Interesting FOP Meeting

Swung by the meeting today, just for fun (note to FOP: don't bother going through the sign-in books, we didn't bother today --- or did we?) and observed a few things that desperately cried out for commentary:
  • Recently expelled members attempted to gain entry into the meeting, but were rebuffed by the Sergeants-at-Arms. They left looking (in our opinion) kind of satisfied, as if they had proved some point by being denied entry into the building owned by an organization they no longer belong to. Does anyone have any idea what that was all about?
  • Steve Robbins, candidate for the Pension Board, was telling people at meeting that although he was approved by the board to seek reimbursement for up to $5,000 dollars in his bid to become the patrolmen representative, he would not submit any receipts for reimbursement and instead was running out of his own pocket, as his opponents are. This seems to remove what was becoming a large issue in the campaign. Robbins also had copies of all his timecards for the past few years demonstrating that he was, in fact, on his own time and not the city's dime when he attended Pension Board meetings.
Just to be clear, THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF STEVE ROBBINS. But unnamed and anonymous postings on this site and those of other candidates liberally tossed about the accusation that Robbins was on city time when attending meetings. It appears to us that this rumor can be laid to rest.

We make no judgments as to the possible reimbursement of the $5,000 dollars however. It would seem to us that the possibility of recovering out of pocket expenses for an election might enable a candidate to spend a little more lavishly than one who is not backed, but Robbins agreeing not to seek reimbursement renders this moot. We would prefer maybe something along the lines of the Federal Election Commission that provides "matching funds" up to a certain limit for qualified candidates, but that in and of itself would seem to be counterproductive to an endorsed candidacy.

What say the readers? In light of one of the more gentlemanly campaigns conducted by all parties, we are actually taking an interest in this election as we haven't in the past.

UPDATE: Thanks to Fitzgerald, King and the other guys cooking at the BBQ after the meeting. Tasty eats as always.

I for one salute the moderator for not constantly going on about the street and the job and actually expanding into the inner workings of the union and baseball and a dozen other topics. Tierney, you have such a chip on your shoulder. Steve is a great guy, end of story! You are just a stroke.

As for the kids it's not their fault but they don't belong there. It's a union meeting! Do you bring your kids to the bar and let them run around! GET a clue, coppers don't want to hear screaming kids. That's what sitters are for.

Are you going to take the kids to the pension board when your wife has court? SHHHHEEEEESSHHH If you can afford $4000.00 for your campaign bust the wallet out for a sitter. Don't do it for yourself, do it for your kids! You selfish BASTARD!

What in God's name would make you take your kids around all that cigarette smoke and liquor.

Communication is the biggest threat to secret actions. The first order of business for a dictator is control communication. Robbbins got his hand caught in the cookie jar and now he says he is sorry! Robbins you lost the trustee election and now you are going to lose the pension seat anyway the first district needs you so badly. Anybody but Robiins.

The Tierney mailing embarassed Robbins into not taking the $5000.00 of your FOP Money. Robbins sat at tha last Board of Directors meeting when they endorsed him and the FOP voted to give Robbins the money without saying a word. If the money had not become an issue Robbins would have keep his hand out. However, Tierney's mailing aleast forced Robbins and the FOP to step back and say OPPS - Someone caught our hand in the cookie jar. My vote goes to Jans, Koziel or Tierney.

Hey,High and dry in 016. Ive gone to calls where 016 units were falling over each other to respond to a call by a fellow officer. There are times when there are no cars available to respond to minor calls, even by the police.
Keep in mind that 016 is one of the largest districts in the city. On a busy day I could be on patrol at belmont and cicero, then be sent to edison park for a domestic,It happens.
A Large number of city workers live in 016.I think the vast majority would agree that they receive quality police service.

