New Bulding, Old Building

The joys of connected contracting:
  • Last night there was a power outage which affected the 008th District. As it should, the emergency generator kicked on....but only for 5 minutes, then it shut down. For the next hour, the building had no power at all. Building maintenance showed up (after the power was restored) and declared the generator broken.

An almost new building built with a faulty generator.
Anyone want to bet it was a "like new" generator, maybe a floor model, repackaged to look like new in a taped up box they found on the loading dock? Charged the city full price though.

And what's the story in 014? Word is they've had to shut the water off in the building twice in the past few weeks, not for hours, but days at a time. The district is shipping prisoners to Area 4 or Area 5 because it's some sort of civil rights violation to keep the evil-doers where there isn't running water - but the district itself is still open and running for the cops to work where there isn't any running water?

Yeah, aother word is "demonstrator." The City of Chicago would be the LAST to get it at a discount -- they probably paid three times retail for it...

The water outage in 014 is for the building and the surrounding area. The City can't seem to fix the leak in the main running down California.

Brand New Fieldhouse on 59th st. in Garfield Ridge has exploding plumbing (wonderful smell), an 'Exercise Room' with no changing area, showers, lockers, or even coat hooks! They also forgot to put in a parking area or open it on weekends!

Would have been nice if they asked the folks in the neighborhood for ideas... But Zalewski and Daley postured as they cut the ribbon a few months back...

Millions for the connected, nothing for basic common sense.

Hopefully, you will still have people to help with these things after the new mayor is sworn in...and sworn at.

New diesel engine, probably about $50K retail, so at least $75K to the shitty.

OT
Was thinking about this after a commercial for the Chicago Code. I don't watch the show, because I know the reality. I don't tune in because I KNOW how the fine officers of the Chicago Police Department act and conduct themselves. I don't sit on the edge of my seat watching some stupid show, trying to glean nuggets of information and innuendo about the inner-workings of the Chicago Police Department. I don't bother tuning in, because I know I would be annoyed with all the bullshit. It would be a waste of my time.
I was thinking.....I bet Wies watches this show. In fact, I am almost POSITIVE Weis sets his DVR to record the stupid Chicago Code. Now.....I am sure he is a little embarrassed about the fact that he is recording a show focused on his profession......as I'm sure all of you officers who watch the show are. The difference between him and us...........well the many differences, but in this case........I truly believe that in his heart of hearts (if that's possible).....at his core (soul, not muscular).....he watches the Chicago Code to try to gain SOME kind of insight as to what it is like to be a police officer. I believe this. I believe that on some level he realizes at this point that he was a complete failure. I think that someone of his intelligence has to realize that the major contributing factor to his demise was the fact that he was never the police. I'm not suggesting that he watches this stupid show on the edge of his seat with paper and pen ready to take notes. I believe he probably tells people, "OF COURSE it's fiction! But as the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, how could I possibly NOT watch a show about US??!!"
What I am suggesting, and what I truly BELIEVE is that our current superintendent watches the Chicago Code to see what it is like to be a police officer.............because he will never know.
What a douche.

I've been noticing that the 11th district tact teams have been confined to the predictive analysis zone and aren't allowed to leave their 6 square block area unless there's an emergency. I've also heard that the GPS is being monitored and if they leave the "zone" for any reason they have to notify the Watch Commander, who has to inform the Commander, who in turn has to notify the Deputy Chief. It's simple. Declare an area of the city ripe for crime, anchor a tact team there and when they make an arrest declare a victory because you predicted the outcome.

Instructions for filing a safety complaint are in every PO's FOP book. Well hidden in plain view.

Each and every PO has it within their power to type one up themselves and submit a safety complaint.

Each and every PO SHOULD submit a safety complaint. On different days. Call OSHA also. Take pix.

001st District is being rebuilt inside due to shoddy construction. Barely 12 years old. Cement stairs crumbling, concrete block walls opening up 5 inch gaps between mortar joints.

And of course, like all the other police stations, the corporation that built it was disolved as soon as the final check cleared so there is no recourse. No one to sue for the shoddy construction. Also no outrage, not investigation, no indictment, no charges, no trial and no recourse due the taxpayers who paid for this crap construction.

But our pensions are the problem, remember.

And also remember this every 1st of the month after the new mayor is crowned: Richard M Daley has at least $25,000 in pension checks direct deposited into his bank account. Every month. Remember that on the 1st from now on.

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.

One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Minnesota.

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys !! How did you come up with such a high figure ??"

The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence."

"Done !!" replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the stimulus plan works.

Same chit happens in 004 when the power goes out. Generator only kicks on for a few minutes and then nothing. It's as black as the Lt. Johnsons (2nd watch) heart.

On another note, he is refusing to give radio cases to anyone wanting a short stem radio. This includes anyone wearing plain clothes. He has instruicted the desk and radio room personnel to abide by his rules. He has further stated that all those upset, should buy their own cases. Forgive me if I've been led to believe the wrong thing all these yaers, but if a radio case is a mandatory thing, doesn't the city have to buy them for us. This is a saftety issue.

It's fiction-- idealized for entertainment purposes. Wysocki with his bad accent is a "supercop" who could not exist in the CPD. I think it's fun to see CPD represented instead of NYPD and LAPD all the time on TV. I don't believe the show hurts CPD or it's officers. If it were a reality show--nobody would watch because that would be boring. It's drama, it's entertainment, and it's "ours." I understand why POs don't like cop shows. But as cop shows go, it's better than most (except Southland, currently) So until it's no longer entertaining, I'll watch along with J-Fled.

Unfortunately, this problem goes back to the end of time. I worked in the old shitty buildings that were roach and rat infested, no heat in the winter and no air conditioning except in the commaners/secretary office. When we moved into the first new building in a long time, Area 4 on Kedzie, the construction was alaughing matter. When it rained the hallways flooded. They put the lockup together backwards so the cell doors could not be locked and the water did not run. The concrete was awful, etc. The stories are too many to mention. It is sad to hear these new stations are so crappy and it takes so long to repair. And, when they do repair things, the repair is laughable, gerimandered and rigged instead of quality work. Don't forget, the trademan, if you can call them that, that fix theses things are city employees making much more then you do.

Came to work tonight in 014 (3rd watch), water finally back on. Thank god I made friends with food industry people in the area. Had to use their restrooms the past two nights.

This can be explained with three letters......PBC. They build the nice new shiny buildings, have a press event, cut the ribbon with the Mayor, Aldercreature and anyone else they wish to suckhole.

Then they had the keys to the City and say Good Luck, no warranty, no as-built plans to show where the fuck things are.

Generators; how many city electricians even know what that is? I never see them working on live wires, change a lamp if they can, install a phone or radio, maybe even a time clock. Those Jags should be on a maintenance scale.

Not the original poster, but the first thing I'd do is hire experienced writers.

The style is sophomoric and heavy-handed. Subtle touches are delivered with hammer blows, apparently because the writers believe the audience is too dim to catch the small stuff.

They seem to be confused about whether they want to give us a police show or a televised comic book.
