Rahm has $4 Million Left Over

  • Six months after the NATO summit, City Hall has hit the total button on the cost of hosting and protecting world leaders at a gathering that was historic for Chicago but a stretch for local resources.

The final bill for the city of Chicago was $27.5 million, according to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office, with more than $20 million of it covered by the federal government.

The remainder has been covered by some of the nearly $33 million in private donations raised by the Chicago NATO organizing committee.

The private donations also covered the committee's tab for hotels for NATO guests, receptions and dinners for dignitaries, a media facility and insurance for the event. More than $10 million of the private donations was left over for the mayor to spend.

Sarah Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the mayor, said $4 million of that surplus remains at his disposal after recent announcements on using leftover money for park improvements.
Thousands of coppers short, millions short in pension obligations, and Rahm is spending it all on parks without any oversight whatsoever.

That makes sense.

The REAL question is: What favors were given out for the "private" donations!

Do you really think that corporations are going to cough up $33 mil. and not expect something in return?

Ethics? Wut?

So if you hand out a tax break first. Then happen to get a donation in return. You don't have to account for how the donation money is spent because it doesn't play by the rules of taxes. Is that how it works?

Private donation you can do what you want with and don't need anyone's approval or oversight right?

Can't wait for Jan.

CTA fares set to rise by an average of 50% with fares on the blue line set to double I'm hearing.

Combine that with the payroll tax break expiration in Jan and we have all the makings for social unrest.

Forgot to mention. Just like the pension money was stolen we have that entire electricity bill thing going down too where any savings the poor joe could of made by changing energy providers Rahm is going to latch onto instead.

Upgrade the parks mayor. We're all going to be sleeping there soon at this rate.

Let's measure the $4 million leftover in terms of shootings @ $52,000 a piece or homicides at $400,000 per investigation and prosecution. How much is left now?

Let's see...$400,000 X 10 homicides whoops there goes the $4 mil..We blow that money in just one weekend.

Or 77 shooting whoops $4 mil. gone on ER and healthcare expenses in one month.

F--k that, the people of Chicago are unwilling or unable to follow that money trail. This money is private donation money for me to spend. You pay for that s--t with your taxes, I'm building a park. HA-HA Sad dad for you!!

That money is not fungible with the taxpayers money. Oh-no.

See the TAXPAYERS pay the $1 million dollars for the Cease Fire Street Friars that haven't done a damn thing.

This money over here I get to spend how I please.

If you're a corporation I'll give you a $10 mil tax break and you give us $5 mil back and we'll have our media friends tell everyone how kind hearted and generous you are by donating this money out of your own free will. Do the math.

Don't you love how they act like the $20 mil from the fed for NATO was like a freebee and we didn't have to pay for that because it was fed money?

Where's the Fed get it's money again? Oh yeah taxes! Except that they don't have $20 mil to spend so they have to borrow it first and so our costs as taxpayers is $20 mil PLUS interest!

See you people have this entitlement attitude. No,no-no, not the political apparatus. You people made them spend that money on NATO and demanded more parks in Chicago. No wonder we're broke.

*** Speaking of manpower shortages, specifically the recent talk of the amount of officers in 016 ***

I have a copy of the 2012 CPD Budget Statement dated 27 Oct 11. When it was presented to the city council, many questions were raised by various Aldercreatures. Answers to these questions were put to paper by our St. Sabina Panderer, AKA G-Mac.

One of the questions asked was by 9th Ward Aldercreature Anthony Beale. He requested "the accurate number of police officers per violent crime by district". On 08 Nov 11 McPuppet & Co. responded with the following breakdown for 016:

"Sworn Members" = 240 *
YTD Violent Crimes = 260
Violent Crimes Per Sworn Member = 1.08
Citywide Average = 2.46

Property Crimes were also assessed, to wit:

YTD Property Crimes = 1,744
Property Crime Per Sworn Member = 7.26
Citywide Average = 6.24

* (Unsure if "Sworn Members" counts everyone above the rank of Patrolman, but I'd bet it does)

Maybe someone in 016 can provide an accurate count as to how many officers retired since last November so we have a better understanding as to how many people are currently assigned to that district. And since there have been few new hires...fewer (if any) that got sent to 016...the "240 Sworn Members" number is undoubtedly lower.

Numbers were also provided for every other district, many of which would blow the minds of taxpayers getting fleeced by the administration.

