Firefighters Injured

  • At least four firefighters were trapped and injured after a wall collapsed in a 3-11 alarm fire at an abandoned South Side commercial building this morning, authorities said.

Firefighters searched through rubble for more than an hour as the trapped firefighters were pulled out and rushed to hospitals.

Police squad cars escorted two ambulances north on Lake Shore Drive to Northwestern as ramps were closed to clear it of traffic, according to fire communications. One of the firefighters there was described as "grave." The condition of the other one was not available.

At least two other firefighters to taken to other hospitals but their conditions also were not known.
Updates as we have them. Prayers for our fire department brothers and sisters.

UPDATE: Two firefighters dead. Condolences to our brothers and sisters of the Chicago Fire Department.

SCC media not notified yet but 2 are DOA.
Please hold until the media has it.

These fucking media vultures are harassing the firefighters on the fire scene as they go to the warming bus, while rotating from the search of the collapsed building.

May the media vultures Rot in hell.

Prayers and hope for all of the Firefighters. The police department has been through enough this year on it's own. We do not need to lose any more brave men and women in this city. Ladies and gentlemen, hug your loved ones a little tighter and a little longer before heading off to work and into the unknown. We know not what fate awaits us when we walk out that door. On a sadly ironic note, today is the 100 year anniversary of the Chicago stockyard fire which claimed the lives of twenty-one firemen when a wall collapsed.

Sorry for your loss guys and gals of the CFD. I know that we bust on each other alot, but we do come together when called upon. Again, another tragedy for Chicago's 1st responders and for what??? An abandoned building? It's easy to say stay strong for each other, but try. As I sit here and read for the 1st time about the tragic loss for the city, I was actually listening to "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen. It was written for the FDNY right after 9/11 and seems to have very much the same meaning today. Stay strong brothers and sisters. The fallen are in God's hands now and watching over their families, loved ones and the CFD. Godspeed.

2 Firemen dead and the likely cause? Fucking piece of shit SQUATTERS----HOMELESS who probably had lit small fires to keep warm. Good and USEFUL people died today and left families behind. And WHY? Because they were doing their job and trying to save USELESS leeches of society who have never nor will ever be contributors. I know they have a job to do, as we police do, but a better outcome would have been to have the firemen alive and the USELESS BASTARDS who started the fire left to fend for themselves. RIP and condolences to the families and CFD in general.

Oh No!

One of our departed Fire Fighter brethren was also a member of the Brotherhood of the Silitoe Tartan!

He felt The Police weren't getting their due respect and exercised his option to still serve and be yet treated somewhat like a normal human being instead of the brute and monster we're popularly portrayed as in the local msm.

God in Heaven, what a damning indictment of the current state of affairs!

I'm saddened that we lost some more good people today.

I blame the cities lack of leadership, the playing of politics, and lack of accountability for as the political leaders are the ones that create the environment in which we live.

Our actions or inaction are all connected. We do not live in a vacuum. More cops on the beat may have prevented this tragedy.

Instead the money is spent on enriching the politicians.

The people of Chicago are getting what they tolerate and we lost some good people today. But hey the mayors going to Casablanca on another foreign jaunt isn't that nice?

Have you done the right things Mr Mayor? Have you done everything possible to make us a better place to live?

How about all you aldermen out there eh? You too! The blood is on your hands.

Or all you all too busy lining your pockets and those of your friends with sweet deals?

The Fireman's Prayer
When duty call's me, oh Lord,
Wherever Flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever Be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert,
and oh Lord, guide my every move,
for life is so precious,
please don't let us loose.
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property
And if according to thy will,
That I must give my life,
Then with thy protecting hand my Lord,
I pray thee, protect my children and my wife.

Amen

When I'm called to duty God
wherever flames may rage

whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late

Enable me to be alert
to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and

to guard my neighbor and
protect his property

And if according to your will
I have to lose my life
bless with your protecting hand

I heard CFD Commissioner Hoff speak on WBBM radio this afternoon. His words were honest and direct, compassionate and inspirational. I would follow that man through the gates of hell if only he were a police department boss.

So sorry for the loss of two of CFD's best.

Also sorry we don't have leaders on CPD like Hoff on the fire side. That man is a leader.

Two Chicago firefighters were killed and more than a dozen injured Wednesday after they became trapped in a building while battling a warehouse blaze.
and then this how sad this person should not be elected ..

Rahm Emanuel's campaign moved quickly to correct an e-mail that went out to supporters lamenting today's Chicago firefighter tragedy while also asking for campaign donations.

"As we celebrate this holiday season, we must remember how fortunate we are that we have brave men and women working out there every day to protect our homes, our communities and our families," the e-mail from Emanuel read. "We are eternally grateful for their courageous work, and we will never forget them."

Included after those words was an electronic button marked "Donate."

My hart and prayers goes out to every Fire Fighter and their families. The Police have always had strong ties to the Men and Women of the Fire Department. It takes a special breed to do the job we do. I will say a prayer tonight for all involved.

God Bless the fallen fire fighters!!!

R.I.P. Brothers!

We are all one big family!

