No Experience, But....
With a pledge to hold the line on CTA fares, Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday chose a proven reformer with no background in transportation to serve as CTA president: former Cook County Commissioner Forrest Claypool.
“I don’t believe it’s time — given how the middle-class feels that they’re nickel-and-dimed on taxes — to be raising rates at this time,” said Emanuel, who campaigned on a promise to extend the CTA’s Red Line on the South Side and rebuild it on the North Side.
“My first order of business is to see how operations are working to make sure we’re doing it in the most efficient and effective way. ...They have to go through the operations line by line … and find savings.”
If Claypool’s CTA tenure is anything like his stint at the Park District, CTA unions could be in for a rough ride.
He presided over an unprecedented expansion of recreational programming and capital spending while holding the line on property taxes and cutting 800 jobs from a payroll of 4,100. Park District harbors and Soldier Field were turned over to private managers, more than doubling non-tax revenues.

... We contend that a trained monkey could have done the same thing - it was simply time and Claypool was in the right place at the right time.

Maybe it's time to modernize the CTA and the trained monkey is AGAIN, at the right place at the right time?
Besides, someone has to clean up what Ron Huberman did!
I thought Democrats were supposed to be pro union...??
If Rahm likes to put people with no experience in charge of major organizations, then you can expect him to pick an insider ( current exempt) for the superintendents job.
We are next on the "chopping block," of rahms march to the white house run in 2016! What will he do to decimate cpd even more? As long as the pension stays personally i am all good, anything else I write the paper and advise warrants! Chase the animal for a bag,and risk getting hurt sorry not anymore! I treat the ghetto like it should be, look at the cages in the zoo where the wild animals are allowed to roam free in their confines, same with the ghetto, and the strongest animal can survive the others just save us future tax monies when the strong kill the small! No loss to society!
rough ride for cta employees
that's the idea
As Hoobermann was to the shanks, Forrest "Gump" Slaytool will be the Tiny Dancer 9.5's henchman and hitman. The "family" is changing, but the "business endeavors" will be the same.
When Claypool was with the Park District, I was in a position within the Department that took issues into account within certain parks, these being the lakefront north from downtown. On a number of occasions, I found it necessary to speak to him. All of his calls were screened and he NEVER called back. I know a number of other people within the Department who also complained of his lack of communication. Due to my dislike for him, I perked up whenever I heard his name.....the truth of the matter, in my opinion, is that he never accomplished a thing out here. He'll steer the CTA into a brick wall. He's no better than Huberman, who I consider nothing but an elitist snob. However, Huberman's smarter than Claypool, who is at best, a well-groomed political hack.
I worked for Claypool at the Park District. Id this guy showed up by 11;00 a.m. it was a good day. He doesn't like to work. When he was a County Commissioner he chosse not to serve on any committees. That meant he would actually have to go to work. All CTA employees....Watch this guy. See how many hours a day he works.
AND just what do you expect him to do the FOP contract when its time to renegotiate?
I expect a wholesale screwing of the Blue shirts. Dont expect any type of raises- or maybe a small raise that will cover 50% of the Cost of living.
I got a bad feeling about this.
Rahm will pick the person who can say YES when he pulls the hidden string!
"Besides, someone has to clean up what Ron Huberman did!"
That's exactly why he chose an insider. If he went for someone from another state or country they might broadcast about the lousy job Daleys appointees did. It's all about hiding the decades of mismanagement courtesy of Daley.
Better not pick this guy...he actually does police work!

Its time to belly up. Nothing different look at the names. Lets see who else gets the blessing. Pls connect the dots. FITZ Give BLOGO chance to say all. Its all MELLS fault.
I can remember back in the 70's and 80's when the CTA pulled off Wildcat strikes and shut down the entire system for days. Maybe our governments need a taste of that same thing again to get their heads straight. Rahm thinks he is going to steamroll everyone and do it his way. Put this slug in his place from the get go.
Claypool already recommended getting rid of Public Transportation and hiring a less expensive more working outfit like Guarda Security.
