Get Ready for Another Medal

J-Fled and Masters Masters Masters will have an entire row of ribbons at this rate:
  • Reports of violent and property crimes continued to decline in the first half of 2010, according to preliminary crime report released by the FBI Monday.

The FBI's semiannual uniform crime report shows that reports of violent crime dropped 6.2 percent from January to June and property crime reports were down 2.8 percent.

The dip in reported crimes follows a three-year trend of decreasing crime rates despite a sagging economy.

Of course, the FBI doesn't use Chicago's numbers in their figuring because Chicago fudges the definitions of "crime," but J-Fled insisting that there were 23 straight months of reductions must be the truth, right? Why else would he be going forward with a massive redeployment of manpower resources if there wasn't any crime to fight?

Is anyone in the media picking up on this at all? If crime is down, why move police? If the police are bitching about back-up and strength, maybe crime isn't "down" at all? If the city hasn't hired but two classes in over three years, hasn't promoted a single detective in that same time frame while retirements have not only continued, but continued at a higher rate than in years past, maybe all isn't as it seems.

Oh yeah, and the mayor is a liar nine ways to Sunday. Why would anyone believe a single number coming out of City Hall?

I ask myself this everyday why some shootings never reported. Why is crime down, when we all know it isn't. Why lie like this and loose more credibility with all of us that live here or work in this shithole.
Is it even worth bitching about anymore?
The media must be on a payroll somewhere.
maybe it will all come back on them who put us all in harms way.
Stay safe

You must have been on the job for at least five years to receive it. The five year rule is because officers with less still have/had hope that they could earn promotions etc.
After five they know they are fucked.

This ribbon will be the Chicago flag but replacing the stars with skulls. Like the T shirt out there.

Remember, these are REPORTED crimes. So if no one made a report then no crime occurred. I work in a busy district and I can tell you first hand that we hit a backlog 80% of the time during the summer months. I see jobs pending of burglary reports, theft reports, assault, battery reports, etc.... and of course they have to wait since the offender isn't on scene. Well they don't wait for long. So no report made, no crime occurred in the eyes of the Department of Justice and FBI who compile this data for cities nationwide.

If you want the media to cover this, write it up in a nice official looking handout and give it to them. It is too much to ask the hairspray set to actually do their job so you have to do it for them!
The Washington Times ripped the Chicago Media an new one last week for their coverage of Rahm and flat out accused them of being on Rahm's side, no exceptions. Did we see that covered here? No handout.

Truer words have not been spoken: WHY do we need to move police from "slow" districts if crime is down?

This only makes sense when you remember that they are not telling the public the truth.

Also, referring to the great arrest by the narcotics team that "on-viewed" the kidnapping, rescued the victim, and arrested four born-in-mexico-cartel-hired-hitmen, why has the media downplayed this report, and why did the boss at OCD say this does not mean that cartels have come to chicago to do kidnappings? anyone with any knowledge knows that this is downplayed because shortshanks does not want it known that chicago is on the path to becoming like the kidnapping capital of the u.s., phoenix, arizona.

According to Morris J. Clapstaddle esteemed tenured chair of the University of Chicago's College of Urban Studies, "I saw this reduction coming as soon as the Chicago Police Department implemented the outstanding, world renowned, Predictive Crime Analytic Unit." Professor Clapstaddle goes on to question the use of mere mortals in the law enforcement field when this unit has done so much with so little to reduce crime to such insignificant numbers. The professor went on to state, "Why, it's just unbelieveable that there is even a whisper of crime in the city seeing as how the P. A. U. has predicted and prevented so much...I mean even a U. of C. grad student can barely compete with these reduced numbers, and we here at the U. of C. are at the forefront of EVERYTHING!!!" As the professor was leaving this interview, he could be heard reciting the P. A. U.'s motto..." eeny meenie, chili beany. The spirits are about to speak." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Because:

A. In my 25 years, I'll bet that there have been no more than a very few who have "hundreds" of part 1 felony arrests and convictions. AND it would take 3.3 of such convictions per month for 25 years to equal one thousand. No way.

B: With today's felony review system, the people who run it and answer the calls, the plea bargains which downgrade part one's to part two's and less, and our sackless states attorneys, no fucking body will ever reach "hundreds" again.

And C: you ain't shittin about the current exempts.