I responded to a 10-1 called in by an off-duty sheriffs deputy. The officer called in because a M1 was urinating in the park across the street. Certainly the police should respond to such a call. I dont think this is a 10-1. We had 7 cars down for 30 min.looking for the offender. I wonder if other od were calling for service at the time. Post 1 and 2. I share the zone with 008 ( I'm in 007) it is now one of the busiest districts in the city, years ago it was a retirement dist. 016 is still a very slow dist. the only way you couldn't think so is if you spent your career in the 019,020,023,016 rotation. We had a Lt. from there telling us the stats on agg. batts and homicides.....016 is a suburb. Great place to live, but lets not pretend you are doing any hard core policing.

Get your shit straight already, Robbins was the only officer that asked for the endorsment of the FOP. The FOP gave others a chance to come forward and ask for an endorsement. They did not give Steve the endorsement until 3 months after he asked for it. Kevin Janz was the ONLY other officer to ask for the endorsement. Tierney only came forward after Robbins and Janz, and THEN asked the FOP not to give Robbins the $5000.00. A day late and a dollar short! Get your facts straight about 017 and 017 Tact. It was 2300 hrs on New Years eve and the teams (along with SOS and HBT) attempted to take one of the buildings at 42nd/Federal when they came under fire from automatic weapons shooting down the stairwells. After several tries to take the building it was determined that it was too dangerous to enter and a perimeter was set up around the building. That was Maurer's call and probably the right call.

Just like everywhere else, there are dogs who don't want to be bothered. I've worked in three different districts and three Units in the last 16 years and in everyone of them, there seemed to be cowboys, dogs, and guys who just do their job and don't worry about what everyone else is doing. SO they should stop every black guy that drives through the district now? Yeah, that's great advice. WAKE THE FUCK UP! I drive past Catherine Courts often, and I've never seen any flagrant gang/narcotic activity out in the open. ( I know Iknow, I'm obviously not the real police and wouldn't know what a gangbanger looks like, right? ) OH My GOD! You mean black people go to the White Hen there?!?!?!? How horrible! I try to stay informed by going to the FOP website, and this website (thanks S.C.C.). Even if I did go to a meeting the board would just use Robert's Rules of Order to silence me.

Pick up the phone? I've got a better idea. Why dosen't the FOP board come out to the roll calls? Didn't they promise monthly visits when they ran against Nolan's cronies? Are they afraid to face the vast sea of blue shirts without their precious Robert's Rules?

for both of you arguing about burglary charges, for a burglary to auto charge it only requires that the arresting p.o. call felony review for approval charges. the WC then signs it. so as long as you can articulate the charge to felony review you will get the charges. this is one of the easiet felony charges to get approved besides the one-bagger

The funniest thing i have seen to this point regarding the pending

pension elections, especially in regards to TIERNEY, is that he is fond of mentioning close relationships that exist between FOP and ROBBINS, but isn't the outgoing HAUSER related to TIERNEY's wife?

Just a thought, but maybe concentrate on issues and getting what you are going to "TRY" to do when in office instead of whining about family, money or meetings.

They should make you a merit detective. If you go to Tierney's website that is linked on the SCC link area you will find this quote;

"I have spoken to Kenny Hauser on many occasions! HE IS MY WIFE'S COUSIN! Kenny has accepted an F.O.P. endorsement, and has gone out of his way to work with ALL the various F.O.P. administrations even though he has isssues with them. Kenny want's whats best for the patrolman and retired P.O.'s. and has voted as such."

Just scroll down to the portion of his website that is printed in green and you'll see it.

Now I know that Tierney is full of crap. I talked to Hauser and he said we were getting a great guy with Robbins.

"You know you can pick your friends but you can't pick your relatives."

Funny I don't hear Hauser singing Tierney's praises. Could it be Kenny knows Robbins is the best candidate for his spot!?

I'm glad to see that the Pension Board election has stimulated some conversation.
I particularly enjoy the "tierney sucks", "Tierney's a stroke" and the Carnac Vote projection. I leave my name when I post something.

As for Officer Robbins, He might be the greatest guy ever I don't know, but I have not said anything derogatory about him, I have only spoken about his endorsement from F.O.P., the cash allowance of $5000.00 and his voting record as an F.O.P. board member. Show me the lies!

