Quick! ASK FOR THE WAGON!

Seems the squadrol is about to become the place to be. Rumor has it that an order was cut this afternoon ordering District Commanders to take an inventory of body bags on hand because the "Body Snatchers" removal service is about to go belly up. Wagons will once again become the primary body transport vehicles citywide. The good news is that if you move ONE single body, you are entitled to out or grade D-3 pay for the day.

A small request of the wagon crews - if you go to a call and there are two bodies there, leave one for the next crew? You got yours, let the other guys get a bit of the action? We know of a few wagon crews that were moving bodies as if they were getting paid by the unit and screwing the other watches. Share the wealth - it's like $40 extra for the day.

Is that cute, grey haired guy still on 2372, 3rd watch? Goofy, but a babe, none the less.

One question, since the districts are so short, why leave the second body for the next crew if it's ready to go?

I understand the money end of it, but do you really think any superviosr with half a brain and some balls is going to let that happen?

Also, what if it's on the street? We can't leave a body laying in the street for hours. Shitheads aside, it's inhumane. Who wants to be the one to tell some greiving family member, "Sorry, we can only take one person at a time. Gotta let the next crew get their double sawbuck."

do u think any watch commander will allow the other wagon crew to remove a body while the current wagon guys that are getting paid out of grade are still on duty......not! They will probabbly have a wagon assigned to an area and have that wagon do the removals for the whole police area. thats how they will save $$$$.

Riddle me this, Why would you create new rapids when you can't even fill the spots of the regular rapids on a daily basis? There was a notice in the C.O. book that these new rapids MUST be manned on all three watches, while normal 40 and 50 sector rapids are downed.
This has to take the cake for most ass backwards smoke and mirrors management decision to be made in years. These bosses are so out of touch with patrol and district level policing its pathetic.

This should be a job for the Medical Examiner's Office. They should be well trained, well paid and well equipped. They should have proper protective gear, masks, gloves, tools and trucks.

This would be a good internship for pathology and mortuary science students.

Never happen...that makes too much sense.

What kind of training did you get to determine what a person died from? I've been on removal runs where it was pretty clear that the deceased died from something that I did not want to bring home to my family. Police work does get dirty, I'll agree with you on that. You don't intentionally step in pools of piss do you? This is a job that we are not properly trained or equipt. to safely perform.

No one said anything about intentionally stepping in pools of piss and and If you do not want to bring something home to your family get a new job because the LIVE people we deal with have many maladies. As for not being trained or equipped please give me a break. I have many times improvised in the past with what is available, IE a Shower Curtain, Comforter, etc and have been able to take care of my job. Quit you Bitching Police Boy and Do your job.

"more than 2 days on", obviously doesn't have much more than that as experience, if he or she is the police at all.

He or she had never had to handle a human body more than a few days dead. Never had to get the fire department with their air masks and boots to scrape the remains off the floor that was dripping through the ceiling below. God bless them for helping out; we always sent that house a couple of pizzas to say thanks.

He or she never brought that never forget it odor home with them and have their kids ask, "What smells so bad Daddy?"

Has anyone recently seen one of those red Personal Protective Equipment bags? They were not much good to begin with.

Why isn't that job handled like it is in every other city in this country; by properly equipped and trained personnel from the County Coroner or Medical Examiner.

Gunfire victim sues ex-Harris suspect

A week ago, he was publicly known only as R.G. -- the boy wrongfully arrested at age 7 for the murder of 13-year-old Ryan Harris.

Now, a lawsuit filed Friday threatens to take all of that away.

RoMarr Gipson, now 15, is being sued by one of the men he's accused of shooting in a south suburban Calumet Park gas station.

Clifton Smith's mother wants unspecified damages from Gipson, his mother, his estate and his stepbrother Roman Foreman, who also is charged in the shooting.

Earlier this week, the family took $50,000 out of the estate to get RoMarr out of jail.

Still, more than $300,000 remains in his estate in investments, with another $750,000 set aside for monthly payments to RoMarr for the rest of his life.

Then, last week, a bankruptcy trustee told the Chicago Sun-Times that when he presided over Gipson's bankruptcy last year, she never mentioned the $2 million settlement -- even though she personally received $25,000.

He said she swore under oath she was not part of any lawsuits, a move he said was likely bankruptcy fraud and something he was referring to the U.S. attorney for criminal charges. He said he also plans to ask a federal judge to re-open her bankruptcy case.

