- Police First Deputy Supt. Al Wysinger says getting beat officers to know the community, and bringing in drug and gang units, are among the vital ways the department hopes to cut crime in the struggling Englewood and Harrison districts.
But Wysinger says simply hiring more police officers is not the answer.
So....you'll move hundreds of officers into two districts that probably cost the city ten times in services that they'll ever produce in tax revenues, but you won't hire more officers to pick up the slack citywide?

The most obvious flaw that I see is that the good Deputy speaks out of both sides of his mouth.

OFF TOPIC....there is a great e-learning video entitled "hands only" CPR....it's a ten minute video showing you how just doing chest compressions could double the chance of saving someones life after collapsing (i.e heart attack..) and using a AED afterwards......

The last stat that I read was Englewood had 3500 boarded up home and not sure if this included the vacant lots but I would assume there another 3500 of those. So in a roughly 25 square block area there is up to 7000 lots that most likely pay no property tax into the system. There is no hope for this section of the city that has more police officers than 019 & 023 combined, and with the influx of another 150+ officer between 007 & 011 its approaching 019/020/023 combined which for those that don't know roughly includes North/South-Fullerton to Peterson - East/West - the Chicago River to Lake Michigan. If you live within this area demand more police officers from your alderman.

Seems to me it's not living up to the hype because if it were the rising trend line identified here should of altered everyone to this problem and a corrective response would of been formulated long ago.

If hiring additional officers is not necessary, why are they adding more officers to 007 and 011? If he has an effective strategy then work with the officers already assigned to the two districts. He contradicts himself. Every other district has to work with the available resources, so why would you re-assign more officers to the two districts? Without boots on the ground, officers to man the cars, nothing will work. Someone has to respond to the calls and 007 and 011 is draining the scarce manpower available to the city. Part of the new plan for the 7th and 11th district is for the beat officers in these goofy zones do foot patrol in the middle of winter. The theory is that in ny they made there recruits go out for the first 6 months on fixed foot patrol. We keep trying to apply things from new york that will not work here. Simply stated if you look at the numbers new york has almost 4x the amount of officers, so of course throwing coppers out on foot patrol might work, depending on how much upper management manipulate the number to make it seem like it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. We are not NEW YORK so stop shoving their shit policies down our throat. How about we have an original fucking thought.

I used to be an advid listener to the Roe Conn, and still listen to some shows: levin and Noory, donn and roma (Sometimes). I haven't listen to him now in years...It really turned me off when they hired that d bag roeper. I can't stand him.
Why don't we just send every P.O. in the department to 007 and 011. That ought to cut the crime rate, right? Maybe? Probably not....

Do you think any of your bosses are familiar with the Kansas City Patrol Experiment? Albeit that was 1972 & '73 but the basics are the same. Bringing in or reducing the numbers of police in districts will likely have little impact on crime.

I do not want police presence or protection taken from my neighborhood, nor my family's neighborhood, to protect Englewood. Detroit is razing over 10,000 vacant homes. Obama committed $20MM to the demolition project and a lot are already gone there. Englewood has over 3600 vacant properties. The lenders won't take them back because they're worthless, they just stop the foreclosure proceedings. A recent case was lost in federal court here attempting to fine the lenders for not maintaining them, or forcing them to contribute or resolve the problem they caused in the first place but because the government ultimately is on the hook, that case was thrown out with zero resolution. So now these board-ups just become a continual magnet for crime, and over 20,000 residents have already left the area. But the current ridculous answer to this problem is to take police protection away from the rest of us taxpaying, contributing citizens to move it there. And for whom? Those who remain and contribute virtually nothing but more crime statistics? Rahm should demand federal money to tear all the crap down. Detroit can get the financial commitment but Rahm or the President's hometown cannot? Just raze it all and you'll need far less police presence. Seems this city keeps ignoring the majority of us that pay the bills here. Not a cop but disgusted and afraid.

We have Commanders and DC’s and AC’s and XO’s that are chummy with the Gangs they are actually supposed to be putting in Jail. Morale is at an all time LOW thanks to 21 years under Daley and a Police Management system of letting the Reverends and Aldermen decide whom should be a Cop. Don't forget that possession of cannabis while in a car means: $$$$$$$$ for the city. It takes $2000 to get a car out of the impound just for having weed! Of course the bosses love a cannabis arrest over a robbery, rape, murder arrest.
Wysinger is a whore, no different than those before him and, most likely, those that follow him. Yes, they were and they still are. They are not assigned here nor will they be, they are just here for a temporary bullshit showing hoping that the shootings will slow down. More smoke and mirrors. Rahm and Garry hold a press conference and lie saying 150 officers are going to be assigned to these districts. ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE OF CHICAGO(007 AND 011 DIST) UNDERSTAND YOUR DISTRICTS ARE NOT GETTING 150 MORE OFFICERS ADDED. Nice job by responding officers, but I think what the writer is implying is that they could have been killed before officers caught the bad guys. Would have sucked for the family of those who might have been killed before the officer arrived to catch the killers. Don'tchathink?

3 west side citizens come over to the far NW side and tired to burglarize a house at 730PM. Bu the family was home. The mutts continued to pound on the door knowing the family was inside and broke down the door. They fled when they heard the police were coming. The family was soo close to a violent beating. It took a beat car 7 minutes to respond but the car was 7 miles away. No one to respond to in progress calls in 016. Now the neighborhood ia a armed camp and very much on guard. To hell with the law, defend your home.
