Maurer named Chief of Aviation Dept.

Jimmy Maurer is leaving the Chicago Police Department in 3 weeks time to take over as head of the Aviation Department. Let the rumors begin as to the next Chief of Patrol. We're betting it's going to be Area 3 Chief Dan Dugan stepping in to the spot. Anyone else have an opinion?

But what of the Maurer minions? Who's going to take care of them?

Maurer took care of them already. All three of his sgts left months ago, his office staff all fled too. Only one or two stayed behind to train the new crew, the rest ended up in units

My bet is Tina Skahill, previously Commander of 007, a lawyer, and the newly minted, Deputy Chief of Patrol.

Didn't say she was the best qualified but she'll a hell of alot more qualified than the other recently promoted female.

The powers at City Hall want Mauer out as he's the only one who will call em like he sees em, and not say CAPS is the greatest thing since electricity.

Tina was just made D/C of Patrol. Do you really think they'll promote her so quick? I don't know about that. Dugan has been commander of 2 districts, commander of a unit, ADS (until he traded with Flanagan), chief of an area and he is a meticulous son of a gun. He'd be a good fit. Tina might be too unseasoned and they've already got a woman in charge of the detectives. I can't see the old boys club letting to many women into their playpen.

Not long after my reassignment from the Fillmore District to the Detective Division, I processed some felony arrests by an outstanding young tactical unit officer from the 13th District--Officer James Maurer.

Unlike most of the incompetent political hacks and treacherous sycophants who rose to exempt rank, Maurer was and is widely respected as "the REAL PO-leese"--a stand-up boss with HUGE cojones.

Later, I would have the distinct privilege of serving under his command at Detective Division Area 4 until my "promotion" to (patrol) sergeant.

May God help the troops!.

We are hearing whispers. Whispers of a rumor of a hint of an idea that the mayor isn't going to serve out his term. Tomczak pleading guilty and taking 46 months has unnerved the Hall and may be the first of many. Tomczak being 70 years old had a hand in his cooperation. How many more are going to be willing to take half of 8 year sentence, for racketeering no less, to spill what they know?

Our well trained but unarmed airport police force is only a bunch of potential hostages or soft targets. Our gun-hating Mayor Daley has shit for brains if he thinks that unarmed airport cops have any value beyond writing parking complaints.

If Daley had his way all but his own bodyguards would be disarmed

Sgt John "I got too many medals for my shirt" Hamilton is expected to be promoted to Chief of Patrol.

An insider heard the Supt tell some people we need a guy with lots of medals and knows policing! Get me Hamilton!
