Well sure - when your enemy (or political rival or convenient fall guy) is busy cutting his own throat, you don't get in the way. You merely observe where to stand so as to avoid most of the splatters. And Devine's quotes from the article are highly amusing, too:

6% of the ASA's - which is quite a bit less than the 17% demanded by Urkel - are all going to be First Chair veteran prosecutors? Hasn't Devine ever heard of seniority/reverse seniority? Shouldn't he be laying off the recent hires and political hacks of an overburdened bureaucracy? One would think that Devine is running interference for someone by keeping the spotlight focused on County mismanagement rather than another person whose administration is currently under a Federal microscope.

There is no senority rights in the ASA's office. They don't have a union and therefore no bargaining rights or senority rights. An ASA told me in court the other day is that ASA's will be fired based on their "performance ratings". Meaning people with clout will stay, those without will be fired.

The FOP is supporting King Richard's lap-dog (Zalewski) over Chuck Maida because it's a *wink-wink* backroom deal with Da Mayor. We are currently negotiating our next union contract with the city, so the FOP thinks we will get a better contract by playing "nice nice" with King Richie and supporting his hand picked candidates who always vote the way he wants them to.
Chuck Maida is running as an INDEPENDENT candidate, not as a Democrat. Therefor, Maida won't be compelled to vote the way the mayor wants him to on the issues that come up for vote by the city council.
The FOP won't back Chuck because they've sold their souls to Da Mayor, just like Bill Nolan's team did before them, as well as John Dineen and his guys when they ran the FOP throughout the 90's.
Remember this when Donohue and his merry band of backstabbers ask for you to re-elect THEM next time around!
How about getting rid of the felony review? What do we need them for? How many other counties use it? None?
Perhaps this would be a good time to get rid of felony review. The great majority of the Police Depts in the Country do not have to jump through hoops like we do. It would same money anyway because the ones who come out cannot make a decision anyway without calling a supervisor or Darren O'Brien.
Only a matter of time before the "TODDLER" finds himself dealing with the Feds...

Most of the ASAs I have ever dealt with have wanted to do the right thing. But just like the CPD, the State's Attorney's office is run buy political people who run the show.
The hoops we have to jump through for Felony Review are the ideas of Darrin O'Brien and not the regulary attorneys who work there.
To the ignorant officers who denigrate the ASAs, your problem is that you don't know many of them. Probably because you have little contact. Like making felony arrests!
Despite what you might think, they are usually on our side.
The enemy is not the average working ASA, the enemies are the political Darrin O'brien and of course, Dick Devine, who appointed him. And let us not forget Bob Milan!

At the State's Attorney's Office the Investigators are FOP so for them it is Last hired, fisrt fired.
The ASAs have no protection at all and are being let go at the will of their bosses.

We dont have as many three flats, condos, apartments, or multi family units lining the main streets. there are none on the side streets. I dont see taggers art work on garages or the like. Since you have to buy a home and the land it sits on, in most cases, we will never experience the quick demise as is being seen in Garfield Ridge. Its the multi familyb units and rentals that allow the enemy to get a foot hold in a neighborhood. Just look at the apartments on 115th and pulaski. it's a 26th and Cal retirement community.

Speaking of Asa's-I want to give credit to the copper who let ASA McDonald have it in the sign-in room at 26th and California last week. She came in bitching about some coppers not appearing in court and how she was going to have them arrested at which time the copper, who was just signing out from another court room and not related to her court matter, ripped into her saying that she would have coppers locked up!!! I hear she is a goof anyway! Good job man , way to back your fellow brothers...