Did we shoot ourselves in our own proverbial feet? For the past two to three years, people here and elsewhere have talked about "de-policing" and slowing down the activity. In hindsight, by lowering our activity level, we have actually helped lower the crime statistics, making you-know-who able to report decreases in crime. One way around this is to generate more reports. stop giving a 19P to stuff that can be documented. Example: "shots fired" call. Do a report for reckless discharge. Leave complainant and offenders unknown if they are unknown. Detectives can kill it or suspend but it might make the stats. Give people their B.S. battery, robbery, assault reports. Let's let the people know what we have to do all the time. More RD numbers, less event numbers.
Event numbers don't make the crime statistics, but it helps the bosses with their "allocation of resources." what we need are more UCR coded reports. That's where the numbers are.

Then you learn that many brass who will draw double pensions could count their felony pinches on less than 10 fingers. It's all legit, right?

Being a great street cop will get you nowhere in promotions. I wonder what other factors are at work for these gold braid morons getting promoted? Any ideas? What could it be? Brains? No way.

They just keep forcing these idiots like J-Fled and Henny Penny down our throats. Why didn't they make guys like Northen and Snethen brass?

Less than 1 year left and I'm out of Shitcago, Crook County, Illinois in a flash.

We're talking PART I FELONY ARRESTS. Aside from very active detectives following up on property crimes, what "specialized units" are you talking about? Misdemeanors, pissers, DOPW, parkers are all bullshit. Narcotics and just guns don't count either. PART I FELONIES ONLY.

PART I FELONIES: Murder, Sexual Assault/Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Burglary, Vehicle Theft, Grand Theft and Arson.

You are talking "fucking garabage(sic)", asshat.

150 times 8 years is 1000. - 10:21 pm

WRONG, math major, try 1200.

Your attitude suggests that you've been on the job for 8 years and think you are supercop. Jealous, trash talker? STFU!

What all those felony arrests mean is that the guys they worked for got promoted, not them. That they made Sgt. at all is a testament to their perseverance. They sure didn't get promoted on merit. You think a boss wants to lose a worker like that? Any idiot can be a Sgt, few can make that amount of good arrests.

if you work in any specialized unit you should at least have 150 felony arrest a year. so 150 x 8years is 1000. So really 1000 felony arrest in a career is fucking garabage. so if your not the working police stop writing bullshit on this blog.

12/23/2010 10:21:00 PM

.... the arrests you prob have or your useless unit has are NOT part 1 crimes, i guarantee that you wet behind the ears wannabe

Tell your families to be careful! Yesterday about 1850 a f/2 exiting the brown line was a victim of a brutal CSA, wheres the media coverage and community out pouring for support? m/1 followed her not a lot to go on at this point. be careful out there.

And they want to take police from these tax paying districts and put them in the getto?

This was a bad one. Victim got beat bad and assaulted brutally. Details make your head swim and hope for a quick DNA match. Still no warning except for "Lakeview area."

Well, it was Barry & Lakewood area. Be careful. This was at dinnertime in a densely populated area with commuters walking home just a few feet away. Details are nauseating.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Listen up there buddy. I don't know Sgt Northen, but I have heard a lot about him, and all of it good. I DO know Dave Snethen, and he did not make Sgt till he had about 25 yrs on the job. That was 25 years of locking people up, and more importantly, putting them in prison. And for the record, making arrests is not what it's about. It is about putting them away with good cases, testifying the right way and being respected by the ASA's (at least in the old days). I do not know you, or what you do out there, but if you aspire to be a good cop, look no further than the example set by Northen, Snethen and many others.

Be safe out there.

I worked 011 with John Northen when he was new on the job. He was constantly locking up bad guys for index crimes.

What impressed me most was in just 1 tour of duty, he recovered THREE separate unrelated stolen late model Cadillacs, all on view with occupants. We called it his hat trick. He was like an assembly line machine. I think he did it again as a detective at Maxwell St. He had some kind of system with hot VIN numbers nationwide. It worked. Lots of local and foreign steals recovered with arrests. We worked together under Capt. Phil Moss. I'll never forget when he and his partner bailed us out on a 10-1 with shots fired during the riots.

David "Pizza Man" Snethen is a legend.

Let's all enjoy retirement, guys. We paid our dues a long, long time ago. Merry Christmas to all.
