man was killed and at least nine more people were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Monday.

The homicide happened in Englewood on the South Side.
If you take the total number of people shot from the HeyJackass.com website (1694) and divide it by the number of days passed in 2016 (164), you get 10.3 (10.32926829268293 to be more exact).

And that's what we have shot yesterday.

Sticker Shock

  • Chicago homeowners should brace themselves for sticker shock when they open their mailbox at the end of the month: property tax bills on average 13 percent higher than last year.

The big increase is mostly being driven by the record tax increase Mayor Rahm Emanuel engineered last fall to fix city pension funds for police officers and firefighters.

Cook County Clerk David Orr released tax rate figures Monday, revealing the practical effects of City Hall's painful decision. The owner of a single-family home with the current average sale price of about $225,000 can expect to see a property tax bill of $3,633, an increase of about $413.
That would be the "engineered" fix that Rahm cobbled together after Shortshanks and Rahm conspired to ignore decades worth of reports that said the City should stop spending money it couldn't afford and instead, increase their contributions to the pensions, thereby blaming the people the City had made Contracts with and who had been yelling for decades about the funding inadequacies.

Like that chart shows.

But hey, all those bike lanes and planter boxes and sculptures and college campuses andstadiums and Ferris wheels and exhibition halls aren't going to pay for themselves! Spend spend spend and kick that can down the road.

Do Something! Anything!

Such is the screeching from the left following the terror attack in Orlando. In fact, it took the media all of a day to get all the talking points lined up, leading to quite a bit of confusion as to what lies they should tell and what facts they should conceal:
  • The shooter was muslim - he called 911 and pledged his rampage to ISIS. He attended a radicalized mosque. His father ran a cable access talk show where he opined all sorts of anti-American rhetoric. But none of this had anything to do with the shooting according to the media, despite the fact that islam preaches hatred and slaughter of alternative lifestyle individuals. Obama gave a whole speech and never once mentioned "radicalized islam." They have now uncovered stories that the shooter was a frequent patron of the nightclub;
  • Bad NRA Bad! Despite the fact that this guy passed a background check, AND even with numerous instances of spousal abuse AND with threats that led to two FBI investigations, the NRA is somehow to blame. Here's a bright idea - since the system instituted by liberals failed at every turn, and we have yet to see an NRA member implicated in a mass casualty event, why not let the NRA run background checks? They seem to know what they're doing.
  • Ban something! Quick! The media is in full attack mode, spouting all sorts of lies about "fully automatic" AR-15's being the most dangerous weapon since the A-Bomb and how can America let such a high-powered weapon be bought and sold on the streets! The AR-15 is a notoriously under-powered rifle and crappy for hunting any sort of large game. It's a varmint rifle - things about the size of coyotes mostly. It is generally agreed the ballistics tend to be "unpredictable." It also wasn't used in the Orlando attack - rendering everything the media has been saying for two days now a bunch of knee-jerk reactionary lies. The rifle used was a Sig Sauer MCX carbine, which is about as incompatible with an AR platform as you can get,  but why let the truth get in the way of a Big Media Lie?
Here's a handy guide for our media trolls:

Bad laws affect only the law abiding and do nothing to stop criminals. Kind of like Prickwrinkle and Dart emptying the jail and Anita bargaining down sentences to under half of what's written in to the Illinois Compiled Statutes.

Where's the "BGA"?