The Q & As in this budget document is also chock-full of other interesting facts, statistics and general information that will shed light on just how fucked up, ass backwards this department, city and elected officials are. Dollar amounts are listed for every facet of CPDs operating costs and the DAMNING ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE MANPOWER SHORTAGE IS PUT TO PAPER STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S (McCathy's) MOUTH. He also explains how resources are being redirected to compensate for the lower manpower numbers.

I will be happy to forward a copy of this document to SCC as soon as I can scan every page and transfer it to a PDF or similar type of file. In the meantime, can someone from 016 get a good count as to how many officers retired, transferred out, got promoted, died, etc. and get back to SCC with that information?

OT

YES!!!! NBC 5 at 6pm tonight interviewed a former IAD Commander. They asked why CPD might stop certain investigations into certain officers. The former Commander stated CPD makes these decisions based on "politics, who the person is and what their connections are." FINALLY!!! The truth about our department is finally coming to light!!!! If you have CLOUT you are untouchable!! Case in point, Big Jack Killackey formerly of 011. Robs a cab driver at gunpoint while drunk and still has a job because of his old man!!

I'm just asking an honest question. Why do think that 13.5k is the "right" amount of police officers?

Gov Quinn, Merry Christmas ---kers!

--------------------------------------

QUINN ADMINISTRATION TERMINATES UNION CONTRACT

In an unprecedented step, Governor Pat Quinn’s administration late today terminated state government’s contract with its largest employee union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31.

“In 40 years of collective bargaining, Pat Quinn is the first and only Illinois governor to terminate a union contract,” AFSCME executive director Henry Bayer said. “His actions will heighten employee frustration, provoke instability in the workplace and make settling a contract more difficult.”

AFSCME has been in negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement for nearly a year. Scheduled to expire last June 30, the previous contract’s terms had since been extended by mutual agreement of the parties. But following a bargaining session with a federal mediator in Springfield today, the Quinn administration rejected a further extension offered by the union.

Terminating the contract has little immediate practical effect, as all existing terms and conditions of employment remain in place under state law. But it signals the Quinn Administration’s lack of respect for the collective bargaining process.

“While AFSCME is committed to reaching a fair agreement, Pat Quinn seems bent on heading in the wrong direction,” AFSCME director Bayer said. “Our union wants constructive engagement but the governor is choosing confrontation instead.”

AFSCME Council 31 represents 40,000 men and women who work for the State of Illinois. AFSCME-represented state employees care for veterans and the disabled, help struggling families, protect children from abuse, maintain safe prisons and much more.

simple answer 'ol timer. because this poster obviuosly came on the job in 2000 when we were at that number- give or take , so they are not aware of the actual number of officers we had before this " number" was put out there and not aware of the fact that at that time were were running short already . the department has gone through a starvation style diet ( although not by choice) over the last decade and like we always hear that this form of dieting is not healthy, we are now now experiencing the side effects of such dieting-- grave

that empty lot of a park that their pouring $50 mil into to do what exactly? would have made a significant dent into our pension + the forgotten fact that the fop board of nolan and company who allowed (forgave) the city of $20 mil just to give us 70% at 29years and a day !! all in all this would have only left 22 million if you didn't account for the forgiveness the city swindled from us without the membership knowing at that time.
you know we will continue to get screwed !!! a friend of mine retired from the state police recently with 25 years on and they're gonna collect 79% ... and they will /still have a long life ahead because they didn't have to put up with the shit we have to and we have to put in 9 more years + one day just to get a measley 70% of what is looking like no money. i'll be working til i'm in my 70's !!!

Will the media ask Rahm why he won't use any money to help the pension that was guaranteed to us upon employment? Rahm talks about the pension problem all the time, but he won't do his part to fix it, just a little. Ask Rahm how he plans to fix the problem if he won't do anything on his end to fix it. We put our money in every two weeks, but the politicians squandered the money, spent it and invested it elsewhere. Remember the government uses "the pension" to attract people to work for them. This was part of the employment agreement.

It won't be a lot of money upon retirement, but it was told to us that "if you work for us and contribute to the pension, you will get it." They can't change the rules in the middle of the game just because THEY SCREWED IT UP. Put the money into the pension Rahm!

The work on Millenium Park was shoddy and the REAL reason for Maggie Park is the Grant Park garage is leaking badly and caving in. It has to be rebuilt, so Rahm is hiding the substandard work by Daley's connected buddies by 'building' a 'new' park.
