Police Week Info
The folks helping set-up the Chicago portion of the Washington DC trip are getting tons of calls about the event, so we're re-posting the article that went up back on 28 March, including the airfare code:
- Police Week 2011 information: In our 15 years attending, we have never seen this many officers from Chicago going on the wall. I hope that we have a record turnout from our department.
Please help honor our FIVE brothers in blue as well as the other men and women being added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington DC.
Airfare: This is code is valid for 10% off the lowest published airfare for travel from 09 May to 19 May 2011 on American Airlines.
The Promotion Code you will need to enter is 5251DH. Book asap as gas prices rise, so will the fare.
We will be hosting a party again at Clyde's in Chinatown. All Departments are welcome to attend. The party will take place on May 14th, 2011 from 7-10pm. Tickets are $65 each and are available from Marikay O'Brien Unit 124 773-677-4397 (northside) or Sharon Colby Unit 640 773-544-2908 (southside).
Tickets must be purchased prior to May 6th.
We had over 75 people purchase at the door last year. This year we need to have a more accurate headcount for room space and food and beverages. We must insist no tickets will be sold at the door. If you did not receive a info packet, please let us know. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call either one of us or email CPDPOLICEWEEK@aol.com
Thanks and we hope to see you there!

Anyone write Cozzi a letter today?
offtopic from wbez.org "Griffin announced yesterday that after a protracted campaign (with the support of 40th Ward Alderman Patrick O'Connor), the city has agreed to sell it the abandoned police station at Foster and Damen for the august sum of one dollar. The theater will convert the Bowmanville building into a community arts center, beginning with construction of an 80-seat black box theater next year. The company's goal is to construct a 120-seat mainstage space by 2015.
Current renovation plans call for a few homages to the building's original use, such as putting the box office in an old holding cell and the administrative offices in what were once interrogation rooms.
The project marks a sort of return to its geographic roots for Griffin, which made its home in nearby Andersonville for more than a dozen years before being driven out in 2005 by rising rents. Since then Griffin, particularly well-known for its work focusing on teens and twenty-somethings, has worked in Lakeview, first at the Athenaeum, then at the old Theatre Building (now Stage 773) and currently at Theatre Wit (previously the Bailiwick Arts Center).
This latest round of musical buildings brings to five the number of theaters in Edgewater (which encompasses Andersonville, Bowmanville and the lakefront from Foster to Devon), including City Lit and Red Twist on Bryn Mawr near Sheridan, Raven on Clark at Granville and Steep at Berwyn and Broadway.
=================================
This is prime real estate that won't be on the tax rolls anytime soon.
Just what we need, another theatre showing plays written by nobody that nobody heard of, acted by actors that nobody has heard of and seen by nobody at all.
How about turning the building into the NS HQ for the ETs and the Crime Lab? Or give it to the diaper dicks? That makes too much sense, how much will it cost to relocate the police radio and switching equipment that is still in the building?
Someone is getting money for this and this building had too many proud people work in it for 70 years and other people that worked in another building on the same spot for 60 years before that to be used for BS like this.
Is there an FOP Bus going there?

CERIALE MEMORIAL DEDICATION
For those of you not going to DC, please consider attending the dedication of a memorial honoring Mike Ceriale at Horner Park on Saturday, May 14 at 11 am.
The flagpole memorial (located near the ball fields where Mike used to play) was the project of an Eagle Scout, Reid Cleveland, and had the full support of the Ceriale family and the Ceriale Foundation.
The donation made by the foundation to help the scout reach his goal was underwritten by Bill Murray -- yes that Bill Murray -- who is a big fan of the CPD. He wanted to attend but will be filming a movie on FDR at that time.
wildings migrate north ,,, police shooting at harlem/talcott 2day around 1300hrs
I don't think a theater in the old 020 station is disrepectful to the officers that used to work there.
Funny how nothing mentioned on Chicago Breaking News about any shooting at Harlem/Talcott... But..... The shitheads that shot worthless shitheads in da "wood" made the news... Imagine that. Thats fucked up essay.
PO shot in 007 aprox. 20:30 hrs. taken to Northwestern hospital. That's all I got.
just in CPD officer shot in 007
Sgt from TRU is getting TOP COP award in DC. It is being awarded to him for his brave actions in taking down that animal that killed THOR!!! Please keep this in mind when in DC. If not for that Sgt, more people would have been hurt.
Off Topic:
Will the Police Board shed any light on the entire list
of the 40 candidates for Supt. of CPD? Even more
important, who wrote the attached '4 letters of recommendation' for each of the candidates? I'm
willing to bet that a lot of the names attached to those
recommendation letters match up with the infamous
'clout list' from City Hall talked about in the news a while back.
I have contacted the Sergeant's Association for clarification of retirees wearing their Dress Blues for this event with our Retirement Stars. This was after I had gotten permission from Superintendent Weis prior to the end of his term. They contacted Commander O'Neill and his opinion was NO. I then asked for somebody further up the food chain to make the official call rather than an opinion. Since we are a paramilitary organization, and Military retirees are allowed to wear their Class A's to ceremonies such as this, I believe that there is a precedent to do so. Other large Departments retirees wear their uniforms to honor their fallen, why shouldn't we? maybe this posting will light a few fires under the right butts.... I don't care which organization gets the OK.

OT:
I can only speak volumes about what a good judge this man is and how we need more of his caliber. He was a floater judge for a while and I first ran into him on Belmont ave.

I just realized who this guy is. I sent two guys racing down to 26th for a probable cause document and he was the judge on call that night.
He met the guys IN THE PARKING LOT, welcomed them, thanked them for their good work, rushed them through the process to make a deadline and they raved about him for weeks after that.
Sounds like a really decent guy.

Who's going to stop you?
They contacted Commander O'Neill and his opinion was NO.
Who gives a fiddler's fuck what O'neil thinks about anything? he's a snake in the grass, who sold his soul for the gold star. Mr. Union has forgotten where he came from and now routinely violates the contract. Ask the Lts. for one. Hope he gets launched when the new Supe takes over.
I don't think a theater in the old 020 station is disrepectful to the officers that used to work there.

Maybe not, but selling the damned thing for a fucking dollar when we're in the damned hole is yet another example of the piss poor leadership that asshole Daley has shown for twenty years.
They couldn't sell it for ten grand as a giveaway price? One damned dollar? This is why we are in such a state. Thanks for nothing Daley, you asshole. One more shot to the city before you leave, huh? Rot in hell you piece of shit.
Regarding the below post, to all applicable attendees...

As a "Regular" in DC for close to 15 yrs., simply put... "YES!! " by all means you can wear your uniform ,if desired, upon retirement with your 'retired' star.
Annually,P.O.'s, Sgts., etc have worn the uniform without question or concern. You are there to (continue to) represent our department. You are in D.C. on your own time/dime to "Honor Our Fallen." We stand as one.
I could see your concern IF you were in Chicago where you could have your motive misinterpreted or questioned.
In DC, we are all one and there for the same reason.
You 'earned' that right brother (unlike a former supt.)so wear it proudly, as described, and THANK YOU for your support of Chicago's Finest" honoring our nations heroes. God Bless.
oneal is a company man
maybe new supt will dump him back to captain
captains no longer work second watch , we could use him on third watch in 11
To my brother...

Wear the uniform.
Never take "No" for an answer from someone who didn't have the final authority to give you a "Yes" to begin with.
Thanks for your sacrifice and wanting to do 'the right thing.'
Your attendance there certainly accomplishes that.
