Someone attempts to make an effort to solve an ongoing problem...
- Under fire to stop the trade show exodus from Chicago, McCormick Place unions on Friday proposed a customer “bill of rights” for exhibitors and sweeping audits to ensure that savings are passed along to exhibitors.
- Mayor Richard Daley today dismissed a proposed customer "bill of rights" for McCormick Place conventioneers, saying it wouldn't begin to address the high costs of doing business there.
"They can have a bill off rights all they want. It's costs," Daley said.
Union leaders proposed the bill of rights this week as a way to inform exhibitors what rules workers must follow, and how much goods and services cost at McCormick Place. But Daley said that won't help keep shows in Chicago.
You can say a lot of things about Shortshanks, but being close-minded and unwilling to accept criticism and input from parties who actually have a dog in the fight isn't one of them.

We not only need term limits, we need benefit limits. Remember, those serving government service weren't supposed to have some huge golden parachute slowing their descent for their remaining years. The idea was you went to washington, did your term or two, then went back to your job. You served the people, then went back to serving yourself. When the fuck did the Congress turn into a clearing house for setup-for-life pensions, and other gibs me dats? Our local government is the same way. People retire from one place, draw a pension, then do something else and eventually will draw a pension from that too. Don't they call that, double-dipping? No wait, I know..my grandparents, both retirees of the City have two options: get their social security money that they paid into for 40+ years, or get their Chicago pension and deduct that amount from their collection every month. Money they already contributed! They worked for crap to halfway decent pay back in the day to earn this pension...nowadays people get appointed to a 6-figure job without ever really working a day, then enjoy a nice fat pension that they probably didn't really pay into. Unbelievable. And we wonder why this sort of economics fails? Why are there only a handful of rational people that see this?
Daley's "Pyrmaid" scheme is finally collapsing! Since 1989 he has been skimming and scamming the "fine citizens" of Chicago by moving money to his business cronies and filling the pockets of his "faithful" politicians! As in most pyrmaid schemes, more money is going out then coming in! Daley is now "coming clean" by making these financial woes look like they were caused by the "bad economy," not fiscal mismanagement! Will someone please call Waste Management and "haul" all these phony, backstabbing, lying, thieving, poor excuse for human beings off to a grand jury and indict them all? We are all like puppets unable to move without someone pulling our strings! Enough already!