As for an endorsement, I don't recall F.O.P. announcing I should go ask for one. Jans did ask for one and didn't get it. The F.O.P. board is majority F.O.P. slate, you make the decision on how they vote.
As for Ken Hauser, I didn't request an endorsement from him and I don't see him endorsing Officer Robbins or any candidate. In speaking to him last year he told me of his pending retirement and the vacant patrolman spot on the board. He said it would be a good opportunity for me. I made the decision to run.

I will re-examine the kids issue.
below a quote from prev post.

What in God's name would make you take your kids around all that cigarette smoke and liquor.

I don't stay with kids for fraternal hour. Members make more noise than my kids.

F.O.P. family auxilary would be happy to watch a bunch of kids sitting in the board room in front of a Barney video with coloring books for a 1 hour meeting. Potty Trained kids only! If you bring the kids, you bring a snack and juice boxes/milk for them.
Ask Angie, the auxilary would love it and support it.

Voight, Hanna, Rich aguliar (FOP hockey team yes we have a fop funded hockey team etc etc FOP did not endorse Hauser the last time he ran or give him any funds, they had to this time but split the same amount they gave robbins in two. This constant ripping of other coppers or where they work is ruining this site. It's exactly what caused the other site to come down. If you got a problem with the way other coppers work, tell then to their faces, don't be a keyboard coward and say shit behind their faces. Some of ought to be ashamed! And no, I don't work in 016,019,008 or any other district that some of you THINK are slow. Don't forget. This site is on the Web which means anyone can view it. Some of the drivel you guys post is embarrasing. Show a little respect for yourself, your co-workers and the Department that employes you. The same one that enables you to have a nice house in 016, a nice car, take nice vacations once in awhile, put your kids through private school, etc. If it's so bad then quit. The Laborers Union MIGHT be able to help you find a job. I mean Jesus Christ, enough already!

STRAIGHT ANSWER!!! The mailing option was offered to all candidates according to the rules of the election. I requested permission to do the mailing, I was put in touch with the printer/mailer, composed the postcard and the printer/mailer had the pension board list and did it for the agreed upon price. I never even SAW THE LIST. This is the same way John Dineen did his mailer. Officer Robbins must have used the FOP mailing list of active officers. The lists are well guarded, I don't think any candidate is allowed to look at it.

I went to the Pension board website at:

NOWHERE in the election rules does it mention being allowed to send out mailings with their information.

Perhaps you were looking at the special, "Election Rules for Ken Hauser Relatives"? Oh yeah, I want YOUR family controlling my pension.

as far as the 8th district is concerned, if you read te majority of the posts, no one says they're all bad. Where the problem lies is in the 10 sectr. I'm sure there are workers there too. Unfortunately if you live in 008 and need help, even the responding cops will apoligize for the slackers. The Sgts need to step up. It's well known that most crime dosen't happen in the 10 sector so the dogs gravitate to it. I personally know there are workers, mostly good responses, etc. But there's times when for what ever reason the response is bad. You can say it's busy, and I'm sure it is. The fact that there are some slackers combined with the bullshit of putting cops in leclaire at the expense of 10 sector beat cars is what gets the coppers living in 08 pissed off. It also dosen't help when you get comments like " don't expect me to do shit, I'm only writing parkers and doing park checks" or " what do you expect, your in the quiet side of 8".

Shut the FUCK up about the 008 and start your own blog. This Jag Off Tierney, got access to all of our addresses from the pension board!

Everyone who received a postcard from that jerk should be screaming on the phone about giving him our address.

What the hell is the Pension Board giving out my address out for! I pay not to have it published.

I feel a class action on the way.

Save your postcards boys and girls you may need it later.

I will again state the obvious. Rider Dickerson(a UNION SHOP) did the mailing for the pension board election, I went to them and had my (John Tierney) mailer done. I sat at a computer, typed what I wanted on the postcard and that was it. They took care of the rest. Printing/Mailing. Didn't see any name or addresses.