Something we've been wondering - why Andy Shaw and the Better Government Association aren't asking questions about this:
  • This new police bureaucracy created by Eddie-Rahm at a cost of $700,000 - what exactly are the qualifications of the members?
They'll raise hue and cry over the littlest crap, but when serious questions need to be asked, they're MIA:
  • Charisse Valente is getting $160,000. As General Counsel, she would appear to be at least equal to a Chief's position, so the salary falls into line. Plus, she's gotten mostly favorable reviews from our readers who have dealt with her professionally. She's probably the only one earning her check;
  • Robert Boik, Chief of Staff is getting $175,000. The last few Chiefs of Staff have been appointed directly by the mayor, mostly to answer the phone and tell the Superintendent that "Hey, the mayor is on the phone" after J-Fed though he could ignore calls from City Hall. As we posted before, Boik is elbow deep in the e-mails implicating Barbra Byrd-Bennett in a $20 million bribery scheme. So what does a School supervisor know about police departments? Very little we imagine;
  • Robin Robinson is getting $150,000. Her job is a "newly created position" which means it's a payoff of some sort. Supposedly, she was doing "Community Relations" for free before this, which brought her into contact with Eddie, who decided to shower her with $150K...or Rahm did for whatever reason;
  • Anne Kirkpatrick is getting the biggest slice - $186,000. She is a serial applicant to dozens of other departments. Her largest command was about the size of a single Chicago Police district and while there, she cost taxpayers $1.4 million for ignoring the rule of law and pretty much destroying the cohesiveness of the Spokane department. One rumor is that she was about to file a discrimination suit against Rahm for accepting her application, then stating he was only going to hire a black guy.
Of all of these, what the hell does Kirkpatrick bring to the table? We can't think of a single thing, but here she is, getting $186,000. And the so-called "media watchdogs" sit back and ignore the fact that Rahm is burning through another $700,000, mostly because one of their own is the beneficiary of $150,000. This is probably the same reason the Sun Times has been so soft on Dart - he hires the relatives of media folks and pays them generously (from taxpayer funds) so the media leaves him alone.

Water Rescue

By an off-duty cop and an off-duty fire fighter, friends since high school and their work together as lifeguards:
  • An unexpected rescue in Lake Michigan reminded an off-duty Chicago police detective and a Chicago firefighter of when their friendship began 30 years ago as teammates on their high school swim team and working as lifeguards.

Detective Donovan Jackson and firefighter Rylenski Strong were jet skiing in the lake near the 6500 block of Lake Shore Drive on the South Side about 8 p.m. Friday. They were about to go in for the evening when Jackson encountered a capsized speedboat with a man sitting on top of it and three others swimming in the 60-degree water.

The victims told Jackson that a fifth person went missing when the boat capsized. Jackson called 911 and flagged Strong over. The two sprung into action.

“Once you’re a lifeguard, you’re always a lifeguard, and a cop is never off duty and neither is a firefighter. We happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Jackson said Sunday.

The two quickly found the missing fifth person surviving in an air pocket under the boat. They then shuttled everybody to the shore where emergency personnel were waiting and then went back out to bring in the victims’ boat.
A great job with hypothermia a real threat to those in the water. Right place at the right time and knowing the right thing to do. Well done.

Shocked? Why Are You Shocked?

Doesn't this person read the paper? Is he that unaware of what's going on?
  • The man and woman in their tennis gear had just arrived at the North Side lakefront park Saturday night when they saw a young man being chased.

One of the men following him had a gun in his hand and fired two shots. Another pulled a gun from the front of his waistband and fired once.

“It was the first time I’ve seen gunfire within 10 feet of me,” said the woman, who along with her companion asked not to be identified.

The shooting wounded a 19-year-old man; he got himself to Weiss Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

A trail of blood droplets 80 feet long remained on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of North Recreation Drive, next to the running trail and tennis courts.

“I was shocked that it happened here,” said the man. “I’ve never known this place to have any type of gun violence.”
"...this place"?

You mean "Chicago?"

Listen here Snowflake, there isn't a neighborhood in Chicago that hasn't been touched by some sort of crime lately. Even places traditionally thought of as "safe" are seeing more than their share of burglaries, robberies and the perforated body showing up. Rahm has stripped police from the "quiet" parts of town for five years now.

Of any emotion you might experience at this turn of events, "shocked" ought to be pretty near the bottom of the list.

This Guy Again?

Talk about your lax sentencing:
  • Guess whose favorite police impersonator got locked up...AGAIN, in 011 yesterday? Despite the fact that this time he was only playing security guard, the fact that this goof is out loose, running around just shows you how fucked up the Cook Country court system is. Another disturbing item...he had a CTA supervisor all access key! Where in the hell did he get that?!?!
And a CTA key - that makes us feel so much safer in this era of international terror.

Remember - Broke

  • Chicago is transforming a former industrial site into a 40-acre bike park that officials say will be the first of its kind in the Midwest.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Michael Kelly, the Chicago Park District’s superintendent, broke ground Saturday on the Bike Park at Big Marsh, which will be part of a 270-acre habitat restoration being built about 20 miles south of downtown, near Lake Calumet.
Contract season coming up. We certainly hope there's a folder of all the money this "broke" city is throwing around.