This is a horrible tragedy especially at Christmastime. I can not believe, that this tragedy took place on the 100th Anniversary of the worst loss of firefighters in the USA, outside of 9/11, the Chicago Stockyard Fire. That is way too eerie to even fathom.

We all bust balls about who the "Real Men in Blue" are. It wouldn't be fun if we didn't but we are all unrecognized heroes.

I feel this loss and wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas.

My prayers will be with the fallen, their families and their co-workers during this very tragic time.

God Bless all first respnders!

St. Michael and St. Florian watch over and protect us.

May God bless the souls of the two fallen fire fighters and also bless their families.

What a tragic and sad year for CPD & CFD. We're jokingly rivals, but when it comes down to it, we all care about each other and we will be there for each other in times of distress. Hope we can help out in some way like CFD did during the wakes of the fallen police officers.

RIP Firefighters Ankum and Stringer.

When Brave Men Cry

Into the bowels of Hell, these brave ones go
To save the lives of those they do not know
Guided by training & Camaraderie while overcoming fear
They dare to go with only Guardian Angels near

Through the smoke and heat and gasses too
They fight their fears when looking for you
A life to save is their primary task
Think of them with kindness is all they ask

The Cross of Malta is their chosen crest
Love of another is the required test
First to respond when all spells gloom
They won't quit though it could be their own doom

These Fire Fighters have seen so much
Burned and broken bodies, death, destruction and such
They go back for more each and every day
Because it's the lives they save that makes them stay

All for one and one for all
You go - I go that is their call
And in their quest, when some do fall
The rest stand strong - still giving their all

The loss of a family member does take it's toll
Cuts to the quick, down deep in your soul
Heroes forever, when they die
And that is when "BRAVE MEN CRY"

Horrible news from the CPD & CFD
this year. But could not get over the difference in demeanor of Supt of CFD vs CPD. Just night and day. Hoff was clearly distressed, when weiss gets up there he's just a robot. Has to pretend he cares.

Met Hoff twice, under much better circumstances, and he really IS that guy you'd kill to work for. CFD actually picked the best guy for that top spot. (He's got family on CPD, too.)

The union local spokesman seemed to be a real gentleman, too. He was very gracious in acknowledging our losses this year in his comments.
My sincerest condolences, CFD.

It is really impressive to have a top fire boss who gets in there and gets his hands dirty with the troops at a fire scene affecting a rescue.

By way of comparison can you imagine jodypweis getting in on a search or an arrest and putting hands on with a pair of cuffs he grabbed off his belt?

Me neither. Fire department has the real deal leading them.

CPD has a cat whisperer, a pretender, a sheep in sheep's clothing. A eunuch among men.

On the bright side, jfled has 67 days left.

No, Mike Bailey was NOT Daley's "personal fukn security guard". He was briefly detailed, as a district car, to the Daley residence. Daley wouldn't have known who Bailey was if he'd bumped into him. That didn't stop Daley from trying to play the 'personal loss' card, though.

At least, when he claimed today to have a relationship with the deceased firefighter, Daley was being accurate.

Since cat whisperer weis was supposed to be doing two top jobs in the city, how about if we draft Hoff for the next Police Superintendent as well as Fire Commissioner?

I bet he could do a better job than weis from day 1.

What a comparison. Hoff is a boss that is respected and he has the fire department all going in one direction for one common purpose.

And jody weis is a miserable bad joke of a police superintendent. He has single handedly about destroyed this police department. All that is wrong with the CPD can be summarized by holding up a snapshot of the beady eyed freak.

How did we get that unlucky? I have been hoping for just one boss like Hoff in my career but sadly that appears not to be in the cards.

I knew I should have been a fireman!

To all the men and women of our brotherhood in the CFD, we feel and mourn your loss.
At times like these we realize just how vulnerable Chicago and our nations First Responders are.
Saint Florian will welcome them with open arms.
Standing side by side with their peers and St. Michael in like company, heaven will have a special glow as Chicago's "Finest and Bravest" again report for duty.

Don't dump on CFD because Daley is an asshole. They are our brothers, both in public service, risking their lives, and being under appreciated by both politicians and the public. It is not their fault that Daley is a hypocritical, two-faced piece of shit. WE bust each others balls all the time, but CFD has always had our backs, and supported us in dire times. From the paramedics who have worked on our wounded, to their incredible displays of support for our fallen. The crossed ladders at the cemetary entrances at the funerals of our officers has always been one of the most magnificent sights that I have seen. Daley is Daley!!! Don't you dare disrespect the memory of the fallen firefighters with your petty quabbles with shortshanks. Grow up and direct your anger where it belongs. I have been a cop for 24 years, and my heart and prayers out to our brothers of the CFD, along with my gratitude. Please know that is the sentiment of 98% of my fellow officers, and disregard the pathetic losers who must make this about Daley's response.
And to those of you that are doing that....go to hell!!!

Thanks to all of the CPD brothers/sisters for your support at the scene, the escorts, at the hospitals, etc.

And yes, the media are a bunch of scum. They were harassing us. This one scumbag tried to find out what companies Corey and Ed were from and their names. He prefaced his questions by saying "sorry for your loss, blah, blah" POS

We need to watch out for these vultures......

Thanks again CPD and the other agencies that assisted.