I learned alot with good bosses and 10.5 years on the job in 013 and hopefully now that I bid to 016 I can work for some of the working people and the police who live there. What NO CRIME? I don't have to chase 1 rock anymore or fill the sheets, I can work on the burglaries, robberies, hot cars, guns and dope dealers in YOUR neighborhood. 3rd day in 016 I was fighting a guy on the STREET with an AGG Asslt Gun Warrant, A TRR, no IOD, Bruised knuckles and knee, it's a pinch. I COMMEND MY FELLOW OFFICERS AND 017 FOR QUICK AND IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. EVEN AN OFF DUTY FEMALE STOPPED AND JUMPED IN. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE HELP!
Tonight, a DUI I assisted on w/partner said he had multiple guns in the house and would use them, A Consent To search later, a discussion with his wife and we find no guns but wife tells us they are in Des Plaines at the Son In laws house. Pass it on to other jursidiction. Work everywhere!
There are good and bad policemen in every part of our country, lets try to focus on the positive!

Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't the City and the FOP sign a "Letter of Understanding" in our old contract that stated that the City would support the FOP in reducing the number of years to reach the top pension percentage?

What happened with that agreement? Nothing. I guess the City signs these letters and the FOP doesn't hold them to their promises. The FOP has to give away 23 million bucks to get the City to do what they promised us previously.

Also NOTHING is forvever. Retiree healthcare, it's gone in 8 years, what are we going to do to get it back.

The State has started raiding its pensions for general spending. How long until the City does the same? How long until the City comes back and says we can't afford this we are putting you back to 35 yrs for max pension? Then what? Sue? Who controls the courts?

I hope you are right. I hope that we don't lose what we have now, but I have a sinking feeling that 23 million just went down the rat hole.

fop so active for retiree health care.. a little history where was FOP when the city stated they were not going to continue retiree health care. A group of retired po/firemen city workers formed CARPAC and with their own money NO FOP DONATIONS FOR THIS GROUP sued the city and a settlement was borne to continue retireee health care to 2013 AND the fire dept had fre health care at 60 yrs old way before FOP even cared too busy filing their own pockets and making sure that when the membership finnaly woke up and threw them out of the pot of gold they found good jobs like NOLAN with the sherriffs office. Where has the good Sgt gone with his amazing cut and paste ability?

Sgt Union petitions were circulated for their upcoming election. Is the F.O.P. endorsed Sgt Shemash running for PBPA? Is this the beggining of an organized attempt by the F.O.P. to covertly take over the Sgts union and jump into bed with the city?

The language has been changed in the FOP by laws that will allow the sgts to form a seperate barganing unit under the FOP.
Sooner or later they will come into the FOP.

the sgts will never be in FOP LODGE 7 and if Nolan would have not insisted that the sgts come under his control the PBPA would not be here today. Nolan actions is another example of the "me first" mentality of the leadership of FOP LODGE 7. The State and National Lodges would change any by law to allow another 1200 plus members. Fortunately the ensuing power struggle between the two groups for power in the state and national lodges will be a site to see.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to be the police, but you do need to WORK SMART AND DO YOUR JOB. Especially these days.

Get away from the District bashing. We should all know by now there are exceptional, good and not so good P.O.'s in every district. Deal with it.

I saw him on TV at 35/shields partying w/ da boys!
The IOU rep guy's may have lost the FOP election, but they were and still are the most educated /informed and down to earth group out there. Everyone had a college degree, they even had masters and a couple of doc's with them.
Maybe if we got educated non/partisan representation then we could do something with our negotiations instead of turning EVERYTHING over to an arbitrator!

VOTE TIERNEY! no bullshit!

I would call the above two posts retards, but that would be an insult to retards. You are so ill-informed that you never figured out that Robbins was a Sergeant-at-Arms, not trustee. You must be Tierney, because he didn't know where to find the pension board to go to a meeting, even though his wife's cousin was on the board.

Educated. You're kidding, right? Show me one person on this job with education who was worth a shit. College education just shows you didn't work a day in your life before you got this job, and don't know how real people live.

The best coppers were always those who did real work or were in the military and came to this job with the right perspective. Slick college shits like Tierney and his friends only know how to do backhanded sleazy shit (like lie about other coppers).

Is that the kind of representation we need? HELL NO!!!