While such desperate and despicable cowards are invariably motivated by envy and hate, your appropriate actions will constrict such pathetic losers to "posting" their obscene graffiti on shithouse stalls.

The mere intensity and relentlessness of his ad hominem attacks against Northside implicates the instigator as a ranking, pathologically vindictive member of the CPD--a treacherous backstabber with "clout", a twisted mind and probably a severe problem with alcoholism and low self esteem.

I just got done taking the sgt. test a wright. I went on a bathroom break and there were two guys on the phone asking for answers to the test questions. Then walks in a Sgt. and sees this and does nothing! What a great test! Why bother when there is only going to be a few hundred spots open! What a joke!!!!!!

6/24/2006 02:37:00 PM

i thought the test did not come close to accurately measuring what a sergeant does. It should have put a lot more weight on knowledge of the orders and law, not on what do you do if someone is being rude on the phone. You could have studied your butt off, been able to know and recite every order by heart and still failed miserablly. Just a poorly put together test. My opinion.

I agree this test was a joke as far as measuring a sergeant duties. No weapon discharge, haz mat, school violence, etc. Only a missing mental elder? Very poor.

Also, does anyone feel the second part was a joke also since they do not tell you what to do in any of those situations from a approved Department standpoint.

Let the lottery begin.

I'll agree, test was a joke (as usual) no way in hell you'd be able to get everything right even if you were a house mouse studying for a year. The only way of coming close is.....here ya go study these General Orders wink wink, I really think you need to look over these orders wink wink. Berstein was a good class, but from the questions asked today he did'nt scratch the surface as well I thought he would. Lets be honest, the only way this testing process is gonna be legit is to eliminate this 30% merit crap (although there are alot of people who really do deserve it!) cause the last time I checked the definition of merit doesnt read "see clout". Lawsuit is in order and an overhaul of who's making the tests cause lets be honest, there are some really dumb fuckers out there that score extremely well and its kinda obvious that SOMEONE is telling people what to study. I know it sounds like jealousy to some but lets be fair and whats rht is right. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

I studied my ass off and knew everything about weapon discharges, haz mats, hbt, violent school incidents, caps and summary punishments, crs etc. Also the said no baseball caps on during test to prevent cheating but a M/1 in my class wore sunglasses during the whole test and the proctor said nothing.

I never become what they want Sgt's to become.....Get C.R.'S on everything. This department is becoming an embarassment, and I've only been here for 15 years. How about the question where the police officer chases a burglary offender, catches him, recovers the money, and citizen reports the P.O. struck the offender in the face... the offender didn't make the claim, a citizen did...P. O. claims offender tried to disarm her and he fell hitting his head on the sidewalk (I believe the police officer...oops, not the correct Sgt. answer).....OK, I know....believe the "wonderful" citizen and get a C.R. # on the copper....great job huh? (it used to be well known that if you ran from the police...and they caught you....you had a beating coming...it was just expected (and deserved), especially if they made me run...I hate to run!!., anyway, I hope the test scoring doesn't hurt the people that really want to be good supervisors...we need some good ones...stay safe everyone

On 15 Dec 03, Arbitrator Briggs issued an arbitration award on Dead Body Removal. These are the main points of the arbitration. Effective 1 Jan 04, Police Officers who transport a deceased person in any manner to or from any location shall be provided with out of grade pay at the D3 rate for their tour of duty. The Lodge made a demand for retroactive pay effective to 26 Mar 02. The arbitrator rejected this demand. Dead Body removal is handled almost exclusively by officers assigned to work the wagon. However, there have been numerous situations where the removal takes more than 2 officers. If you are working a wagon and receive a removal assignment that requires more than 2 officers, call for a supervisor. Have a supervisor authorize an assist unit and document the assisting officers in the Hospitalization Case Report. This way there will be no confusion as to which officers get the out of grade pay.

The arbitrator also directed the Department to provide officers who transport deceased persons with equipment appropriate for the protection of their health. While this is not a definitive direction, Management and Labor Affairs provided the Lodge with samples of equipment used in this field. Numerous officers have inspected the equipment, and found it far superior to the current equipment available.

Office, it doesn't matter what we all know would and should happen to offenders that run, when taking these tests you have to answer the way the city wants and expects, you have her do a trr, charge him with attempt disarm and resisting on top of the burglary charge and if it is pushed, just get the cr, it's no big deal when it's handled correctly ahead of time, she would be exonerated......
