Without mentioning Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) by name, Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Monday offered thinly veiled criticism of the South Side alderman for the legislative scholarship awarded to Beale’s daughter.
A joint investigation by the Chicago Sun-Times and the Better Government Association disclosed this week that State Rep. Robert Rita (D-Blue Island) — a friend and political ally of Beale who employs the alderman’s wife — gave Beale’s daughter a four-year, tuition-free ride to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
It’s the latest in a string of examples of coveted legislative scholarships benefitting the children of political insiders.
A typically crooked move by typically crooked politicians that voters still can't muster enough outrage to stop. A four year ride to the U of I runs how much? This is nothing but a bribe, plain and simple.
Tuesday, the Beale family is again the subject of a Sun Times spotlight:
- The wife of Ald. Anthony Beale is the subject of an ethics probe for undisclosed “job performance” issues, Secretary of State Jesse White’s office confirmed Tuesday.
Dana Beale was hired by the secretary of state in 2000 and worked as an enforcement auditor in White’s securities division until last May, when she resigned from her $79,620-a-year post.
For the Machine to turn on its own, someone must have really stepped out of line.

My son just graduated UofI the total with room and board everything 4 years ready? $135,000 no wonder many of us coppers work 2-3 jobs and are never home!
I attended G8 training day number four last week. Still no shield replacements, still no shit/piss run down the helmet adaptors, still no shields, still no XL batons, still no new gas masks, still no expired gas mask filter replacement, still no new hires, still no news on the whats and the whens and the what ifs. If I'm not mistaken, G8 and Nato is just around the corner. Rahm and Garry need to get their heads out their butts and get with it.
What's amazing is the bold and arrogant attitudes, these crooked politicians have, they don't even care if they get caught. Seems their response is the middle finger to all of us. How many investigations has there been regarding this free tuition to politicians and it still continues. I blame the schools they know what's going on and allow it. Maybe its time for some politicians to go to jail.
Just another blatant example of politicians picking and choosing the winners and the losers. Like who get's a tax break and who doesn't. Who has to follow the laws to the letter and beyond and who doesn't.

And, yes, they do not care if these acts of theft of tax dollars come to light. They count on the voters to soon forget and vote as they usually do,: by party, by race, by ethnic group or, just not vote at all !! I have called on our Illinois State Attorney General, Lisa Madigan, to call a special grand jury to investigate the tuition waiver program to include perjury made by the applicants. But, you do know that will never happen. She needs permission of her daddy.

"Madigan said he supports Republican leader Tom Cross’ bill to force current workers to pay more into their pensions or retire later — even though the state Supreme Court will likely have to rule whether that violates the state constitution. Pensions are routinely adjusted in the private sector, Madigan said."

The collusion between him and the Oak Brook based security patrol company that he is part owner of. What's the matter Beale, can't find a CHICAGO based security company that will let you muscle in and squeeze kickbacks out of them?
You still fleecing both the city and a handful of Roseland store owners and that mall on 119 Marshfield-in the 34th Ward-for "security" fees ?
And last but not least, what about that drug house you let operate with impunity right across the street from your aldermanic office. You remember, the same drug dealers that shot a couple of narcotics officers during a search warrant, then beat the attempt murder charges in court?

By the way Beale, you have almost entire blocks of houses in your ward that are, or have been foreclosed and vacated. His wife just left her ghost payroll job at the Sec. Of State office so their combined income would not affect the free political scholarship. So now she is a stay at home mom collecting a "token" $400 a month. I call BS, free money just like welfare, even Aldermen milk this system for every free penny. She will have a political job in a couple of months then lose it again when their teenage sons need their scholarships. Beale you can take my duty availability check if you can get my kids a college scholarship.

When I went to U of I in Champaign in the early 1980s tuition and fees amounted to $454 per semester and room and board at the fraternity house ran another $1,100 a semester. $135K for a four-year degree at a state school is ridiculous, even for a great university like U of I!
Just make sure we all take our "Ethics" training every year. No wonder why we all laugh when taking the training. IT MEANS NOTHING TO THE POLITICIANS!!! How can something like this be allowed to happen? If anything is unethical this would be the greatest example.

Why do you think the City offers tuition reimbursement? It's not for your benefit. It does nothing for you on the job. It's a cottage industry set up to buy favors within the extremely corrupt education syatem. Favors handed out through tuition and jobs. How about After School Matters. If you think our pension is messed up, look at the education pension. How any alderman can be reelected is beyond me. They spend more time debating faux gras than real issues like the skyway, parking meters, pensions etc. All the while taking very good care of themselves and their families.
The only way to effect change is to leave Illinois when you are able.
I will retire within 4 years, hopefully 2.
My kids both attend college out of state and plan on not returning to Illinois when they graduate.
Take your retirement funds, when you can, and your educated kids to more prosperous states.
Illinois will be left with the beals, madigans, daleys and all of their ilk trying to squeeze tax dollars out of rocks.
Illinois in general and Chicago specifically can not provide the educated workforce business' need. They in turn will continue to leave Illinois thus perpetuating Illinois' spiral into the shitter.

Fran Hurleys' kid Nate also got a 4 year Legislative scholarship to the U of I in 2010. She is 19th ward Alderman O'Sheas secretary (Endorsed by FOP and Mark Donahue) for 35th legislative district. Our leadership at FOP is an embarrasement. Atleast the Fire Department backs their own in this same race CFD Lt. Tony Martin.