Check Your Deferred Comp

  • Federal authorities are investigating how $2.6 million was taken from the retirement accounts of 58 city of Chicago employees via fraudulent loans.

Nationwide Retirement Solutions, the company that administers the city’s deferred-compensation accounts, spotted a series of suspicious transactions involving about 91 of the 36,000 employee accounts, city officials said Saturday. The accounts are similar to 401(k) accounts.

The company alerted city workers who were victims of the hack and refunded the missing money to their accounts, officials said.
An unsubstantiated rumor that we're starting right now implicates the 5th Floor at City Hall stealing money from accounts to pay for some unspecified Rahm-project next month.

The over/under date for #300 is set to coincide with the summer solstice - 20 June.

And we're taking the day off. Open post

That's the Purpose of Jail

  • Inmates at the Cook County Jail served more than 200 years’ worth of unnecessary time behind bars last year thanks to an overworked criminal justice system.

    [...]

The wait for a case to reach conviction can be so long that many of the jail’s inmates serve more time in Cook County than they are eventually sentenced to spend in prison, what’s known as “dead days.” For instance, if an inmate is convicted to 100 days in state prison, and spends 300 days in Cook County waiting for their case to reach conviction, they will have served 200 dead days.

Last year, inmates served 79,726 dead days at a cost of $143 per person per day in 2015. In other words, people spent 218 years’ worth of unnecessary time in jail at a cost of $11 million to taxpayers.
For the most part, we aren't talking about people who were actually contributing to society. At least the inmates weren't on the street stealing, raping, killing on their own. Is the media finally going to put a price tag on what a sense of safety is worth? What it means to not be robbed? Burglarized? Violated? Killed?

Because once they figure out that cost, maybe we can start policing by numbers that mean something to Rahm - money.

Exam Cheaters Head to Jail

  • From sending SWAT teams into exam centers to arresting rule-breakers, China's public security authorities have been cracking down hard on college entrance examination cheaters

Students caught cheating risk going to prison for as long as seven years, the official Xinhua news agency said.

This week's university entrance exam, whose origins date back to imperial China, determines which university students will attend and what major they're able to select — and as a result, much of their future.
Oh wait - this is the commies in Beijing and not the Inspector General coming down on the IAD LIEutenant Test cheating scandal. Who would have thought that Red China could run a test more legit that the Chicago Police Department? It's a good thing Chicago is so progressive in their examination processes:
  • "There's absolutely no doubt," he said. "Cheating on the [...] exam diminishes the exam's authoritativeness, and could even impact the credibility of the government.
No chance of that here - Chicago government and CPD leadership haven't had any credibility for decades now.

E-Mails Revealed

And the extent of the ass-sucking is amazing - along with the butchery of the English language:
  • I have learned more from you in these 4 years than in my entire previous career. I can list the many of us who would never have gotten a chance to Command had it not been for you. We would have been overlooked and disregarded (due to our obvious incompetence). West, Barbara
  • Our Department is better because of you, and it will be better for a long time because of you. I don't agree with the decision that was made here, but we will soldier on. The personnel that you have put in place will continue your legacy here, and we will not let you down. (after all, policing was invented in New York and your legacy of belittling underlings is a way of life now) McNoughton, David
  • My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. Thank you for you [sic] support and confidence in me. Thank you for your support of the men and women of the department and of NOBLE (especially the exam answers -wink wink) Williams, Eugene
We may have added that stuff in parentheses.

Also amusing, pages 40 and 41 from the Mayor's office on 01 December 2015 are posted as completely blacked out. The letter is from David Spielfogel and the text states:
  • below is a draft. i tried to capture the language as you want. pls let me know if you have edits.
So what is soooo sensitive the day that the entire text has to be blacked out? The day before McCarthy was asked to resign? Could it be that the script for G-Mac's fall was all a carefully put together piece of theater? It might explain why he stuck around Chicago and landed a job with an Outfit connection.

Page through the entire file - there's some amusing stuff there. Plus, you see who's trying to curry favor
